EDU 2.0 for school: the free, easy way to teach and learn online - 0 views

  •
Edu 2.0 provides all the elements of face to face classroom in to a digital classroom. This site can be used in the presentation portion and allows for participation through wiki's, blogs,a and chat rooms. I like this site because it is free, you can pick and choose what you want to set up and have available for participants. It does require participants to sign in and allows you to monitor and track progress.

This portal provides the teacher with the opportunity to create a course with lessons that can become available to students as they are being administered. It also provides the teacher with collaborative tools, opportunity to prepare group work which can be monitored, to prepare a gradebook and many more interesting applications. It is also very easy to use.

Pete's Power Point Station - A Collection of FREE Presentations in PowerPoint format fo... - 0 views

This is by far one of the best powerpoint oriented portals on the web. The nice thing is that you can save a useful ppt on your computer without licensing issues. The drawback is that there are so many options and links that just dropping in for a fast pick-up of a presentation is difficult. Additional links on the site go to educational clipart and interactive activities. Just a great site.

Mind42 - 1 views

  •
Mind42 is a browser based online mind mapping application. With Mind42 mindmapping tools are no longer needed, you can manage ideas alone, or work collaboratively
  •
The mind42 site offers a free online tool for creating graphic organizers / mind maps similar to those created by webspiration. However, mind42 provides excellent file export functionality saving as .jpg, .png, .pdf, and other file formats. Also of interest are collapsible / expandable branches that could facilitate a gradual introduction of topics in a live lesson, as well as the ability to include notes, Web links, and a variety of icons in each node as needed. Of note, however, is the ability to include images directly into the graphic organizer by searching for relevant images online or by providing a direct link to an online image. Some basic formatting options, such as text color and size, are present. However, as all nodes other than the parent or central node are lines, no formatting of shapes is available. The tool does offer a simple approach to creating mind maps and graphic organizers, which may warrant additional investigation and use. In short, the saving functionality, branching without termination nodes (use a line instead), collapsibility, and image inclusion are features that may prove more useful than comparable tools. Considering essential cognitive processing, the tool may assist with selecting and organizing complex material in order to reach a generative processing state. This may be possible by presenting information in a keyed and organized approach, which is a central premise of most mind mapping software.
  •
Mind42 is an online mind map that allows users to add images to their brainstorming and collaborate with others. Users have access to a gallery of mind maps and can post comments. This site can be used for essesntial learning based on its multimedia capabilities. Mind42 is a better website than other mind maps that I have reviewd because of the extra support provided through the gallery of mind maps.

Education City - 1 views

  •
Education City is an interactive website that helps students develop skills within Reading/Language Arts, Math, and Science classrooms. This site provides support for these subject areas by incorporating educational games and interactive lessons for teachers. Teachers can first introduce or review a concept as a whole/small group activity using their interactive whiteboards. Then, students can complete individualized activities on the website, or they can complete worksheets printed off from the site. The website correlates with state standards and is a great tool to use as a Response to Intervention (RTI) programs because it allows the teacher to track individual students' progress in each subject area. Education City is a learner-centered application because it focuses on cognitive growth of individual students by allowing teachers to differentiate instruction and provide support for special needs students.

Interwrite Technologies - 0 views

This site provides the devices that I have access to that I would use to make a multimedia presentation to instruct how to use Photostory 3. The Interwrite hardware and software allows instructors to create lessons similar to Power Point but with the added ability to use the Interwrite School Pad to advance the presentation from anywhere in the room. The School Pad also allows for the instructor to annotate over the sides to highlight prominent features of Photostory. Interwrite is technology centered because the technology is driving the flow of instruction.

Holt Interactive Graphic Organizer - 2 views

  •
Holt Interactive Graphic Organizers This site has pre-made graphic organizers that students can fill in. There are different organizers for different types of brainstorming. This site would be best for lower elementary school students or for students who need more assistance (EIP or Sp. Ed.) The PDF document is easy to download and add text to the sections of the organizer. This site also allows for printing a hard copy or the ability to save the filled in GO to be shared later.

Brief description ...: This program allows the teacher to create a visual word cloud from a list of words or passages which helps to familiarize the learner with information that will be covered during the lesson or training session. As a generative process, the learners working memory is stimulated as it opens the senses for what is to come, during the presentation. Brief explanation ...: I like this site because it can be used to summarize documents like reports, speeches, and etc. into easily read word clouds. In addition, it makes important words bigger than other words.
  •
    * Brief description of Web site: A free tool that allows users to create online word clouds from sentences, whole documents, web addresses, or tables. After completing, these word clouds can be printed out. * Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found: Besides the fact that this is a free resource, it is very user friendly because it allows users to design their own word clouds as they would like (i.e. choose their layout, choose their own colors, fonts, sizes, etc.).
  •
Description: Allows users to create graphics style art with words. Words are randomly positioned where the more important words are made bigger. Explanation: This is a great tool for tool for users to create a cluster of words about a topic and use them the same way they might use a graphic. This was preferred to other programs because there is no registration required.

This website will be a good introduction or pre-training activity for teachers to see how the Interwrite tablet and Student Response Systems work in the classroom. This site will also provide teachers with a glimpse of how they can effectively use the the technology to present material and actively engage students in the lesson.

BrainPop - 5 views

This site is a great icebreaker to a new topic. It provides easy to understand basics on any topic that you might teach. I would encourage teachers to use the quiz program to assess what students already know at the start of the lesson.
  •

Flashcard Machine - 0 views

  •
Flashcard Machine can be used for essential learning by offering users the opportunity to create online pretraining artifacts. These flashcards can contain important vocabulary, names, formulae, etc. that can prepare learners for the upcoming lesson. I chose this tool because it is a reputable site and offers several features that can enhance the final product such as attached quizzes.
  •
A great way for students to pre-train on material and solidify essential learning. While these could be used for basic, generative learning depending upon the context of the flashcard, they are primarily for essential learning. This is a great site for this as it has applications available on iOS and Android so students can take it with them. Also, teachers can setup stacks for distribution, and students can create their own.

Tagxedo - 0 views

  •
Turns anything you want inot visually stunning tag cloud, words individually sized appropriately to highlight the frequencies of occurrence within the body of text. This was a great site, gave many options to upload from, also had gallery to choose the orientation of your word cloud. My participants can use this as a visual along with their videos they create.
  •
Tagxedo is a site that creates word clouds from user inputs. The site will convert a block of text to a word cloud, which can be transformed into a variety of shapes. Words that occur more frequently appear larger in the cloud. Teachers can use this for pre-training to present key terms. Based on the size of the words, learners can determine the key terms for the content they are learning, as well as important words associated with those key terms. The teacher can manipulate the text to place emphasis on the words of their choice. A feature of Tagxedo that distinguishes it from other sites is the feature that allows the user to upload an image and form the word cloud using she shape of that image. A teacher could use this possibility to further emphasize an important key term or concept. This site can be used for essential learning by providing learners with knowledge of key terms prior to the lesson, freeing important space in working memory for the processing of other information.
  •
    * Tagxedo is a great way to make "word clouds" from websites and different social networks in real-time by customizing the font, theme, color, orientation, and shape. Tagxedo is an excellent resource to use when introducing new content material, because of the ability to use Internet web addresses and other media that can be added to the word cloud.
    * I found Tagxedo to be better than other "word cloud" websites because it is effective at using paragraphs of text to highlight key vocabulary and has many options to create a better-finished product that can be transferred to other mediums.
