"Confluence Project is a collaborative effort of Pacific Northwest tribes, renowned artist Maya Lin, civic groups from Washington and Oregon and other artists, architects and landscape designers. The project stretches more than 300 miles from where the Columbia River flows into the Pacific Ocean, to Clarkston, WA, with sites in both Oregon and Washington. Each of its seven sites features an art installation by Ms. Lin that interprets the area's ecology and history, encouraging the visitor to reflect on how the surroundings have changed over time. Each references a passage from the Lewis and Clark journals."

PicLab HD is a nifty app for creating those inspiring images that you get all over the internet these days. You know, the ones featuring a photo - probably with at least one retro filter applied - with a helpful aphorism layered over the top in an attractive, friendly typeface. Yeah, those. PicLab HD makes them an absolute doddle, enabling you to either snap a photo or grab one from your photo library, then go to town on it. As well as adding typography - lots of fonts and full control over size, positioning, opacity, rotation, and colour - you can also layer illustrations, ornamentation and other design elements on top of your image. This is programs is mainly designed as summer and after school programs about science here in Eugene, Oregon. Not only does it teach kids about science and nature but it combines that with art projects such as taking plants and other objects from the forest and creating sculptures out of them. It is a great example of not only art education but the interrelations involved in arts as well.

Thingiverse is a repository of 3D models, usually intended for 3D printing, that are completely free to download and print if you have a 3D printer. In daily life, if you don't know how to 3D model but need a household object like a door hook, you can search "door hook" and 3D print it out instead of buying one. Any 3D designer or artist can upload their file for everyone to access.

Portland Fashion Week showcases local designers and retailers in juried runway shows with live music at the Oregon Convention Center and satellite locations. Repeats in Sept.
