Title: Handbook of Adolescent Psychology (4th ed.) Author: Laurence Steinberg, PhD Date Published: Copyright 1999-2012 Why Relevant and Summary: Discusses theory of identity formation. This is a photocopy from a book that someone put on the web. The url provides 29 pages. I found page 3-4 to be the most relevant for the assignment because those pages compare Erikson's and Marcia's theories in a way that was new to me. The other pages were interesting and went into depth, but pages 3-4 were most helpful and straight to the point after having already read about identity formation in our class textbook. How This Influenced My Thinking: It compares the differences between Erikson's and Marcia's theories on identity formation (starting on the 3rd page). Credibility of Source: High.

This video argues that stroke paralysis, and phantom pains could be "learned" behaviors and not innately biological. How This Influenced My Thinking: In writing my paper I discuss traumatic brain injury in the developing children and how it influences processes. This video delves deeper into neurological development and behaviors which may be more of a product of environment than biology alone. title-ADHD author- multiple (its a governmental website) date-ND why relevant/summary-This site is relevant to my topic because it describes ADHD in a way that it easy to understand and break down. It discusses the 3 subtypes of adhd that i didnt even know existed. And it tells you what it used to treat it. how it influenced my thinking- This site influenced my thinking on what adhd is because before, i thought it was a straight forward disorder that people took medication for. But after visiting this site, i realized that there are different types, and it affects people differently. Not everyone is medicated for it, and many people go through life undiagnosed. credibility of source- credible since its a government website

Author: Kori Ellis Date Published: April 3, 2012 Why relevant/summary: This article gives a great explanation of what ADHD is, how to treat it as well as a look at the over diagnosis of the disorder. How did this influence my thinking?: This article makes clear many aspects of ADHD that I had not thought of or known about prior to reading it. Source Credibility: Very credible. Not only did the author include relevant personal opinions but included many citations from medical professionals in many different fields of medicine.

Title: Nature, Nurture and Attention Deficit Author: ALIYAH BARUCHIN Date Published: 3/12/08 Why Relevant and Summary: I was curious about whether nature or nurture is responsible for ADHD. This article was an interview with Susan Smalley, Ph.D., is a professor in the department of psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles, Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and director of its Mindful Awareness Research Center. How this influenced my thinking: I was fascinated to find out about some of the environmental factors that show increased lecels of ADHD. Credibility: I'm on the fence. The doctor seems credible, but I am not sure about the writer.

Why Relevant and summary: This article explains what each parenting style consists of. it has questions to help readers determine what parenting style they might be using. it gives good examples of each style and a situation in which you would be reacting, and it gives strengths and weaknesses of each as well. How this changed my Thinking: This backed up the information I already was aware of, but it did clarify some things. Credibility of Source: Under the article, it states that Carol Lloyd is the executive editor of GreatSchools and mother to two raucous daughters, ages 7 and 11. She has experience.

Title: Suicidal Thoughts More Common in Kids With Autism: Study Date: 3/21/2013 Author: Amy Norton Why relevant and summary: This article reports on the findings of a scientific study published on the "Research in Autism Spectrum disorders" journal, that children on the spectrum have a higher chance of contemplating or thinking about suicide than their typical peers. This is especially pronounced in those families where the mothers are depressed as well and bulling happens in school. The author reports on both sides which support and are against such findings. How has this changed my thinking: As a mother of a child on the spectrum I am really concerned and interested in finding out how this disorder will affect him, as he grows and what can i do to help. Source credibility: This article was published on an online news magazine and reports findings published in an academic journal.

Title: Obese Kids More Vulnerable to Bullies Author: Harding, A. Date published:2010 Summary and Why Relevant: Explains how kids who are obese are much more likely to be bullied then children at an average weight. How this influenced my thinking: I always knew children who are overweight are more likely to be made fun of, but i was surprised at how obesity has doubled in children over the past 20 years. Credibility of source: From CNN so i think it is credible.

Author : Satoshi Kanazawa Date : 10/03/2010 Why Relevant and Summary: It's relevant because in my paper, I discuss the debate of age difference in relationships. This article provides support in the maturation of girls and boys and why some people prefer the age difference and why some people may not. How This Influenced My Thinking It helps my thinking to understand where my husband and I are at in our marriage to where we were when we dated in high school. I was more mature than he was, but now he has matured and to be more intelligent than I am but we are equally mature enough. We are also 3 days apart in age.

It talks about the basic respect that partners need to show each other. It says that a happy marriage means respecting your spouse. It also discusses healthy ways to resolve conflicts step by step with a spouse. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article made a great point - that true compatibility doesn't exist, so shrug off the little stuff. It says that irreconcilable differences are normal and we shouldn't try to resolve or unresolve but rather come to terms with them and except the differences between you and your partner. I often feel that if you are unhappy because of disagreements that will never be resolved -then you should leave. But the point that we should just except these disagreements and cherish the stronger aspects of a relationship has changed my thinking on this. How this influenced my thinking: Although this journal was very brief It did help me get a sense of what disengagement theory is. It gave some examples that went with the key ideas so that made it helpful. Credibility: seems credible since the author has a Ph D

Title: A review of successful aging models: Proposing proactive coping as an important additional strategy Author: Carolijn Ouwehand, Denise T.D. de Ridder, Jozien M. Bensing Date Published: Aug. 3, 2006 Why relevant and summary: This is a really great look into aging successfully and what that process entails. It delves into selective optimization with compensation. The authors argue that proactive coping - attempting to prevent potential stressors that are the cause of this decrease in resources - may be a valuable strategy for successful aging. The authors also present this theory as a method of postponing disengagement from daily activities. How this influenced my thinking: I have not given much thought to aging, although I know it is happening and will continue to happen. I've always just kind of viewed the elderly with a distant form of respect coupled with a bit of sorrow. Let's face it, who wants to get old? Yet, this will happen to all of us unless (god forbid) some unforseen tragedy strikes first. Reading about ways to gracefully and successfully age and avoid or postpone disengagement, will go a long way as people enter older adulthood. When I reach older adulthood, I hope to be as active as that 106 year old man who started running marathons in his 80s!

It gives statistics of teenage pregnancies, sexual intercourse, marriage. How it affected my thinking: These statistics blew me away. I honestly though there were not that many teenagers having sex at an early age, I thought many teenagers had their first intercourse when they were at least 17 years old, but according to the statistics there are teenagers whom are having intercourse at the young age of 12 and 3.
