It also discusses a wide range of what to keep in mind when it comes to a child's temperament. How this influenced my thinking: This changed the way I think because it goes in detail how truly prepared a parent has to be. Credibility of source: it seems reliable it has refrences and cites everything.

Why relevant and summary: This article was an extract from a book called "Bullying - What Adults Need to Know and Do to Keep Kids Safe", which gives advice on how to handle bullying and how to help young children who are subject to it. It gives 8 tips that anyone who works with children can find useful. It stresses the idea that this is a phenomena that unfortunately exists in our schools, but it is preventable. We should educate ourselves and our kids and empower them to face challenges with confidence. How has this influenced my thinking: I am a mother of two young boys, and even though we have not experienced any bullying, is good to know as much as possible that in any event I can help my boys deal with this challenge. Credibility of source: This article was published on Kid-power.com by its founder who is a published author. Kidpower is a non profit organization which advocates and helps kids against abuse, kidnapping, bullying etc nation wide and internationally.

Title: Caregiving Support & Help: Tips for Making Family Caregiving Easier Date: last update April 2013 Author: Melinda Smith, M.A. and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D. Why relevant and summary: This was a very interesting article that outlined some of the challenges of being a caregiver and how to handle the situation. Some of the tips where practical like, exercise, eat healthy or get enough sleep to more specific which had to do with how to handle the emotional burden of the situation. How has this influenced my thinking: This article was very interesting for me, because I currently support my parents, even though they are in good health and able to take care of themselves, still some of the issues outline in the article apply to my situation as well. Source credibility: The article was publish on a government website and the authors are medical professionals.

Title: Dealing with others Author: Rick Green Date: 2010 Why relevant and summary: It is a funny short article that deals with how to answer questions and misconceptions about ADHD and keep your cool. It is aimed to people who have the diagnosis and struggle to explain their behavior and challenges to others. How has this influenced my thinking: I really found it very interesting the advice given, and i think these rules can be applied to anything people have misconceptions about. Why credible: This article was written for the ADHD.org website.

How This Influenced My Thinking: After our class discussion on BMI, it made me wonder if perhaps the statistics listed regarding overweight children are based off of BMI. Even though BMI is a good place to start, it is certainly not an accurate indicator of our children's body composition. Credibility of Source: High.

Title: Effects of Divorce on Children Author: Lesley Foulkes-Jamison Date Published: 2001 Why Relevant and Summary:This article focused on children and their behaviors and reactions after divorce. It also gave some good insight on what parents could do to make their child feel less confused about the divorce. How This Influenced My Thinking: I learned about statistics of how likely children are to behave in negative ways after divorce and also gave me good advice on how to help your child cope. Credibility of Source: Lesley is a psychologist and has a Ph.D and all of her information seemed to be very accurate.

How This Influenced My Thinking: Opened my eyes up to the many challenges present in this type of situation - when a couple is not happy together nor getting along but still need to work really hard to keep a good enough relationship to support their children. Includes Marcia's Identity Status Model. How This Influenced My Thinking: We all know it's hard to be in identity achievement, but this article explains why. Credibility of Source: Good.

D Date Published: November 17, 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: The University of Chicago has composed a chart/pathway that people in their middle and later adulthood can follow as they adapt to the challenges of aging. Some of those pathways that they included are as followed: Meandering way (a way to achieve unclear goals), and Straight and narrow path (life is characterized by predictability). How This Influenced My Thinking: I found this article to be ironic, simply because it his helps older adults to come over difficulties but the irony is that it is found online, which most older adults do not know how to use a computer. Credibility of Source: The article is very credible and written by a doctor.

Why Relevant and Summary: This article discusses a study that was done show a relationship with stress and caregiving. In particular, one the study proved that caregivers reported having lower overall health ratings due to stress. How This Influenced My Thinking: After reading the article I never realized How much stress caregivers go through taking care of someone else. In contrast, I have always thought caregiver had a fairly easy job besides the minor lifting of the patient and cleaning them. Credibility of Source: The author is a Therapist

This article has a real life perspective of people going through the motions of caring for and making decisions for their elderly parents. Times of caring for the parents were described in depth from the perspective of the adult caregiver. This article gives a great outlook on the emotional roller coaster that the adult caregiver goes on and how this affects her deeply. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article made me really think about how difficult it would be to care for an elderly adult that is affected by dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Identifies all the hassles that can come with taking on the responsibility but also recognizes all the rewards and the enriching, meaningful experience it can be. How This Influenced My Thinking: It forced me to look at the situation--caregiving for an elderly parent/parents-- from both perspectives. I was able to understand how it affects both the children and the parents and able to understand the pros and cons. Credibility of Source: CNN News-- pretty credible.

Title: Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development Author: Devan Udall Date Published: June 25, 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: The information provided in this video is a clear, factual presentation of Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development. In chapter eight of our Human Development textbook we will be discussing adolescence and will go over theories surrounding morality, Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development is one of them. This video gives a brief introduction to Kohlberg's research and professional career. It presents The Stages of Moral Development as well as recorded interviews illustrating the Heinz Dilemma experiment. How This Influenced My Thinking: I found this reference video supporting some of my theories surrounding moral development. However, as I was doing more research I realized how many variables were not being considered in Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development. As I challenged Kohlberg's theory on its broader application I thought about what research methods could be used to provide supportive evidence. Title: Bring up BABIES: Director Thomas Balmes and producer Alain Chabat talk Author: Nick Dawsom Date published: March 16, 2010 (movie BABIES released May 7, 2010) Why Relevant and Summary: This beautiful film is relevant to the development of children globally in that it artistically represents the similarity and differences in the first year of life. Four children are followed from birth to their first birthday: Ponijao in Opuwo, Nambia, Mari in Tokyo, Japan, Bagar in Bayanchandmani, Mongolia, and Hattie in San Francisco, California. Some is a challenge to watch, as for us some of the parenting habits are unfamiliar to our culture, while many moments are funny and beautiful. I encourage you to watch the movie, and have linked specifically to this article so that you can also read about the director and producers' thoughts on the film. Credibility of source: Very credible.
