Interactive Radio: Exploring Visitors Stories using a Radio Interface: - 1 views

  •
Interactive Radio: Exploring Visitors Stories using a Radio Interface: << ROOM OF OPINION>> Retracing the past: exploring objects, stories, mysteries (June 2003) was an exhibition held in the Hunt Museum The Hunt Museum and the Interaction Design Centre of The University of Limerick, in Ireland, jointly developed this exhibition. At that exhibition there was a Room of pinion where visitiors coul leave a message about the nature and possible use of some mysterious objects. Comments were collected, and visitors could listen to them in rel time through a radio in the Sudy room. The sound of earlier opinions also generated a sort of murmur that was heard in the same room. Comments were made using an interactive telephone. A visual analogue of the prcess of storing the comments could be seen in a dynamic graühic display representing a visual trace of these opinions. Visitors could see and listen to their own comments recorded. (hier zitiert nach Salgado, ., Breaking Apart Participation in Museums, S. 3f)

Here Is New York - 1 views

  •
HERE IS NEW YORK is not a conventional gallery show. It is something new, a show tailored to the nature of the event, and to the response it has elicited. The exhibition is subtitled "A Democracy of Photographs" because anyone and everyone who has taken pictures relating to the tragedy was invited to submit their images to the gallery, where they were digitally scanned, printed and displayed on the walls alongside the work of top photojournalists and other professional photographers.

I don't mean to belittle the successes that my fellow museum educators have achieved in advocating for the public dimension over the years. But, as one colleague put it when I discussed this blog with her - "[museum educators] have changed the identity of museums, but perhaps have not gained power."  Without this power, in my view, advocates of the public dimension have had and will continue to have great difficulty in fundamentally transforming their institutions. And most of our museums, exhibitions  and programs will continue to look and operate pretty much the same as they always have.

The UNAM's cultural heritage is, as in many other universities, a vast number of different kinds of objects, ranging from painting and sculpture to numismatics and architecture, from traditional art to modern multimedia-based exhibits to Scientific Collections. It is impossible to exhibit it all in a single place in an orderly fashion." http://www.archimuse.com/mw2008/abstracts/prg_335001856.html

Culture Popped: Towards which paths can pop culture of digital media lead museums? - Mu... - 0 views

  •
Success with digital media for museums, education and cultural organisations isn't about scrambling to sign up to the latest fads, those teasmades of technology, and more about attitudes of organisations and the individuals within them. What are the handles we can grab hold of to begin or better develop our journeys into digital media use in the world of exhibition, performances or engagement of new audiences? It tries to make a few points, some more successfully than others, no doubt. Key amongst them:- how to institutions do better what is now so easy for everyman to do?- is there anything to be learned from the world of startups where coming up with a compelling problem that needs solved? What are the problems museums manage to solve? Do they need to think in that way at all?- what potential is there for cultural organisations to open themselves up to new audiences by tackling the same content and ideas in alternative ways and on different platforms?

Museum 2.0: Can You Make A/B Testing Part of Your Practice? - 0 views

But the simplest evidence I have for the statement that design impacts visitor contributions comes from a formative evaluation performed at LACMALab for their nano exhibition in 2004. In the report, evaluator Marianna Adams described a simple experiment in visitor response. LACMALab took one question--"What connections do you see between art and science?"--and created two ways for visitors to respond. In March, visitors were offered white 4"x6" notecards and golf pencils. In April, these were replaced with blue hexagonal cards and full-size pencils.

How Tech Is Changing the Museum Experience - 2 views

  •
Museums are exploring digital and mobile technologies to enhance visitor experience. Initiatives go beyond technology within exhibits and installations, but also include more pervasive uses of tech to create interactive experiences for visitors throughout a museum, as well as remote experiences for those who cannot get there.

  •
How do you design physical infrastructure that ties individuals together in meaningful ways? 1. How do we let people personalize their identity in the museum such that they feel less like strangers and more like potential associates? 2. How do we design spaces that support sharing and intimacy among associated visitors?

Collection X - 0 views

  •
On April 25, 2007 the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto launched a new online initiative called Collection X "This project, which has been in development for six years, represents a huge leap forward for the AGO not only because it makes works from the permanent collection available online but also because it makes it possible for the public to upload their own collections and to create exhibitions using the same application. As it has been conceived, Collection X is meant to function as an open-source museum that features public collections presented alongside collections created by the public." (museumsremixed.blogspot)
