I used it specifically for definitions such as mental structures and schemes, but it is useful for understanding every aspect of the theory. How This Influenced My Thinking: This enhanced my understanding of piagets theory and gave me good examples to relate the theory to. Credibility of Source: it is an online textbook, which has been analyzed and published so I think it is pretty reliable.

How This Influenced My Thinking: Makes the idea of ZPD and scaffolding very clear in my mind and reinforced the importance of this idea. How This Influenced My Thinking: This has made me agree that each child should definitely be treated differently and that each child has a different response and parents can not respond the same way to each child and expect that each child will respond the same. Author: TVO Parents Date Published: October 8 2009 Why relevant and summary: Great information about ADHD and interviews of people with ADHD How this influenced my thinking: I have never been "officially" diagnosed with ADHD but I have always struggled with attention, organization and time management. This resource gave me some great information on finding other resources available. Credibility of source: Very credible resource. Cites other sources and experts who contributed to the show.

It gives examples of how a parent should praise, encourage, and reward their children. I also like this website because it included videos and demonstrations of what a parent could do while raising their toddlers. How This Influenced My Thinking: This reinforces my understanding of how much attention toddlers need from their parents during their development in order to increase their own development. Credibility of Source: I browsed the whole website and all information seems accurate and it has a lot of good examples and ideas.

Title: Suicidal Thoughts More Common in Kids With Autism: Study Date: 3/21/2013 Author: Amy Norton Why relevant and summary: This article reports on the findings of a scientific study published on the "Research in Autism Spectrum disorders" journal, that children on the spectrum have a higher chance of contemplating or thinking about suicide than their typical peers. This is especially pronounced in those families where the mothers are depressed as well and bulling happens in school. The author reports on both sides which support and are against such findings. How has this changed my thinking: As a mother of a child on the spectrum I am really concerned and interested in finding out how this disorder will affect him, as he grows and what can i do to help. Why relevant and summary: This article was an extract from a book called "Bullying - What Adults Need to Know and Do to Keep Kids Safe", which gives advice on how to handle bullying and how to help young children who are subject to it. It gives 8 tips that anyone who works with children can find useful. It stresses the idea that this is a phenomena that unfortunately exists in our schools, but it is preventable. We should educate ourselves and our kids and empower them to face challenges with confidence. How has this influenced my thinking: I am a mother of two young boys, and even though we have not experienced any bullying, is good to know as much as possible that in any event I can help my boys deal with this challenge. Kidpower is a non profit organization which advocates and helps kids against abuse, kidnapping, bullying etc nation wide and internationally.

Most parents dont discuss sex topics and their children are already gaining sexual experience without safe background knowledge. How This Influenced My Thinking: i knew sex was always an awkward topic, but when i was young my dad explained to me what it was, and discussed puberty with me and it was normal and not odd. as i grew into adolescence it became wierd to talk to my parents. this just showed me that parents can find it difficult to the point where they ignore the issue and dont bother discussing it. For those who study abroad gives them a great advantage to thrive and not feel outcasted and socially neglected. It talks about the basic respect that partners need to show each other. It says that a happy marriage means respecting your spouse. It also discusses healthy ways to resolve conflicts step by step with a spouse. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article made a great point - that true compatibility doesn't exist, so shrug off the little stuff. It says that irreconcilable differences are normal and we shouldn't try to resolve or unresolve but rather come to terms with them and except the differences between you and your partner. I often feel that if you are unhappy because of disagreements that will never be resolved -then you should leave. But the point that we should just except these disagreements and cherish the stronger aspects of a relationship has changed my thinking on this. For example, Dowling says, "go to bed angry if you want to" because you're better off getting a good night's sleep before tackling the conflict again. Another good tip is to remember that every relationship is unique and it is damaging to compare yours to other relationships. I think the other gives some pretty solid, yet basic marriage advice that couples considering marriage should read. How this influenced my thinking: I have been married and divorced, and am in another relationship that is progressing toward marriage. I hope to avoid the mistakes made in my first marriage, so articles like this one apply directly to my personal life. However, no matter how good the advice is, you've got to make sure you're marrying someone you can absolutely be with through thick and thin. Title: The signs of a heart attack in women over 50 date: 01/05/2010 author: Sherril Steel-Carlin Why relevant and summary: This was a short article articulating what women over 50 should know to prevent a heart attack or get help as soon as they feel the first signs. In the recent disease heart attack are the number one killer of women and most of them can be prevented if we recognize the early symptoms. how has this influenced my thinking: Even though I am not quite that old, I do have an aging mother and mother in law, this is something that they need to be aware and my husband and I as well. Credibility: the article is published in a health and wellness online magazine, and even though the author is not a doctor, I am pretty sure she got her information for credible sources.

How This Influenced My Thinking: This article has influenced my thinking by discussing so many factors that influence a child's weight and doesn't blame the parent as being a careless or lazy parent rather it points to specific factors, such as socioeconomic status and genetics. How this influenced my thinking: I have always been intrigued about what makes people who they are and why some have such a strong personality or sense of who they are while others seem lost as to who they are. This article made me think that mabe the amount of dramatic experiences one faces creates their personality or who they want to be. Credibility of source: I think this came from a book, seems credible most of the info was very similar to wikipedia.

It goes in depth on identity formation stages, regarding politics, religion, a vocational goal and more clearly defined sex roles. How this influenced my thinking: I can relate to it because I can relate to some of the stages and understand them better. I also became more informed. Credibility of Source: It seems credible I believe it came from a book perhaps even a textbook.

This website continues by describing the stages of development and what to expect when expecting. It ends by discussing the importance of healthcare all around from environment to doctors visits. How this influenced my thinking: I was able to learn a little more on why it is imperative to consider all the different possibilities when having a child and how it is crucial that one sustains a healthy condition throughout their pregnancy in order to give their child the best outcome possible.
