Lately my thoughts and efforts are shifting from figuring out how to get educators familiar and comfortable enough to use technology, as just another teaching tool to how to change or facilitate a shift of a school's culture into a learning community.
When we Skyped with Silvia, what happens years ago, makes more sense. She told us way more than I'd read in a textbook. She made me put myself in Germany during the night of broken glass.
1. Many in the blogger- and Twittersphere are realizing and understanding that their PLN will give them back what they put into it.
2. We need to share what we do in the classroom, not only to give other educators fresh ideas and new ways to look at teaching and learning, but also to collectively show that schools and individual classrooms ARE changing and preparing students for a different future.
Julie and I spent some time with Silvia Tolisano talking about global collaboration, telling the story of how the flat classroom started and why we kept it going and the reason for the book. Also we snuck into the things shared in the book that we hope will help those involved in global education make it scalable and consistent. Probably the most fun was our discussion near the end about how Silvia and I "met" online and how we covered ISTE2006 from afar on our computers (pre twitter.) it was a fun talk.

Thank you for taking a moment. This is a great project she's doing for these 6th graders. She does such a wonderful job of helping students develop an authentic audience.
The more I am playing and experimenting with the SmartBoard and the software Notebook 10, the more I am convinced that the power is IN THE SOFTWARE. But not the software itself, but how it is used as a tool to present the lesson in a new way, for a different learning style, for access outside of the classroom.
