Temple Grandin, diagnosed with autism as a child, talks about how her mind works -- sharing her ability to "think in pictures," which helps her solve problems that neurotypical brains might miss. She makes the case that the world needs people on the autism spectrum: visual thinkers, pattern thinkers, verbal thinkers, and all kinds of smart geeky kids.
Using a TED.com video in a Common Core aligned writing assignment as students learn about speech patterns with the purpose of driving a TED-like conference at the school.
This demo -- from Pattie Maes' lab at MIT, spearheaded by Pranav Mistry -- was the buzz of TED. It's a wearable device with a projector that paves the way for profound interaction with our environment. Imagine "Minority Report" and then some.

The Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra contains the best high school musicians from Venezuela's life-changing music program, El Sistema. Led here by Gustavo Dudamel, they play Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10, 2nd movement, and Arturo Márquez' Danzón No. 2.
I watched this broadcast live and when it was over I stood and applauded. I just watched it again and I stood and applauded again. This youth symphony from Venezuela will make YOU stand, too. Watch BOTH pieces!

I think this is an OUTSTANDING video for an economics class. There are so many questions that you could pose for discussion, too. "All electric cars sounds perfect, doesn't it? But, how will we generate the electricity for that demand?" Or, on a deeper social studies level, "DIscuss what you think would happen to those countries like Saudi Arabia and Iraq whose economy is based on oil production? Support your thoughts." Do yourself a favor and watch this video. Then send it to every economics teacher you know.
