The Animal Bytes project at the Museum of Zoology is capturing stories of the Museum and responses to its collections from staff and visitors of all kinds.

To coincide with the opening of the Dickens and London exhibition, the Museum of London has launched a new iPhone and iPad app which takes users on a journey through the darker side of Charles Dickens' London.

Following on from the success of award-winning app Streetmuseum™, the Museum of London has joined forces with AETN UK's flagship channel HISTORY™ to develop a new app which gives users the opportunity to see Roman London as it was 2,000 years ago

Das neue Langzeitprojekt von Mats Staub ist eine Einladung an dich, diese Fragen zu beantworten. Es beginnt 2013 mit zwei ineinandergreifenden Formaten: Als web-basierte Sammlung und als Kunst-plakat-Aktion - beide Formate wollen die Besucherinnen und Besucher dazu anregen, selber zur Sammlung wichtigster Ereignisse beizutragen.

Die digitale 3D-Rekonstruktion von Kulturdenkmälern ist eine längerfristige Projektinitiative der FHNW zum Aufbau eines interaktiven, digitalen 3D-Archivs von kulturhistorisch wertvollen Bauten und Objekten. Bei der Erstellung dieser virtuellen 3D-Modelle werden moderne geodätische Mess- und Auswerteverfahren eingesetzt und laufend weiter entwickelt. 3D Cultural Heritage erlaubt den Einbezug von Studierenden und ermöglicht diesen die intensive Auseinandersetzung mit kulturhistorisch wertvollen Objekten. Ausgehend von der Nordwestschweiz soll der regionale Schwerpunkt zukünftig auf die ganze Schweiz und das grenznahe Ausland ausgedehnt werden. Mit der Weiterentwicklung web-basierter 3D-Geoinformationstechnologien sollen die virtuellen Objekte aus dem Projekt schon bald der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht werden.

Launched in March 2010, Object Stories invites visitors to record their own narratives about personal objects-whether a piece of clothing, a cherished record album, or a family heirloom.  By capturing, honoring, and sharing participants' stories, this project aims to demystify the Museum, making it more accessible, welcoming, and meaningful to a greater diversity of communities - while continuing to highlight the inherent relationship between people and things.  Nearly one thousand people from throughout Portland-most of who had never before set foot in the Museum-have participated as storytellers in this project.

This year MuseumNext will focus on 'What's Next' and will use this call for papers to create a programme that is structured around eight key themes. These will be directed by the proposals submitted from our community to highlight the direction in which museums and technology are heading.

Tagung in Kooperation mit der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Institut für Musikwissenschaft und Medienwissenschaft, Fachgebiet Medienwissenschaft  Im Rahmen einer internationalen Tagung wenden wir uns den netzbedingten Veränderungen musealer Speicher und archivischer Dispositive zu. Sich zunehmend ins Digitale verlagernde Kulturtechniken bedingen Veränderungen der institutionellen Archiv-Verständnisse und damit des Aufbaus und der Nutzung analoger wie digitaler Sammlungsrepräsentationen. Wir fragen, welche Rückwirkungen dieser Wandel auf museale und kulturwissenschaftliche Objektbegriffe (auch technischer Medien) sowie auf künftige kuratorische und wissenschaftliche Tätigkeitsfelder erwarten lässt. Werden die Begriffe Original und Museum mit dem Einzug digitaler Archive und netzbasierter Speicher möglicherweise neu zu definieren sein? Und: Welche Probleme der Re-Präsentation bleiben gegenüber traditionellen Formen der Speicherung und Ordnung bestehen und welche kommen künftig hinzu?

3DVisA was funded between 2006 and 2008 by the UK Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC). The Network was hosted by King's Visualisation Lab in the Centre for Computing in the Humanities at King's College London. It was an integral part of a wider UK Visualisation Support Network, VizNET, spanning the UK academic research community. This website documents some of 3DVisA activities and provides access to publications and resources created in 2006-2008, some of which continue to be maintained by King's Visualisation Lab. 3DVisA was also the Secretariat of The London Charter for the use of three-dimensional Visualisation in the Research and Communication of Cultural Heritage.

Digital technology has the potential to influence every aspect of the cultural heritage environment. Archaeologists and cultural heritage scientists as well as Information and Communication Technology (ICT) experts have in the past collaborated to find solutions to optimise all aspects of capturing, managing, analysing and delivering cultural information, but many unsolved problems remain. The goal of VAST 2012 will be to build on the open dialogue between these different areas of expertise, and in particular allow ICT experts to have a better understanding of the critical requirements that cultural heritage professionals have for managing and delivering cultural information and for the ICT systems that support these activities.

Wie im Film konnten sich nach der Premiere auch rund 30 Autoblogger aus ganz Deutschland fühlen: sie verbrachten die Nacht im Mercedes-Museum. "Nachts im Museum 2.0" hatten die Veranstalter das Experiment genannt. Und wie im Film aus dem Jahr 2006 gab es dabei ziemlich ungewöhnliche Erlebnisse.

Hallo! Ich bin Felicitas Pommerening, die Autorin von "Weiblich, jung, flexibel".  Vom 30.07. bis 08.08 gehe ich auf Blog Tour! Das heißt: Ich werde 10 Tage lang jeden Tag auf einem andern Blog sein und über mich und mein Buch sprechen.  

The Frontlines aims to combine the 40,000 organizations that support veterans into one network of veterans, active duty, military families and citizens together to overcome the obstacles vets typically face. The Frontlines is a network for armed forces, veterans and citizens to provide 400,000 filtered resources, education and the ability to share their stories. The site is used also used for mentorship to aid in gainful employment, supporting wounded veterans and success during the transition from the military.

Schade! Ich konnte krankheitsbedingt nicht nach Frankfurt fahren. Und wäre doch so gerne dabei gewesen! Doch dank des Social Web konnte ich einen Großteil des tollen Bloggertreffens miterleben, zu dem die SCHIRN nach Frankfurt geladen hatte. Alles in Allem scheint das eine ganz großartige Veranstaltung gewesen zu sein. This conference focuses on the interaction between museums and communities. In times of mobility and change, history museums play an important role in societal questions of social cohesion, identity and belonging. In search of their roots, people turn to heritage. History is popular as never before and it surfaces in all contemporary media. At the same time, the communication era offers new possibilities to form communities, based on common interests and preferences or popular and corporate culture. Museums in general, as part of the public sphere, are an important tool in this dynamic process of heritage formation and the performance of community.
