SocialTables, A Collaborative Event-Planning Service, Raises $8 Million Series A | Tech... - 0 views

  • SocialTables now has 2,500 customers and 30,000 users. Two-thirds of those are venue owners including the Hyatt Hotel Corporation and Caesar’s Entertainment, and one-third are party planners.
  • “SocialTables is a hospitality SaaS company,”
  •
SocialTables is one of the latest and most successful hospitality start-ups. It is essentially a hospitality SaaS. It was founded by Dan Berger, an event-planner turned programmer. Founded in 2012 and based in Washington D.C., one of the premier corporate hospitality locations in the US, the start-up has recently raised $8 million in Series A funding. The round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners, and followed by Thayer Ventures. This funding adds to the previous $1.6 million the company raised, which helped them streamline their event planning tools. According to its website, SocialTables is a cloud-based solution that offers event diagramming, seating, and check-in tools for event planners. The software can make room layouts that event planners can use to show clients, compose detailed seating charts and arrangements, and it offers a fast check-in app. All of this is done on a colorful, intuitive, cloud-based site with mobile integration. In two years, SocialTables has grown considerably. It has over 2,500 customers and 30,000 users. Additionally, two-thirds of its customer base is actually composed of venue-owners, including major corporations like Hyatt Hotels and Caesar's Entertainment. Academic institutions like Harvard Business School and The Ohio State University also subscribe to SocialTables. Additionally, one-third of its customers are private party planners. SocialTables is becoming an affordable, customizable, tech-progressive solution for event planners of all levels. Industry leaders like Hyatt and Caesar's already subscribe to its services. In the future, I think that the start-up should focus on increasing its ability to provide affordable and capable solutions for private event planners, particularly in the wedding category. While that is an extremely competitive and saturated market, SocialTables could provide an industry-leading software solution and use its credibility to entice private planners into its cloud-based ecosystem.

Technology Innovation (and Other Trends) in the Hotel Events Space Shaping 2020 | - 0 views

  •
(1 of 3) This Hotel Technology News article discusses the various technology advancements in Hotel Event Planning and what their effects were predicted to be for 2020. As the article states, "With each passing year, events seem to get bigger and better, boasting exciting new technology, catering to attendees' needs in finer detail, and bringing guests together in unique venue spaces for a variety of occasions." The event industry continues to grow as people continue to desire more unique, memorable experiences. Event planners struggle with advancing their experiences, but with the help of technology they are able to continue to grow each year. This process starts with the booking experience and Venue Management Technology has gained popularity in creating seamless booking experiences. "Whether marketing to a transient guest, event attendees, or a corporate group, hoteliers and Event planners are in the business of meeting and exceeding expectations." With venue management technology, Event planners are able to make memorable experiences starting with the booking of the venue all the way until days after the event. Venue management platforms provide everything to the Event planners at their fingertips.
  •
(2 of 3) The article continues on to discuss that while large events are extremely lucrative, venues must make sure to consider smaller events as well. "Ensure your venue space is equipped for events and meetings of various scale, and work closely with planners to ensure an attentive, personalized experience while bringing their event or meeting to life." Meetings are going to continue to grow so venues must continue to adjust and be equipped for anything a consumer might desire. This may include non-traditional events or venue spaces as well. While classic hotel convention spaces may not be as popular anymore, hotels are challenged to utilize and market their space differently to attract new consumers. With the event industry, as with any segment in hospitality, the ultimate purpose is to leave lasting impressions on guests. In recent years, the use of technology has been great in assisting this idea. Venues who have mastered creating a memorable experience have often done so by "using new-age features and platforms to create a frictionless event, engage attendees on a deeper level, and create meaningful, memorable experiences." Venue management tools are also used in making these experiences for guests. The article left readers with three takeaways. The first being that venues need to utilize technology to make them more effective in areas such as RFP response and the way that they offer their services. The second takeaway is that businesses need to evaluate their current technology partners and make sure to choose a partner that will allow them to best create memorable events. The final key takeaway is that venues must increase conversions and improve venue listings with things such as real-time availability and strategic pricing.

(3 of 3) This article was very interesting in its description of the technology used in the event industry and predictions for the future of events. It is quite apparent that this article was written at the beginning of 2020, though. I do believe the event industry was headed in this direction, but, as with the rest of the hospitality industry, I believe events will see a massive decrease over the next few years and then pick back up in the future. Due to the risks associated with Covid-19, consumers are not finding in-person meetings or events necessary. Many organizations have resorted to digital meetings and cancelled any events, causing a huge loss for the industry. I believe that as the rest of the industry recovers, events will slowly follow and eventually make their way back to their pre-pandemic predictions.

Technologies Being Used In The Event Planning Industry - 2 views

  • With the advent of technology, the event planning and management has seen enormous shifts over the past two decades. As technology continues to automate monotonous time-consuming work and connect the world like never before, many event planners are scrambling to keep up by incorporating the latest and greatest technology into their events.
  • Digital administration is now key when planning a new meeting. For large events, it’s not enough to just sell a ticket online, print them an agenda, and check IDs at the door.
  • Without a tool like this, it would require constantly manually inputting and changing spreadsheets which have no contact with the outside world.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Events and their breakouts are built in advance. All details are added including guidelines for which attendees can register or which session, audiovisual equipment needed in the space, rehearsal times, BEOs, and etc.
  • If you are not utilizing the smart phone every attendee has in their pocket at your event, you are missing out on a great opportunity and even neglecting attendee expectations.
  • They want to see their unique schedule, read event descriptions, find session locations on a map, and engage with other attendees.
  •
Technology has taken event planning to the next level. Within the past five years digital administration and mobile engagement are considered to be the two primary causes for change in the events industry. In an article written for Sonburst Communication it states "Digital administration is now key when planning a new meeting. For large events, it's not enough to just sell a ticket online, print them an agenda, and check IDs at the door". Attendees now fall into different categories that may require different forms of check-ins for example someone on the VIP list may receive a gift bag and private cocktail party or someone with special dietary needs once checked in the system notifies the catering term of their confirmed arrival. Digital administration has made it easier for event planners to manage these different kinds of request quickly and on a digital platform. The digital platform is generally tailored for each event before the event. Everything in pre-loaded to the system for example, registration, BEO, event time line, seating chart and set-up and break-down. "If you are not utilizing the smart phone every attendee has in their pocket at your event, you are missing out on a great opportunity and even neglecting attendee expectations." Today's generation is expecting to have the event information available to them at their finger tip. Mobile engagement allows event planners to give them just that weather through email, website, or event app. This also allows event planners to notify guests of any last-minute changes. For example, a change in event time line. Everyone is going digital and most people send more than half the time while at an event on their phones so why not make this information available to them.

  • The application is sent to the event planner by the host hotel three days prior to an event to make any last minute changes
  • The new endeavor offered a large amount of Ritz-Carlton bonus reward points when consumers book a meeting, event or conference at any of the hotel properties
  •
In keeping up to its standard of maintaining high customer service, the Ritz Carlton has a new idea to do just that. As we know with a hotel, there are many hands on the assembly belt to make the hotel run smoothly. Since the guest experience is their main priority, they don't want to leave anyone excluded. So the company has released an app, ((CHIME)), to assist event planners during their event. Sent to the planner three days prior to the event, the Event planner is able to make any changes necessary. On the day of, if something was to malfunction or hotel assistance was needed, instead of the planner panicking, they are able to use ((CHIME)) to get what they need done. Whether it has to do with food & beverage, audio / visuals, seating arrangements, or room relocation, within minutes the event planner can have a request put in and a hotel employee will be there to fix the issue. Just another way of keep guests returning and to ensure a successful event.

For an Excellent Attendee Experience, Event pros Need to Embrace Event Technologies | M... - 1 views

  • Gone are the days when event planners conducted venue research offline, manually updated registration numbers in spreadsheets, and relied on post-event surveys to measure success.
  • Not only does it empower event planners to be more effective and efficient, it’s also redefining the attendee experience.
  • To achieve this goal, event marketers rely on communicating relevant content to prospects and registered attendees to pique or maintain their interest.

  • A mobile device, more specifically an event app, can act as an information hub for all things related to the event, including agenda updates, session breakouts, news, and promotions. It can also be used to encourage attendee engagement through proprietary content, peer networking requests, social sharing, and more.
  • registration and onsite check-in go hand in hand. If planners don’t use an effective registration tool with robust data management software, it stands to reason they probably won’t have a smooth check-in process either .
  • Using event management software that has email marketing integrated with prospect and attendee lists, as well as an event app, will give an event marketer an advantage.
  • Start small by selecting one or two metrics, such as technology and its relationship with attendee satisfaction, to track throughout the event’s lifecycle.
  • Evaluate and diagnose the areas where technology can drive improved attendee satisfaction and engagement.
  •
I found this article very interesting, as it touched upon certain pros for events to embrace event technologies, such as event registration software. As mentioned in the article, nowadays, nothing is done manually. Therefore, updating registration spreadsheets, or surveys manually just slows down any process. Additionally, if planners do not plan for a good registration tool, or process, they will definitely not have a smooth check-in process. With technology softwares, like event registration, allows for event planners to have a more efficient experience, as well as, for the attendees. Moreover, these softwares even allow for word of mouth, through social network sharing; giving a greater advantage for attendee show up. Overall, with technology softwares events can run much smoother, and also, allow for tracking of attendee satisfaction, in order to find any improvements for future events. Depending on the event, an event software can surely be a win-win for both the planners and the attendees.

  • As the process that kicks off the trajectory of your entire event, registration should be intelligently designed and executed.
  •
This article highlights the importance of event registration stage. According to the survey, registration produces up to 48% of total event revenue. Thus, it is crucial for the event planners to make this stage easy and effective. As internet gives an opportunity to easily submit registration information online the event planners need to make sure that they make the whole process simple and convenient. First, mobile integration is very important. Since more and more people access internet from their smartphones and tablets rather than from their desktops, a great attention should be paid to the mobile compatibility of the service. The prefilled fields could be automatically offered to save registrants' time. Mobile integration could also imply automatic check-in with RFID badges at a conference or surveys that are pushed to the attendees' phones after they are checked in. To increase registration numbers some easy steps could be undertaken. The form could contain easy links to share the event on social media. The "no" registrants may be offered "regret surveys" and asked to reference those who might be interested to attend. Electronic event registration provides the event planners with plenty of structured personal information. It could be used for personalization and customization of services and further engagement of the attendees. So in my opinion, event registration software gives the event planners a powerful tool to engage the people coming to the event and make their experience unique by the means of customization and personalization. It also helps to keep the track of all registrants for further marketing.

The article discusses seven event technology trends that are trending in 2018. Event planners are on the hunt to discover the next new products or services that will help them stand out in a coward full of competitors. One trend, that I find so interesting is facial recognition technology. Event planners are using algorithms to reach out to new audiences via social media, improve check-in and security! Another trend, that caught my eye was artificial intelligence for events. Technology such as "chatbots." Chatbot is an automated customer service that helps both guests and event organizers. It will alleviate some of the duties of the staff to be more efficient and address guest issues faster. There are also the right APPs that are being created for events for guest to search, book, post and review events in one place. Also for event organizers to price, communicate and organize all in one place.

So, being an event professional in the hospitality industry this article intrigued me. Some of the trends listed are trends that my clients and I have already been using for a few years now like livestreaming events, I had a wedding in Jamaica in 2015 in which my clients live-streamed their nuptials for those daily and friends who could not make the trip. What I did find intriguing was the Facial Recognition aspect of Event Technology. That is unbelievable to me. I know we now have iPhoneXs and SnapChat that already do this so I guess its just a matter of having the right type of phone and app that is compatible with this feature.

This article for event planning and technology shared the current trends of event technology for this year. Facial recognition is becoming popular and is encouraged to use to target an expansive audience. Some events encourage audiences to take advantage of technology by using Facebook to tag photos of the event attendees to to a personalized album. The article also predicts that the future holds facial recognition for attendees checking in for a further improved event. RFID is being widely used by experienced event coordinators in place of event tickets and to reduce payments made physically. With the usage of RFID, it enhances the productivity for the attendees, as well as, make special features, such as raffles, much easier and fun to conduct. Automated customer service features are also rising as it enables guests to conveniently have their questions answered without having to wait to get a response. For example, according to the article, Sound on Sound Fest is a festival for music lovers that created a customer service feature via Facebook Messenger to answer any questions from the potential and prospective attendees. It was said to have instant gratification and success in the ease of asking and answering questions. Apps are also taking a part in events. Apps, such as, Pathable (connect with attendees throughout entire event), Presdo (takes into consideration behavior of attendees), and attendify (share photos, messages, and comments with attendees) are example of applications that events benefit from in this growing trend of event technology. Broadcasting events also assist in gaining popularity for an event and social media walls encourage attendees to post photos of the event with hashtags. Technology is growing and gaining popularity in events. Due to the fact that people are almost never without their cellphones, nevertheless, on their cellphones, the discussed features are popular amongst event attendees and aids in bubbling the posit

Typically, a hotel that offers meeting spaces can integrate an RFP request into their sites allowing easy access to event planners interested in the hotel. When an event planner submits for an RFP, the hotel has a responsibility to answer in a timely, personalized manner in order to attract the planner. If a hotel has meeting space they would like to sell for business, they should definitely consider a software that allows them to answer RFP's in real time. This article discusses a program called Tripleseat that was created in 2008 as a way to better organize sales and even planning within the hospitality industry. The program is a cloud-based software that provides a competitive edge that event managers need. The founders of the software said that the idea came when he realized that Event sales managers were still using paper and pens to organize their events. He said that event planners were losing sales by not having a simple organized system to track their events. The point of Tripleseat is to provide a fast yet simple to learn program that allows event sales managers to easily book and plan any sort of event no matter the size. It keeps track of little details as well as past client information, there is less paperwork, and managers are able to focus on sales. Since this is a web application it can easily be integrated with other websites as well as social media. It is a sophisticated event planning system, but is also offered at a manageable cost. This type of system sounds like a great system to use. I only wonder if it is able to interface with a property management system of a hotel? Especially one that isn't cloud-based.
