CAN: Creative Advocacy Network - 0 views

  •
"For decades, arts leaders and elected officials worked to increase Portland's creative capacity with the understanding that the arts shape neighborhoods, improve K-12 education, boost economic development and enhance livability. In 2008, a region-wide Creative Action Plan prioritized the need for a new dedicated funding stream for arts and arts education. The Creative Advocacy Network (CAN) was established as an independent 501(c)3 organization to develop and advocate for this proposed new public fund for the arts. And in 2012 CAN successfully established the $12.2 Million annual Arts Education and Access Fund."

Atlas of Rural Arts and Culture :: Community | PlaceStories - 0 views

  •
"This Rural Arts and Culture Map presents new perspectives from rural America, with a focus on rural youth, rural-urban exchange, and a sustaining interest in the changing face of rural America, including the next generation, and their membership in diverse ethnic and cultural communities. Most importantly, this community is driven not by any single organization, but by the people themselves. With opportunities to share video, audio, photography, and text, we give full agency to an audience ready to become active participants in a mission to create new rural narratives. We hope this map will become a manifestation of direct, local experience; a digital tool that transcends itself; a meeting point for conversation and shared ground; and a foundation through which to unite and motivate rural citizens across the country."

Found Objects - independent film - 2 views

  •
About Found Objects Claire Randall, shadow box artist and wife and mother of three, must choose between her old traditional family life or a new creative life made possible by her family's house fire and her new living arrangement: a motel. Watch the trailer. http://foundobjectsfilm.com/about/found-objects-movie-trailer/
  •
This was an absolutely incredible experience. Watching the trailer opened my eyes to how a fire could affect a family and the emotions from the film really hit me hard especially when they were searching through the rubble trying to find things to salvage and the look on their faces. I found it interesting that she was finding herself and creativeness through the shadow boxes after the fire "freed" her from the duties of being domestic wife. It also illustrates the struggles a family if one wants to have a creative, art filled life and still lead a traditional family life. I cannot wait to watch the entire movie when it comes out. For me the film raises the questions: do we really need a traditional family in this day and age to feel complete and how does our relationships affect the "true" you?

The most dynamic creative economy report available today, the CVI™ provides an annual measure of the health and creative vitality of the arts in a specific area. The CVI™ augments the efforts of arts agency leadership and advocates in building strategy and creating policy to strengthen creative sectors or in response to a deficiency. This tool goes far beyond traditional economic impact studies to include annual comparative data about commercial and non-profit creative enterprises and occupations, as well as consumer spending in key creative sectors. As part of WESTAF's commitment to the ongoing enhancement to the CVI™, all CVI™ data will soon be offered in an online format via CVI™ Data on Demand™, a new web tool that allows users to log in and access a variety of reports and combinations of data packaged to your preference--on the fly."

Works Progress Administration - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  •
"The Works Progress Administration (renamed in 1939 as the Work Projects Administration; WPA) was the largest and most ambitious New Deal agency, employing millions of unemployed people (mostly unskilled men) to carry out public works projects,[1] including the construction of public buildings and roads. In a much smaller but more famous project, the Federal Project Number One, the WPA employed musicians, artists, writers, actors and directors in large arts, drama, media, and literacy projects."

The Boreal: a new all-ages music/art venue in Eugene - 1 views

  •
The Boreal is a venue I'm volunteering with in an effort to bring more underground music to Eugene. It's located on W. 3rd Ave, between REI and the new skatepark. If you'd like to book a show or art event, of any genre or style, feel free to get in touch with us!
  •
Oh also, a note on booking shows -- for the best chance of a successful booking, it's best to have a show already lined up, so like 3-4 bands who are ready to play. It's also best to plan it at least a month in advance. Shows can be done on shorter notice, but there's a much better chance if there aren't many shows planned in the month you want your event to be.

The End Of An Era For Waikiki - 0 views

  •
This link is an article about the decision to close down the International Market place in the heart of downtown Waikiki, O'ahu, and transforming the space into a high end retail, Sak's Fifth. Being a frequent visitor to the islands, I find this news pretty sad. I have visited the International market every time I have been downtown to Waikiki because of how unique everything was. There were tons of kiosks with hand-made and high quality products and you could bargain with the owners. It really was a fun experience and allowed for a bunch of people to display and sell their distinct art. "The start of the new year marked the end of an era in Honolulu. By the time you read this the International Market Place, the last truly open green space for commerce in the heart of Waikiki, will be closed for good. It will be replaced by a ..."

The news has demonstrated the 3D-future sense of the design for the house. The angle of the house on the roof and the way how the house get designed was kind of sense of modern.
