They also go into explaining the nine temperament traits and give examples of each. How This Influenced My Thinking: I never really thought much about how important temperament was in children as well as goodness-of-fit when it came to the child's biology and their environment. Credibility of Source: very credible video featuring Thomas and Chess discussing temperament and their proposed concept of goodness-of-fit.

Title: Parenting styles/ Child temperaments : The match Author: Anita Gurian, PhD Date Published: Why Relevant and Summary: Its relevant because she talks not only but the child temperaments but about the types of parenting styles there are and how some styles might be good for certain temperaments. How to use your type of parenting style for your child's temperament. How This Influenced My Thinking: It helps my thinking because I'm able to see what kind of parenting style I have, what the temperaments of my children are and how I can match them so that my children are succeeding in life. Credibility of Source: I think its credible, a doctor wrote it along with supporting evidence of research.

DVD Author: power-babies-youtube video Date: March 24, 2011 Why relevant and summary:The process of habituation is very crucial to our cognitive development and ability to function in the world. This clip shows the activity how it is performed and how the data is collected and the graph plotted. I think it is very interesting watching what we learn how it is actually done in practice and also how it occurs naturally. How this influenced my thinking: It has made my belief stronger on the ability our children have to perform cognitive tasks at a much earlier age than previously thought. Credibility of source: This DVD is put together by a psychologist with a PhD in experimental psychology and cognitive science.

Title: Mother-Baby Behavioral sleep Laboratory Author: James McKenna Date Published: 2013 Why Relevant and Summary: Sharing your bed with your infant is a controversial issue, that has opponents and supporters. Dr McKenna has been studying sleep patterns of the infant for over 30 years and highly supports and recommends co sleeping if done properly. There are steps that he explains and the video is really good. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have practiced bed sharing with both my boys when they were infants and it was a very wonderful and beneficial experience for all of us. I am glad research supports it, despite media trying to make it a big issue. Credibility of Source:

This goes into the discussion of cognition and toys and how infants learn from their environment. Children make schemas, how we organize and process information, in order to make sense of things. However, for children, assimilation and accomodation are necessary since they are constantly learning and can confuse things. How This Influenced My Thinking:Schemas are a good learning tool, but can also make learning difficult. It is important to be open minded in order to take in new information. Otherwise, a person's schema may be flawed. Credibility of Source:Credible from about.com with references.

How This Influenced My Thinking: There's so much information on ADHD, and helpful links and material to help people that may have ADHD. Credibility of Source: It seems credible, and all the links have authors and dates on them as well.

Why Relevant and Summary: This is a powerpoint thats both defines the terms and types of parenting style proposed by Diana Baumrind. They go further as to explaining the way each parenting style affects the child in both a psychological way and physical way. How This Influenced My Thinking: This powerpoint helped to strengthen my knowledge in regards to the topic of parenting styles Credibility of Source: published on a .edu website which means its of educational purposes and should hold some validity and credibility

Title: Children and divorce Author: No Author Date Published: Updated March 2011 Why Relevant and summary: It is relevant because it talks about divorce and how it affects children. It also discusses what the best approach is when dealing with children and divorce. How this influenced my thinking: I am now more conscious and aware that everything that parents do will affect their children.

Title: Co-Parenting After Divorce - Sixteen Arguments in Support of Co-Parenting Author: Edward Kruk, Ph.D. Date published: April 16, 2012 Why relevant and summary: In the absence of violence, abuse, etc., the best thing for children in the midst of divorce is to have time with both parents. Shared parenting or Co-Parenting encourages children to maintain meaningful relationships with both parents after a divorce. Although in practice, this can be difficult and the reality is that in many divorces, kids will live primarily with one parent, the point is to set aside our anger and conflicts with the ex spouse and really put the children's needs first. How this influenced my thinking: I recently went through a divorce, and my ex spouse lives on the opposite coast. Co-parenting is quite tricky, but the bottom line is that we both agree that the kids need their father in the picture as much as possible. We have agreed to never, ever use the children as a weapon against each other. We always consult each other in terms of the children's needs, education, etc. Although the kids live 100% of the time with me, I encourage daily contact with their father via Skype/FaceTime, and when they are a bit older, they will be able to travel and spend some school vacations with their dad. Title:More tha a funny word Author: the Nemours Foundation Date Published:2013 Why Relevant and Summary: This is a great overall summary of puberty ad adresses the changes that occur during this time in everyone's lives. this wesite is specifically aimed for teenagers so it is easy follow and yet very informative. How This Influenced My Thinking: Gave me great perspective on the types of changes that occur during puberty and the way it is worded and writte made me feel like i was 16 again being reassured that what i am feeling is totally natural. How this influenced my thinking: I have found some good resources and easy tips on how to help children manage weight. Credibility: very credible government website with citation of resources.

Why Relevant and Summary: It discuss the three and six stages of Moral reasoning. How this influenced my thinking: it taught me more about morality and what influences and what stages an individual will go through. Credibility of source: seems credible it sources information and has two different authors.

Title: Creating a Strong and Satisfying Marriage Author: Janet A Clark, Sharon J Leigh Date Published: May 2000 Why Relevant and Summary: It discusses the characteristics needed for a happy and satisfying marriage, how to attain those, common areas of conflict, the importance of managing conflict, tips on how to resolve those conflicts, and tips on how to keep a marriage happy and healthy How This Influenced My Thinking: It was very informative, I thought it had some very good points. Most of it is common sense but it really puts it in perspective and lays it out for you Credibility of Source: Seems pretty credible

Title: Your Body at 50: A Health Guide for Women Author: No Author Date: No Date Why relevant and summary: This is a nice, user friendly overview of changes that women will go through in their 50s. It addresses bodily, mental and emotional changes as well as lifestyle adjustments. How this influenced my thinking: Although our bodies age and change over time, another birthday does not have to mean a loss of fitness or attractiveness. Women who eat clean, healthy diets and exercise regularly, are less likely to age as quickly as women who are sedentary and eat poor diets of processed foods. I have a 53 year old yoga instructor who can pass for 35. I hope I look that good at 50! For most women, her 50s mean menopause. But it is not really a pause at all. Menopause is more like a shift. Your hormone levels shift and change, and your body shifts out of its childbearing years into a new state of balance.

How this influenced my thinking: I have never really put alot of thought into what i would do when my parents got older and now i can understand better the pros and cons of putting them in a nursing home or caring for them myself. Credibility: Seems credible

Its origins, its beliefs, its counterarguments, etc. How This Influenced My Thinking: It introduced into the world of successful aging and got me thinking about a theory I've never even heard of. Credibility of Source: Had many links to other articles that may not have been super credible, but this article seemed legit.

The elderly begin to withdraw from activities they love because of an illness, for example. Little by little, they lose their independence and remove themselves from social networks. How this influenced my thinking:It's is sad to think that some elderly will withdraw themselves from society when they lose independence. It is important that as family, we keep in touch with our elderly family members and keep them as close to society as possible. Whether it be taking them to the park, grocery store, or just talking to them on a daily basis. Credibility of source: Seems credible. It includes all its sources.

Why Relevant and Summary: This goes over how to handle discussing divorce with children, what might be expected. and how to react to children's behaviour. Gives a list of what to try to do, and what to avoid. How this Influenced my Thinking: This showed me that there are multiple reasons for divorce, and how children usually feel fear when they dont know what will be happening to their family. this also showed me that family divorce counseling might not always be favorable.
