A very interesting site where you can add speech bubbles into videos from a range of sites such as YouTube, Google Video etc This could be wonderful for digital storytelling!
This is backed by McGraw Hill -- I think it is their way of getting free info to create online texts....it's a place where students get paid to upload their notes (i.e. boiled down teacher lectures). A very clever stategy, but there is something about it that doesn't sit well.... I am wondering what ownership rights you give up when you upload notes? This would make an interesting blog post if explored more.
As the popularity of taking classes at home grows, you might stop to wonder, what's the difference? What are the advantages of pursuing an MBA program online versus in a classroom?
Tony Wagner, from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, lists assessing and analyzing information as one of the seven survival skills in the new world of work. I think the ability to create a PLN is a fundamental information-management skill that will help my students succeed in the future.
An RSS reader is a Web site that puts together all this information in an easy-to-read format. Google Reader, netvibes, Pageflakes, Bloglines, and my preferred reader, iGoogle, are all examples of sites providing RSS readers. The RSS reader is the raw material for building a PLN.
With PLNs, we can now empower the personalized learning we've been longing to bring to education.
I'm thrilled that my students know how to connect efficiently to great sources of information and can now construct an environment that will make them lifelong learners. And, truly, creating a self-directed learner is the pinnacle of educational achievement.
There was a time when books, newspapers, magazines and journals were the prime source of content and information. It was always your move! navigating the authority maze, enjoying slow reading of (limited) information sources in order to gain a knowledge base that matched a particular curriculum outline.
This was when content was king and the teacher was the sage on the stage.
Now communication is the new curriculum, and content is but grist to the mill that churns new knowledge. Why? I came across a few good reads this week that set me thinking and wondering about the changes that we must support in our teaching and in our library services.
There is one single factor that will ultimately enrich your life with happiness or riddle it misery regardless of how much money you have, how wonderful your relationships are or fulfilled you may feel.......and that one factor is your ability to think positive.
A wonderful idea - barcode to which you can add videos, resumes, pictures, anything you wish to show others. IPhones and Androids can download the free software to use for thisl

my inner worrywart wonders whether the new technologies overtaking us may be eroding characteristics that are essentially human: our ability to reflect, our pursuit of meaning, genuine empathy, a sense of community connected by something deeper than snark or political affinity.
“The generation that had information, but no context. Butter, but no bread. Craving, but no longing.”
before we succumb to digital idolatry, we should consider that innovation often comes at a price. And sometimes I wonder if the price is a piece of ourselves.
"Last week my wife and I told our 13-year-old daughter she could join Facebook. Within a few hours she had accumulated 171 friends, and I felt a little as if I had passed my child a pipe of crystal meth."
