I was recently informed by a friend of this film festival going on this coming weekend, April 10-13! The DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon returns April 10th, 11th, 12th & 13th, 2014 to the Bijou Art Cinemas in Eugene, Oregon. DisOrient is a social justice film festival dedicated to deconstructing the media stereotypes of Asians and Asian Americans as "Orientals". We believe in the power of film-as-art to educate, heal and improve the lives of people by giving voice to our experiences.

Climbers, filmmakers, writers, and photographers from all over the world now recognize Banff as the key event in their mountain community; sharing stories with fellow mountaineers and armchair adventurers alike is a coveted privilege. At the very core of the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival is the Film Competition.

This was an absolutely incredible experience. Watching the trailer opened my eyes to how a fire could affect a family and the emotions from the film really hit me hard especially when they were searching through the rubble trying to find things to salvage and the look on their faces. I found it interesting that she was finding herself and creativeness through the shadow boxes after the fire "freed" her from the duties of being domestic wife. It also illustrates the struggles a family if one wants to have a creative, art filled life and still lead a traditional family life. I cannot wait to watch the entire movie when it comes out. For me the film raises the questions: do we really need a traditional family in this day and age to feel complete and how does our relationships affect the "true" you?

This year's event includes 50 new films from around the globe, with over 70 visiting filmmakers and guests speakers who will delve into the world's most urgent environmental issues and most innovative solutions.

This is a really great event! I went last year with some friends and had a blast! If anybody is in the area I would highly recommend going.

One of the many museums within the SD Balboa Park area, this venue used photography to capture some of the most powerful pictures.

What gorgeous imagery! It was hard to believe that these images aren't digital, but from film. The colors and textures are stunning. As a mixed-media photographic artist, I found Fayman's work particularly fascinating. Thank you for posting.

Trevor Noah is the favorite South African comedian who has sold more DVDs than any other standup on that continent. Fans recite his performances verbatim, share his clips globally, and have joined him in legions on Facebook and Twitter. Noah has hosted numerous television shows in South Africa, including the country's music, television and film awards, the South African Comedy Festival, and two seasons of his own late night talk show. He is also the subject of David Paul Meyer's award-winning documentary film You Laugh But It's True which tells the story of Trevor's remarkable career in post-apartheid South Africa.

Krowji is Cornwall's biggest creative sector cluster, providing studios, workspaces, offices, the Melting Pot Cafe, meeting rooms and other facilities for a wide range of creative businesses at the Old Grammar School buildings in Redruth. It's home to a vibrant creative community which currently includes painters, jewellers, furniture makers, ceramicists, textile artists, web designers, theatre companies and musicians as well as several of Cornwall's key sector agencies such as Creative Skills, FEAST, Carn to Cove and Cornwall Film Festival.

CINEMA PACIFIC is a collaborative effort between the University of Oregon and the Eugene community. Administered by graduate students in the UO Arts and Administration Program, who work alongside undergraduate interns, CINEMA PACIFIC utilizes venues across campus and Eugene for a five-day festival of screenings, live multimedia performances, and art exhibitions.

PicLab HD is a nifty app for creating those inspiring images that you get all over the internet these days. You know, the ones featuring a photo - probably with at least one retro filter applied - with a helpful aphorism layered over the top in an attractive, friendly typeface. Yeah, those. PicLab HD makes them an absolute doddle, enabling you to either snap a photo or grab one from your photo library, then go to town on it. As well as adding typography - lots of fonts and full control over size, positioning, opacity, rotation, and colour - you can also layer illustrations, ornamentation and other design elements on top of your image. PicLab HD features full layer-based editing and also packs plenty of tools for making your original photo look its best, with loads of lighting and film effects to choose from as well as preset photo filters and adjustment tools for fine tuning the brightness, contrast, exposure, saturation, and the blur level of your photos.

You will get a chance to meet with the directors or actors from the movies at the festival.
