Some people use the words pervasive and ubiquitous as synonyms. The truth is that there is a slight difference in these terms and I’ve known it for a while now. However, I haven’t been able to explain it in words properly until today. I’ve been reading quite much papers from Hiroaki Ogata and his team who have developed various ubiquitous learning tools. The following diagram by Ogata et al explains the difference between various learning environments in terms of embeddedness and mobility.
