10 Sustainability Initiatives Being Embraced by Hotels - 2 views

  • Many hotels, from the budget-friendly to the luxurious, are taking steps to make their practices more sustainable.
  • Whether in central operations such as boilers, or with lighting systems, kitchen equipment, and automated energy management systems, hotels globally are working to reduce energy use while sustaining—and, whenever possible, enhancing—the guest experience.
  • Efforts range from the linen and towel reuse programs that are now an industry standard to the installation of low-flow faucets, showerheads, and other fixtures.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • In support of waste reduction and a higher-quality experience, many hotels are moving away from bottled water as the standard and offering unique hydration options for meeting attendees and independent travelers
  • From property-wide initiatives to guest rooms, food and beverage, or spas, event planners should be asking their hotels about what specific efforts are being made to be more sustainable.
  •
It's important to build sustainability facility in the hotel. It's a future trend to build a green hotel and sustain the eco-friendly environment. There are many ways to do physical plants. Water consumption Within guest rooms, laundries, kitchens, pools, and spas, hotels continue to phase inefficiencies that reduce water and, in many cases, chemicals that are used to treat water systems and clean facilities. Efforts include the linen and towel reuse programs that are now an industry standard to the installation of low-flow faucets, showerheads, and other fixtures. Hotel Recycling and Waste Reduction With the limited exception for domestic hotels, recycling programs for the basics such as newspapers and beverage containers are becoming a basic expectation. In combination with the recycling efforts, hotels are looking for opportunities to reduce the use of paper and other disposables. Hotels and resorts that can go beyond to implement food waste composting programs can demonstrate waste diverted from the landfill upwards of 40-50%. Hotel Bath Amenities Many hotels are making a statement by offering guests custom formulated amenities. Resort companies such as RockResorts have taken it one step further with an all-natural, essential oil-based custom formulated product made without preservatives and artificial ingredients that are packaged in recyclable containers. Other midrange hotel brands are experimenting with bulk dispenser presentations.
  •
This article discusses that as time continues to progress, more and more hotels, as well as other hospitality/tourism places are starting to implement more "eco-friendly initiatives" into their businesses for the satisfaction of the customers. It is important for the hospitality to be able to adapt in the sense of increasing their "green initiatives." Some hotels have begun doing so by, linen and towel reuse programs, low-flow faucets and shower heads, recycling programs, and much more. Implementing these actions can only benefit the industry/businesses in the long run.
  •
This is a great summary of what event planners are looking for in hotels - "Green Initiatives" that include energy use, water bottle reduction, menu planning, waste management, recycle programs, etc. Very easy to read and recommend for green topic areas for research papers.

  • many of our clients spent up to 70% of their meetings and events budget on small meetings
  • aking the search and booking process simple and efficient for meeting organizers
  • The standard version of the platform, which is ideal for one-off meetings, is free for any meeting organizer to use and allows planners to easily search, compare and instantly book meetings.
  • Preferred venues and partners can be highlighted within the tool and made to appear at the top of the search results.
  • a customizable option for large companies looking to automate their meeting booking processes
  •
CWT M&E has created a new website platform to help hotels and other venues streamline the process of booking meetings and small venue events. This is a helpful tool for meeting planners who are able to access over 250,000 meeting rooms easily and be able to book and modify any meeting room reservations directly through this website, instead of going through a variety of different channels in the past. The reason why this website was developed goes to show the first kind of solution for small meeting bookings which represented over 70% of client's budget before the pandemic. My take on this is that once pandemic restrictions are lifted, there is going to be a huge surge in demand for these meeting spaces so it will be crucial for hotel properties to be able to list their availability on this website which would be reducing any additional costs that go into booking meetings.

4 Options for Meetings & Events in the Wake of Coronavirus - 0 views

  •
COVID-19 has affected the way in which we interact with one another. Although it is uncertain as to when we can begin to have planned events, there are four options this article suggests to have meetings and event. These options are to go on with the show (with some changes), take your in-person event online, postpone your event, or cancel your event. -Planners must consider the crowd density, venue layout, the number of participants, and the age of attendees when making critical safety decisions. -Communication is key in virtual events - changes should be communicated with attendees, speakers, exhibitors and other stakeholders. Address their concerns. -Encourage your speakers to spruce up their presentations to make them more interactive in virtual meetings. -Postponing your event allows Planners to continue to sell tickets and build hype around the event, and thus is less costly than outright canceling your event. -If you postpone the event you may see a decrease in event attendance (keep in mind costs) and you may have difficulty keeping the same venue/time. -Event cancellation insurance is insurance that protects event expenses and revenues against the risk of unforeseen circumstances beyond the planner's control and generally includes, cancellation, relocation, postponement, or abandonment.

Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality can make the attendee feel like they are in the middle of the event while actually being far away. Facial recognition software allows for streamlining check-in, but also allows for entry to be contactless. As most events have become virtual, livestreaming is very important to bring the event into the living room of those that cannot physically attend. Event apps are becoming more and more popular in that they bring all of the event information right onto an attendee's smartphone and allows them to customize their experience. Attendees can participate from far and wide, so having the information be translated into their language increases their accessibility and inclusion. Artificial intelligence collects user data and turns it into personalized recommendations for their event experience. Games brought into an event increases audience engagement and allows for team building and friendly competition. Event planners have project management software available to them to help streamline their planning and saves them time and money by not having to manually do certain tasks.

Almost everyone has a smart phone now and days. Apps are used for almost anything and this article gives evidence to how much you can do with an app. The article focuses on Las Vegas and how many hotels have different apps for every occasion. Vegas Mate caught my attention from how it has things such as "a listing of resort fees, top suites, information for travelers on getting around, conventions, gambling and more" that other Vegas apps don't have. I believe it takes great time and money for these companies to keep up with the ever changing schedules for each hotel. I'm a planner and I was really intrigued on how this certain app pulls up the latest update and weather from around the city and even "keep all those show tickets, dinner reservations and hotel bookings in order." I mean who can beat that? There's no excuse to why hotels and many other tourism spots don't have an app for all the amenities that are offered. It'll surprise guests and make them really pleased with their stay.

This article discusses a program called Tripleseat that was created in 2008 as a way to better organize sales and even planning within the hospitality industry. The program is a cloud-based software that provides a competitive edge that event managers need. The founders of the software said that the idea came when he realized that Event sales managers were still using paper and pens to organize their events. He said that event planners were losing sales by not having a simple organized system to track their events. The point of Tripleseat is to provide a fast yet simple to learn program that allows event sales managers to easily book and plan any sort of event no matter the size. It keeps track of little details as well as past client information, there is less paperwork, and managers are able to focus on sales. Since this is a web application it can easily be integrated with other websites as well as social media. It is a sophisticated event planning system, but is also offered at a manageable cost. This type of system sounds like a great system to use. I only wonder if it is able to interface with a property management system of a hotel? Especially one that isn't cloud-based.

Airport Hotel Gets Tech Renovations for Event Space - 1 views

The Atlanta Airport Marriott just completed event space renovations that will enable event planners to host any size party/ meeting with the most updated technology. The Georgia hotel features 28,300 square feet of event space, including two ballrooms and 27 breakout rooms. The hotels lobby features a complex monitoring system for flight tracking information and departures by Delta Airlines. Touch screen kiosks have also been installed at concierge stands that will allow planners and people attending events to search for nearby restaurants and attractions. Additionally, the most recent renovation included in the installation of multi-use TV screens in the rooms. The screens allow guests to hook up iPods and other music devices. Guests may also use the new TV's as computer monitors. This connectivity is becoming more common in event spaces and visitor centers. I personally know that similar technology was recently installed in New York City's Central Park. Touch monitors enable park visitors to navigate their way around more efficiently. Additionally, tour guides have been equipped with handheld devices to track visitor usage and access information quickly.

How Wearable Technology Is Transforming Event Management - 0 views

  • Many event planners continue to rely on older methods such as in-person registration and surveys to monitor attendance and gather feedback from guests, limiting their insight into the real-time status of events.
  • According to IDC’s latest forecast, the wearables market is expected to grow by 8.2 percent throughout 2018, escalating to double-digit growth in 2019 and beyond — and smartwatches are leading the charge.
  • Wearables offer an unprecedented balance of digital access and personal contact, because they can deliver quick nuggets of must-have info in a controlled environment, instead of sending guests to their phones — which incur all sorts of distractions from the event.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Secure access: Wearables can also be programmed to act as electronic door locks for more secure access to hotel rooms. Guests no longer have to dig through their pockets to locate a key card.
  • Attendance: Event organizers can gain precise info not only on the number of people attending sessions and activities at an event, but who they are: VPs, women aged 18-35, or any other demographic collected at registration.
  • Concierge/VIP: Event organizers can deliver enhanced VIP treatment by tracking honored guests’ movements and greeting them with everything they need, wherever they go in the event space.
  •
Events and event planners can use wearable technology like smart watches to maximize the experience of the attendees as well as gather data. One use for wearable technology at events would be secure transactions. This would allow guests to update their payment credentials and use their band for easy payment. Hilton used a wearable device at their Hilton America' Leadership Conference and saw great success.

This was a very interesting article, it discussed how virtual reality and augmented reality are reshaping the event industry. Many high end brands are using it in their events to immerse the attendees. Additionally it is being used pre-event by both the attendee and organizer. The attendee can use it to pick their seats at a show and the organizer can use it to inspect a remote location without having to physically be there. I believe in the next few years we will see more events take advantage of VR & AR technology.
