AMP!: Is Yahoo! Breaking Up the Advertising Atom? - ReadWriteWeb - 0 views

  •
he latest punch thrown in Yahoo!'s fight to stay relevant and avoid a take over by Microsoft is their unveiling of their new ad management software, named AMP!, which will ship this summer. Though pay-per-click text ads remain Google's (and thus the online ad industry's) bread and butter, there has been a lot of movement around online display advertising over the past year, an area which Yahoo! is currently top dog. Since the beginning of 2007, Microsoft bought aQuantive for $6 billion, Google acquired DoubleClick for $3.1 billion, AOL built up its Platform A with acquisitions of Tacoda, and Quigo, WPP spent $649 million to purchase 24/7 Real Media, and Yahoo! itself paid $680 million for Right Media. And now with AMP!, is Yahoo! actually opening up their ad silo?

The Double-Bottom Line on In-Text Ads - 0 views

You may have noticed double underlined links on sites that create a pop up advertisement when moused over. These are "in-text" advertisements, and they're increasingly appearing on content sites to generate additional revenue.

apophenia: Who clicks on ads? And what might this mean? - 0 views

  •
Advertising is the bread and butter of the web, yet most of my friends claim that they never click on ads, typically using a peacock tone that signals their pride in being ad-averse. The geekier amongst them go out of their way to run Mozilla scripts to scrape ads away, bemoaning the presence of consumer culture. Yet, companies increasingly rely on ad revenue to turn a profit and, while clicking on ads ?may? be declining, it certainly hasn't gone away. This raises a critical question: Who are the people that click on ads?

Stop Google Analytics From Stealing Your Valuable AdWords Keyword Data | Get Elastic - 0 views

  •
Are you a Google AdWords advertiser using Google Analytics? STOP! You MUST read this post because you are losing money daily and we are going to help you stop the bleeding. There is a problem with the default functionality of Google Analytics when used in conjunction with AdWords. Google Analytics (GA) doesn't report the actual phrase a shopper entered into the search bar, only the keyword phrase you are bidding on.

Neuromarketing » The Power of FREE! - 0 views

  •
A few days ago, I wrote about the power of the word "New" to get our attention - if there's a more potent attractor out there, it's almost certainly "FREE!" For years, advertising gurus have listed "free" on every compilation of powerful headline words. Now, research conducted by Dan Ariely (a Duke behavioral economist, previously at MIT) shows us that "free" is far more effective than "almost free." Indeed, a preference for "free" seems to be another feature hardwired into our brains.

Exact Keyword Tracking with ga.js: Unofficial Google Analytics Blog - 0 views

  •
Last April, I posted a script that allowed paid search advertisers to view the exact search queries of their visitors. This was essentially a free tool that gave website owners the ability to weed out ineffective keywords and put more money toward the precise phrases that were really driving their business. Google Analytics doesn't do this out of the box. It will tell you exact search queries for visits from organic listings, but for paid search, you're stuck with the keywords that you're bidding on. With broad and phrase matching, these could vary pretty drastically from what the visitors typed into the search engine.

Chief Marketing Technologist by Scott Brinker: Marketing as a science, but science is a... - 0 views

  •
Most of marketing is now measurable, directly or indirectly. With digitally produced and distributed marketing - particularly channels such as search engine marketing, online advertising, email marketing, post-click marketing, and web site optimization - it's often practical to test dozens or hundreds of ideas within a short time. So if you have more than one competing suggestion for "what will work best", the solution is "test them and let's find out". The answer is quantifiable, not emotional.

Giraffe Forum » What the Web is really good for - 0 views

  • Much of what we understand as marketing and advertising has been about selling products like chocolate caramels. It’s about emotion, association, and a happy, wonderful, smiling feel-good factor. Marketers and advertisers know that for many products and services people prefer to remain ‘blissfully ignorant.’ The Web is a very different world; a very different form of marketing and communication. Those who wish to remain blissfully ignorant do not go to the Web. You do not search for a subject on Google if you wish to remain blissfully ignorant. You go to the Web to know. Customers don’t arrive at your website to know less. They want to know more.

The Web helps us make better decisions based on us doing often very detailed research. But certain decisions don't require any research at all.

Tagging URLs for Better Tracking in Google Analytics | Practical eCommerce - 0 views

  •
If you use Google Analytics, you have likely experienced its value in understanding your shoppers and how they interact with your site. But there are deeper levels of understanding to attain. If you start tuning the data you feed to Google Analytics by "tagging" your URLs, you can generate reports of your advertising campaigns and traffic sources, and therefore gain even more meaningful insights.

Neuromarketing » Emotional Ads Work Best - 0 views

  •
The idea that ads that engage us emotionally work better than those that don't might provoke a, "Well, duhhh!" reaction from Neuromarketing readers. Surprisingly, though, I still encounter business executives who don't believe they are swayed by emotional factors when buying things, and often doubt that others are either. So, for those uber-rational decision-makers, here's the hard data…

Marketing in the semantic web - Chief Marketing Technologist - 0 views

  •
What should be the role of marketing in the semantic web? Should there be any? According to the W3C, the semantic web is about common data formats that make it easy to integrate and combine data from diverse sources. It's about mapping ideas expressed in human language to data in a way that facilitates automatic processing, where software can programmatically comprehend how different pieces of data are related. It's a web behind the web of animated banner ads and branded UI designs.
