It was adopted because the international community signalled the urgency for the implementation of international law that would recognise: The distinctive nature of cultural goods, services and activities as vehicles of identity, values and meaning; That while cultural goods, services and activities have important economic value, they are not mere commodities or consumer goods that can only be regarded as objects of trade.

This link is an article about the decision to close down the International Market place in the heart of downtown Waikiki, O'ahu, and transforming the space into a high end retail, Sak's Fifth. Being a frequent visitor to the islands, I find this news pretty sad. I have visited the International market every time I have been downtown to Waikiki because of how unique everything was. There were tons of kiosks with hand-made and high quality products and you could bargain with the owners. CINEMA PACIFIC is a collaborative effort between the University of Oregon and the Eugene community. Faerieworlds is an annual music and arts festival currently held annually in Oregon. The festival's theme is fairy world. The 2012 festival took place on July 27-29 at Mount Pisgah in Eugene, Oregon. The Hult Center for the Performing Arts is a performing arts venue in Eugene, Oregon that hosts more than 700 events and activities a year and acommodating local, national, and international art and performance groups. Located in the vibrant downtown community on Willamette Street between 6th & 7th Avenues, adjacent to the Hilton Eugene and Conference Center.

The Hult Center is a great organization! An event/concert called the, "Bohemian Dub Ball," showcasing art as well as music by RJD2, Medium Troy, Eskimo, and other local performers on May 10 will be held at the Hult Center! The event will have student and community involvement. A great way to enjoy a Saturday night and be exposed to a wide range of creative sectors.

This is a really great event! I went last year with some friends and had a blast! If anybody is in the area I would highly recommend going.

The Richmond Night Market is a Asian influenced market and one of the biggest in North America. I visited this market this past weekend while visiting cousins in Vancouver and got enriched in so much culture. Booths were filled with different cultural foods as well as arts. There was also a carnival area as well as a concert stage for different local bands to perform. It goes on all summer long so if your ever in Canada make sure to check this out!
