Twitter is an easy way to communicate with friends, co-workers, and other people. For us, as teachers, it is a great way to communicate with parents what is happening in the classroom!

Twitter has become a very popular site over the last 2 years. This site would be more appropriate for teachers and parents. Teachers could follow someone in the public eye that has importance to education, and parents can follow teachers. By "follow", I mean that if you "follow" someone, you receive updates from them to your phone and/or web. It is a great way to stay connected! Many times parents are curious as to what their children are doing/learning that moment, and teachers can express this through using Twitter.

After evaluating this site even more, there is not always a guarantee that a website that is posted to someone's update would work or be available. This could cause concern and frustration for a parent or student trying to stay in communication with a teacher through Twitter.

It would have limited use. Other avenues accomplish much the same thing.

This site seems like it would be useful for families to stay in touch if there is a serious illness. The idea seems solid. It's a good way to keep a family in contact when they may not be able to be in the hospital or visit the child all day everyday.

I have kept up with a friend who was in a serious car accident through CaringBridge. Her dad posted updates daily, so it was a great way to stay informed. The guest book was also good to send your thoughts and prayers to the family.

Photos Story 3 is a way to combine photos, voice recordings, music, and writing . Children can bring their favorite stories to life or create their own. By creating photo stories in the class or at home, these stories can be shared to many.

I actually downloaded this software recently. It was extremely easy to use and fun to play with. I created a couple of slideshows involving my siblings, and shared with my family via the email and they enjoyed it. I like how easy it is to share and how creative you can get with it. I feel that children could use this with some assistance, but they will be thrilled with the end result. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

Edublog is an online technology tool that was created by educators, intended for educational professionals. This tool is commonly used by teachers of all grades (preschool, k-12, college). Edublog is a free blogging tool that allows you to communicate in several different ways; this type of blogging has several features that are appealing to educators and students.

I believe other sites specific to young children blogging will serve our purposes better.

With this site you can create a face using various types of eyes, noses, lips, ears, eyebrows and hair. Once you have created a face you can manipulate it by scaling it up or down, rotating or flipping it. You also have the option to save your picture and email it to friends and family. Overall, I think this is a good site for children to explore creative technology. My biggest concerned was I could not find a statement on who the target audience was. For this reason be sure to carefully watch children when they are at this site.

I really liked and enjoyed this website! I liked the freedom to personalize the face I was creating. With the editing tools of color and scaling up and down, I was able to create numerous completely different faces. I think this activity could be great for older children and could let them explore all of the options online art sites can offer.

Families.com is a great website for parents and families. There is a lot of information on a variety of different topics. This site provides a discussion forum where members can post topics to gain advice or knowledge from other members. I recommend it as an easy way for parents to stay informed and connected with other parents.

Advice blogs and discussions on a variety of topics but not about technology.

This website would be useful for parents and families. Not only do they offer a plethora of blogs, there are message boards, as well as money saving ideas and coupons. This website offers a lot of support to parents or all different types of families. For example, you can sort the blogs you are reading, by selecting "Jewish Family", "Single Parent" or "Fatherhood" just to name a few. Members can comment on blogs and offer their opinions and support. The only thing I did not love about this site is that there are lots of advertisements.

This is a great site used to share pictures, videos, comments and favorite sites. Users can create their own album and homepage and send that link for their friends to view! You can also make personalized gifts from the pictures that you have posted up--a perfect holiday gift!

TotSpot integrates many aspects of technology together to create a Facebook-like network for parents and their child. The network is private and accessible to only account holders. Parents create an account then are able to add their children to the account on their own page. Pages can be shared through friend invite. The parents and children can upload pictures, videos, write journals, create developmental charts, and track milestones. Friends on the account can view items and make comments. With families living far apart and technology on the rise, families can keep track of their childrens' progress (even before birth!)

Snapfish has a really neat way where teachers and parents can communicate with each other by posting thier pictures to a secure room. It is a really great way for parents to share pictures of their vacations, outings, or fun adventures they experience with the class. There is also a way that parents can take their child's artwork and turn it into calendars, purses, etc.

All photos and students' work can be posted and published in one convenient room. This is a great way for teachers, parents, and students to get to know one another by sharing their photos, in a safe and secure room. There are also great tips and ideas for taking pictures, projects, and gifts.

Jooners is a free Web site focused on communication and collaboration between schools and parents. Its e-mail and scheduling Web site allows parents to have immediate online access to school-wide information, such as calendars, events, after-school programs and field trip information. Parents and teachers can arrange sign-up lists for any event that needs parental support, such as book fairs or PTA fundraisers, and coordinate classroom volunteers.

They sell stuff. Site is for moms to socialize. I don't see the emphasis of technology used with young children.

This website has many videos for teachers. These videos are easy to share with multiple people.

TeacherTube is a website for teachers and parents to visit to find videos on various topics. Users can search for video's based on subject and the video's are often rated on their quality.

TeacherTube is a site for teachers to upload instructional videos for other teachers to view or for home learners. Members of this site are encouraged to make constructive comments, as if they were in a classroom listening to a lesson or in a meeting listening to a proposal. I thought it would be an effective way to use this website in a child-life setting. For instance, if a child was very ill and was contained to a hospital room, he/she could prevent from getting far behind in school by watching his lessons being taught online. This is a site I would recommend to all teachers, and the best part - it's free!

HotChalk is a collaborative tool for teachers, parents and students. Teachers can access a free learning management system and curriculum tools. Also available is the ability to interact with students and parents regarding assignments and grades. Free resources include a learning management system, lesson plans, curriculum tools and forums to discuss topics with other teachers. Most resources on this website are free but some of the more advance and global setting are not (hotchalk.com)

Dabbleboard is an online whiteboard that allows users to visualize, explore, communicate, create, and share their work. Users can chose from two ways of drawing: freehand or computer-recognized shapes. Either way, users can create a multitude of pieces. Dabbleboard can be especially helpful for students. They can create flow charts, organizational charts, or mind maps to process school topics. As well, they can create comic strips, mark on uploaded pictures, or freehand drawings to accompany an original story. There is also a collaborative feature, that allows users to voice and video chate, share with or browse the public library, or send the link of their creation via the web. There are endless possibilities for students to express their creativity using Dabbleboard.

This can be a great graphic organizer to help students study for tests and communicate while doing projects.

Tikatok is a website where you can create your own book using your own pictures scanned into the computer. You can order a copy of your completed book so that you can have a hard copy of what you or your children have created. This is a great tool for teachers or parents to inspire a child's imagination to create a story with both words and pictures.

I really like this site and would definitely use it if I had children. It makes it so easy to make a story and actually get a hard copy of it. I reviewed Storybird, which is another site that allows you to create stories, but it doesn't have the option of ordering it. I think this is a step up from Storybird!
