TeacherTube - 1 views

Brief Description: Teacher Tube is an educational website where educators can upload instructional material to the cyber-world. People can gain ideas, upload their videos for others, or receive teaching resources. Brief Explanation: Teacher Tube is a great website because it allows you to share information effectively and can be useful for others to review and receive your personal ideas and research.

  •
What it does: This has a wealth of resources to learn "how to" do a number of tasks. Why this one? In providing pre-training for certain tasks, why re-invent the wheel? Why create a new "how to use xyz" when that video probably already exists on Teachertube. Youtube is also an option, but I prefer Teachertube since it is more teacher/education oriented. Consequently, the content, flow, and logic may be more educationally sound than the general public who posts on YouTube. Learning benefit: For essential learning, learners have a large database of short training sessions and can learn many essential basics for pre-training needs.
  •
Teacher Tube is a online sharing site that hosts video, photographs, documents and audio files that cater to an educational environment. The format is much like You Tube. Files can be easily shared/embedded on a variety of sites. Once you investigate these resources for the content and quality that you are searching, they prove to be a great way to promote essential learning. I chose this site because, like You Tube, there are some high quality videos available. Rather than reinventing the wheel, the busy educator has ready-made resources at his/her fingertips. You Tube is blocked in my school organization so Teacher Tube is a comparable resources and it is controlled for inappropriate language and controlled for inappropriate language and content.
  •
This site is a great resource for teachers and students alike. It is a safe and reliable site that provides educational videos that are appropriate for students of all ages. The site is a safe alternative to Youtube but it is not as well known among the student population. I would recommend this site to teachers in my workshop to upload videos of completed dance projects. It is also a great place for students to make comments.
  •
    * Brief description of Web site: A free tool that provides an online community for sharing instructional videos. Additionally, it is a site where teachers can post videos designed for students to view in order to learn a concept or skill. * Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found: This site is better than YouTube because it is strictly for educational purposes. Besides the fact that it is a free resources, users are able to view videos or upload videos to it.
  •
TeacherTube is a video sharing website with the same features as YouTube, but for educators. Unfortunately, in many school districts by content filtering systems, YouTube has been blocked due to some of the content that can be accessed on the site. TeacherTube allows educators and students the ability to access various educational videos, documents, blogs, groups, photos, and audio to utilize and share in the classroom while at school. Many of these educational resources can be used as pre-training materials to a workshop, such as with my workshop on storytelling; I would show a short video about what PBL means as a means to introduce participants to the concept and to explain that they will be using PBL to design their own storytelling lesson. TeacherTube is much easier to access while at school than YouTube, which is why I feel TeacherTube is a better working tool for educators to use rather than attempting to access YouTube videos.

Wikispaces - 3 views

  •
This website is a hosting service that allows you to create pages, edit pages and collaborate with people. It provides a wonderful opportunity for students to create projects and get feedback from others. Documents, pictures, graphics and videos can be upload to the site. I chose this site because it was very user friendly with some Office features.

Wikis/Wikispace is a website that allows groups, individuals, etc. to create web pages on their preferences. Members are invited to groups. Also the web pages can be public or private. Wikispace is a great website because I can create a page to upload a survey/questionnaire to determine the knowledge of the participants. Also A chat session/blog will be created so the learners can receive feedback on their questions.
  •
Wikispaces is an excellent platform for providing information to individuals and groups. I have used this resource for many years and prefer the simple layout and navigational tools. Information can be linked, downloaded and posted to provide synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities. Active discussions, or interactions can also be monitored.
  •
Assignment 3 Wikispaces provides sharing and feedback of pre-training requirements. The creation of a wiki for pre-training material promotes essential learning by allowing learners to engage with key elements of the workshop and build retention of fundamental skills. I prefer wikispaces due to the cost effectiveness and technical ease of the software as well as faithful tech support.
  •
Allows users to create simple web pages and allow public access and rights to edit pages together. This site is free and easy to use. It does not require participants to have a login to view.
  •
Because my workshop is about Using Wikis in Education, the authentic assessment for my workshop participants will be to create a wiki for their professional/classroom use. Wikispaces will be used to house my own presentation so it will serve as an exemplar for what they are expected to produce. By creating their own wikis, participants will demonstrate generative learning because they will need to organize and apply their learning to create their own authentic project utilizing a rubric. I chose this site because it is user friendly and produces an attractive product. Additionally, Wikispaces has excellent video tutorials to demonstrate how to use the site.
  •
Wikispaces allows users to create pages for sharing. The user can present to many individuals without having to leave the house. It creates an online setting where users can participate in online learning with each other. Students may work together in teams on pages within the Wiki. It is an effective tool because of the ability to post work in an organized manner.
  •
Wikispaces is a free resource that allows you to create online presentations. I like this resource because it is free, easy to use, and it create professional looking presentations in a website form.
  •
This website was chosen to demonstrate the usefulness of wikis in the classroom. This website is learner-centered where, "the focus is on using multimedia technology to aid to human cognition." (Mayer, 2009, p. 13) Using this website, workshop participants can see how easy it is to create a wiki page for them and for their students to create. Mayer considers behavioral activity to be hands-on. Since this website will be used for hands -on activity, creating a wikispace, this website should be considered behavioral.
  •
Wikispaces is a great way to showcase a student's work in progress or the finished product. Students can insert a link to their completed ActivInspire flipcharts for everyone to see. Free and easy to use.
  •
Wikispaces is a great online collaboration tool to use for authentic assessment activities. Wikispaces allows the learner to integrate the material in various ways as Wikispaces will allow embedding of presentations, videos, animations, virtually anything that can be embedded can be put into Wikispaces.
  •
Allows users to create a multitude of shared products from lessons to discussion forums with embedded audio or video if desired. Free to use, easy to navigate, ability to produce multiple pages, and can share pages with virtually anyone with Internet access.
  •
This site allows users to host free wiki that can be public or private. This is a great service for students and teachers. It is easy to use (compared to other wiki sites) and it allows the publisher to have a lot of control of content, editing and privacy. Students could use this to create a large graphic organizer that they could all participate in editing.
  •
I have used a number of different wiki sites but find Wikispaces the most user friendly and intuitive one - great qualities from a user perspective. They also offer timely support if needed. I would highly recommend it.
  •
Wikispaces is an online wiki hosting site. Users can collaborate to create a variety of products using a variety of media including text, pictures, links, and videos. Teachers can create teams to collaborate on authentic projects. The wiki is not what makes the assessment authentic, it is what the teacher and learners do with the wiki that allows it to provide an authentic learning experience. Wikispaces is a great site to create wikis because it is intuitive and easy to use. It tracks each change and allows members to view previous edits, and restore old versions, if needed. Wikispaces can promote generative processing by providing a space and opportunity for learners to integrate the content into an authentic product. It is better than other similar sites because it provides so many options and features for contributors, but it is still user friendly.
  •
In wikispaces, users can set up their own pages and work collaboratively with other users. Wikis can hold files, media and can contain links to other areas.
  •
Wikispaces allows users to collaborate online. Features include embedding files and videos, invitations to members, and restrictions for access and editing. Wikis support the principles of generative and essential learning. The collaboration that occurs through the use of a wiki creates an engaging learning environment for participants to process the material they are learning. Wikis are easier to use for collaborative efforts.
  •
o Wikispaces provides a space where learners can collaborate while developing a final product to demonstrate understanding. Pictures, videos, documents, and just about anything can be added to the site. Cognitive processing is at its best with this tool as learners create knowledge together from the material they have studied. o Extremely easy to use especially with the update where the teacher can create a class code to share with students so they can join the class from any wiki account.

Prezi - 1 views

  •
Prezi is an online presentation software tool that allows you to create wonderful presentations that will capture your audience's attention. It can be used in the classroom as a teaching tool or with the students. I think this site was good because Prezi gives you basic setup options and lessons to assist you in creating your presentation and learning how to use it.

  •
Presentation development site that allows the user to create a unique and visually stimulating production. Relatively easy to navigate with much better graphics than most free sites.
  •
Prezi is a combination of a graphic organizer and a presentation tool. It allows the user to incorporate video, pictures and text into the presentation. The program allows the user to create a presentation that is semi-linear in fashion. Prezi is free and allows the user to store the presentation on their servers, thereby eliminating the need for the user to have access to the same computer.
  •
    * Prezi provides an innovative method of creating presentations based on building concepts rather than based on slides. This site is extremely good for showing connections between concepts and stories. It is embeddable and well suited for use in web based presentations. Slide based presentation tools like Slideshare and Google Presentation are merely adaptations of mid 20th century slide projectors.
  •
Prezi allows a presenter to make an online presentation similar to the standard PowerPoint, but with much more interest and relationship. The movement of the presentation is within words and photos using a zoom in or fly-over effect. Effective presentations can be created to show relationship. Additionally, using the tool with students does not require that they have the software at home to work outside of class (just a side note).
  •
Prezi is like a PowerPoint but is more interesting. Video and other links can be embedded.

Storytelling | Xtranormal - 2 views

  •
    I love this website.

Xtranormal is a website that allows individuals to make a movie just by texting. Xtranormal will be a used to present the objectives of the presentation. The animation will allow the learners to view a visual with audio/text (present two types of learning).
  •
Assignment, Module 3 - Xtranormal.com is a web-based presentation tool that allows the user to create a movie from text.  The site claims that, "if you can type, you can make movies."  Users are provided with 3D characters that are brought to life through adding content to their voices.  It uses a drag-and-drop animation system of editing.  Another advantage is you can follow this site from FaceBook or on Twitter.  One disadvantage is the recommended configuration is limited to Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista.
  •
Xtranormal was one of the featured websites in the programs for Module 3. It is a very easy to use website to create videos. I used it to create the directions for the pre-training activity. In order to create a video you simply type in your script, select your character, background, camera angles, and character movements. This text to speech website is an example of generative learning because it simplifies the expectations for the participants.
  •
For the presentation section of the workshop, the instructor could use text and create an animation using avitars to make the lesson interesting to the learners.
  •
Brief description of what it allows you to do and how it can be used for essential or generative learning: Allows you to create an animation presentation by inputting a script with directional movements. This can be used as an introduction tool of a segment presentation. It provides a visual animation with sound and text possibilities. Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found (e.g., more effective, creates better products, easier to use, and so on): It can be limiting using the free version, but awesome for foreign languages. My students loved it and could make their presentations unique and creative.
  •
Xtranormal is a movie-making tool that allows the user to create movies with little experience. It permits prerecorded features as well as user inventive frames. Using this tool in my presentations will move my students to a deeper understanding beyond PowerPoint presentations.
  •
Just as with Go Animate, Xtranormal is applicable to the essential and generative learning processes. Xtranormal allows a user to organize and integrate what he/she has learned into a short animated cartoon. Xtranormal allows users to create fully animated video cartoons to represent learned materials. Videos on Xtranormal are easily created, stored, and shared.
  •
This site allows you to create short animated videos about any content. These videos allow information to be relayed in a different way. This multimedia tool is user friendly and can be used with any topic.
  •
This website allows you to choose an avatar and design a 3D animated presentation of the text provided. This will be a great added feature to add visuals to what I have to share for my presentation. In my classroom, this multimedia tool would inspire student creativity, meet student learning needs who may be uncomfortable speaking in front of others.
  •
You can use this site to make animated movies of your presentation.

brainPOP - 0 views

  •
This also is a site which I have been familiar with, more recently when I received my interactive whiteboard. This site appears to be much more technology centered, where it is designed to be used with the interactive boards and student response systems. BrainPop.com is also partner with the Promethean Company, where many of its features are accessible using their products. As you navigate through the subject areas, each lesson begins with a short video and provides additional resources such as games, printable handouts and a short quiz. There also are sites for K-3 and ESL learners. The technology used to present this site to students (interactive whiteboards, student response systems) was developed prior to this site, although it is possible to integrate this in others ways to students (centers, whole group using a projector) but it is clear this site was directly designed and developed with the technology in mind first.

For those of you familiar with the software Inspiration, this is a web version with some of the same options. This is a mind mapping tool that helps you "capture ideas, organize information, collaborate and share your work, and create diagrams.

This website allows you to create custom graphic organizers online, and was created by the same company that makes the popular Inspiration graphic organizer software. It is user friendly, and is better than many programs because it allows you to share your work via links, or invite members to edit your work.
  •
The more I use this website, the more I am impressed with what I can do. It's ability to insert hyperlinks to the bubbles in the organizers encouraged me to use it in the pre-training module of my workshop. In the general case, it can be used in all the modules. The ability to script an outline and have the software generate the organizer is convenient and time-saving.
  •
This site provides the ability to organize, map out and collaborate with others ideas and information. This site is free and available on public beta. Users are provide with tips and examples.
  •
This web version of a mind map tool can be created electronically and embedded into other presentations. User-friendly for the middle school student.
  •
This site will allow students organize information by building a mind map of specific content. With the mind map, students create a quick view chart or graph which, along with a transcript which will place the information in a outline for ease of studying. The lesson plan will help the student use content information to extract specific concepts to create a snapshot of how information is connected to a specific idea. This activity can be done independently and shared with classmates for input. In addition, the students will rely on their cognitive ability to develop the mind map.
  •
Webspiration is a Web 2.0 tool that helps you create an online web (similar to the old Inspiration). You can organize your ideas and be creative at the same time. Your Webspiration product can even be embedded in a webpage or blog. Easy to use. Familiar to those who've used Inspiration or Kidspiration in the past.
  •
I use Webspiration to map out ideas, organize with outlines and collaborate online with teams or colleagues. This site can be use for generative learning the organizer will give participants an overview of the main concepts and allow them to construct new knowledge. I selected this sit because it is user friendly. It also has sample organizers that you can use.
  •
Webspiration http://www.mywebspiration.com/ This site allows users to create a mind map using various different fonts and templates. Webspiration allows for generative learning becasue the participants would be actively involved with the creation. I like this site becasue it is free. The webs can be embedded into blogs and the webs can be worked on collaboratively in a group. I plan to use some collaborative grouping during my presentation. Participants can also view the visual in an outline form for easier construction of the web.
  •
Webspiration is an interactive web-based graphic organizer generator. It is a wonderful way to create graphic organizers that can also be used during presentations. It is easy to use and allows teachers to hyperlink out to other sites to help students understand concepts better. The best part about Webspiration is that it allows groups/individuals to work collaboratively and share their ideas.
  •
Online version of Inspiration mind-mapping software. Site is at the generative level of cognitive processing, as users can apply the tool in the creation of an endless variety of graphic organizers for any purpose. The site includes instructional tips and samples. It allows for high levels of customization or really simple, automated creation, perfect for new users.
  •
This tool I think is one of the best program to create concept map. Also, you can make outlines, work collaboratively and have a great help center link with a lot of features to create an amazing work.
  •
Webspiration is the online counterpart to Inspiration/Kidspiration software. The online interface allows users to design a wide variety of mind maps and graphic organizers. The software makes it possible for users to easily build diagrams that reflect the key components to essential and generative processing. This online resource has many advantages: free access, the ability to collaborate with other Webspiration users on the same project, online chat features to promote synchronous collaboration, an unlimited amount of storage space, and robust tools for design, editing, and sharing.
  •
*Mindmapping tools assist learners with connecting and organizing their learning and give instructors a view of where students may have misrpresentations. Concept maps as assessments: http://pandora.cii.wwu.edu/cii/resources/modules/concept/default.asp *Webspiration allows students to use various icons for representing their material while it seamlessly creates outlines in the background.
  •
It allows the students to build a framework towards independent thinking and improve their study skills. This is easier to use because it has apps to guide the student. In higher education, the students are able collaborate about their visual art.
  •
Webspiration is a teacher friendly site that contains a vast array of graphic organizers, diagrams, writing organizers and many others. This site is typically used in grades 5-12. With many options, students and/or teacher are able to find an organizer that suits their project or essay. This site is easy to use and is effective in assisting students in independently developing their graphic organizer.

Bubbl.us is a graphic organizer builder that I use not only for Walden activities but also in my own classroom. Bubbl.us is effective because it is a quick way to create a graphic organizer for any topic. Also, it can be used to create a mind map for students to demonstrate their understanding of a topic.
  •
Bubble.us is the best web brainstorming application. It is somewhat limited in that it can not do a lot of different types of graphic organizers but it is absolutely free, and easily sharable to others. The menu button allows the information to be exported as an image, html, or xml that can be shared on a blog or printed. Many other brainstorming applications do not allow for exporting into different formats.
  •
This website provides a way to create creative graphic organizers to make connections with prior and new learning. Students are then able to "see" connections with the color coding of information. The organizer can be completed prior to the lesson and broken down into pieces and archived into the slides using Interwrite. Bubbl.us is technology centered because content is entered into the text boxed. Then the students print out their mind map. The mind map helps students to choose what is important to remember because of the limited capacity of working memory. (Mayer, 2008)
  •
Bubbl.us is a free web application that allows users to create an interactive web based graphic organizer. As with other graphic organizers, Bubbl.us will aid the generative process and allow users to organize and categorize what is being learned at a given time.

What it does: There are 36 different graphic organizers that teachers and students can print and use. Why this one: This site has 36 different graphic organizers for which permission is granted for educators to reproduce and utilize. The variety of organizers covers a large realm of different possibilities for different project. Learning benefits: Teachers can use these for themselves as well as students and could generate a great deal of ideas on how to incorporate into a multimedia method. The conversion from paper to electronic would serve two purposes - generative learning of creating an electronic version and the graphic organization of the lesson.

This is a good site for the most basic graphic organizers to the more difficult organizers. There are also a variety of organizers on this site. In some cases, I could use these as organizers for the material in the presentation, offer the organizers as tools for the participants to use to note take, and to use to organize their information throughout the presentation. More importantly, these can be used to also help teach research strategies when participants take the training materials to the classroom.

Animoto is the simplest of all free presentation tools! It also doesn't profess to allow the user to do everything. It allows educators to create an unlimited number of videos from still images, including a choice of background music.
  •
Description: Video slideshow creator using words and audio and graphics Why better: Slideshows can align with Mayer's(2001) principles. Downloadable and embeddable.
  •
Animoto is designed to allow its users to upload captions and images in order to create vivid videos set to music. Animoto videos are what I like to consider, "smart videos." They analyze the video, feel the music, and then customize the video, allowing users to share and publish their unique video to any webpage. Animoto videos are a creative and fun way to introduce a topic of study, introduce vocabulary, or to teach a short lesson with. Animoto is free to use after making an account, but unless a membership is purchased with Animoto, the videos that you make will be no longer than 30 seconds in length. I have used it with my presentations, after purchasing a membership, and participants of the presentation were engaged and excited about what they saw and learned. It makes learning more interesting. Animoto is better than most other video production sites as it offers its users a variety of professionally looking templates to add your photos, text, and audio to, whereas other sites are limited on their templates to basic features.

The website also provides the viewer with information on the benefits of using graphic organizers. Also, the website provides links to software that can be use in creating different types of organizers. This website could also be used on as pre-training for creating graphic organizers and other technology aspects of a multimedia workshop. A graphic organizer can be used in conjunction with a lesson to help the student and/or participant organizer the material. Mayer (2010) discusses generative learning as a way to help make sense of the material. The Graphic organizer can help sort the wealth of information provided throughout the work shop.

Glogster (EDU version) - 4 views

The classroom is a dynamic environment with a huge variety of opportunities for showcasing what has been learned in professional development. Sure, writing a lesson plan or a reflection may indicate how well the participant has benefited from PD course material, but to gain an authentic look into what the students are now capable of doing as a result of the teacher's professional development a web 2.0 tool may be more appropriate. An authentic assessment option is the glog. The glog is a way for educators to share what the students have learned and how the objectives from a PD course have been integrated into daily instruction. Plus, students love the multimedia interface and easy to use tools.

Brief description of what it allows you to do and how it can be used for essential or generative learning: You create an online posted with interactive features...sound, text, video, flash animations. This is a great product tool for assessment because it hosts all types of input as previously mentioned. You can also provide links to outside sites. Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found (e.g., more effective, creates better products, easier to use, and so on): Free version to educators and easy to share products by sending links. Demonstrates creativity and allows the user to incorporate multiple items (i.e. text, pictures, videos, links, sounds).
  •
Site lets users create online, multimedia "posters" about a desired topic. This site could function for pre-learning at either the essential or generative level, depending upon the content added to the presentation. At the essential level, users could post samples and important terms. At the generative, prompts or questions could be included to promote application of knowledge. The site is reasonably easy to learn and free, and users can include images, text, graphics, audio, or video elements, making for a complete multimedia presentation.
  •
*Create interactive online posters *Glogster is where creativity and technology meet. It gives students opportunities to creatively present material.
  •
Glogster is an alternative to the typical two-dimensional posters and PowerPoints that have been the staple of research projects for years. "Glogs" are posters that students can create online to demonstrate their learning about a variety of topics using many different types of media to present their information. This tool definitely allows for active cognitive learning as students are able to choose not only the content to add to their Glog, but also the forms of media to be used on that Glog. The student can choose to use video, sound, pictures, and many other media forms to present content, but they have to remember not to overcrowd their Glog with too much information or too much media.

This online tool lets you create a poster with embedded video, audio, images and text. I have yet to explore this web tool, so I am choosing it to force myself to experience a powerful and engaging learning tool for my presentation.

This is an education-safe online environment where teachers can add classes to assign projects using Glogster. Students can use this multimedia tool to explore presentations previously made on a variety of subjects and topics, as well as creating their own glogs.
  •
Glogster allows learners to create an interactive poster, in which they post images, text, music and videos. They can also include links to other websites, including other glogs, to make their project more comprehensive. When used to create a project, this is a deeply learner-centered technology, as it requires a great deal of both behavioral and cognitive activity. Viewing it as part of the workshop will require both kinds of activity as well.
