Ajax Blog » Diigo To Launch WebSlides At TechCrunch40 - 0 views

  • Diigo To Launch WebSlides At TechCrunch40 Posted in Ajax News by Duncan Riley on the September 14th, 2007 Research megatool Diigo will officially announce its new WebSlides for RSS feeds and Bookmarks feature at TechCrunch40 next week. The new widget is an embeddable player that presents feeds or bookmarks as live web pages in an interactive slideshow format, complete with the full content, pages, links, comments, and ads. The widget can be sent to friends and colleagues and also placed on websites, blogs and in social networks. Each slide that is displayed actually registers as a page view for the content owner. Webslides also allows any Diigo user to annotate each page on the fly with sticky notes to share thoughts or to highlight important sections. Viewers can also bookmark, tag, share, and clip content from the pages in WebSlides for future reference in their own Diigo online folders. To use WebSlides, users enter a feed or list of bookmarks and add background music or voice narration. By clicking “Play,” the list transforms into a slideshow. There’s a lot of competition in this space, but having looked at the product I can see why Diigo qualified for the demo pit at TC40. A widget that includes full content including advertising is a good thing for publishers, and it’s the first slide/ widget I’ve seen that does this. Combined with Diigo’s research capabilities it makes for a great product. Video demonstration is below.

Tech Tips to Save a Few Trees « Georgia Library Media Association - 0 views

  • 3. Diigo (www.diigo.com). I’m just beginning to use this tool and don’t understand it thoroughly yet. It’s a social networking tool, but more so for my purposes it’s a way to highlight and annotate web pages and save them for future reference. You can simply read a web page and highlight interesting points, or you can also attach “sticky notes” to help you remember what you thought as you were reading it. You can make your work private or share it with the world - your choice. I’ve been hearing buzz about other ways to use Diigo, like for bookmarking. For me, though, I see two primary uses. One is for my personal scholarship. My job requires me to read a great deal, and more and more of the material is online. To avoid printing reams of articles and then having the problem of where to store them, I can use Diigo as a storage and organization system for my personal library. A second use is for evaluation. My job also requires me to evaluate student work that often takes the form of web pages. (I’ve become quite addicted to Word’s powerful annotation features for assignments submitted in that format.) With Diigo, I can comment upon their work directly on the page and then share the feedback with the student privately. So far, the best way to do this seems to be to set up a group of two, but there may be better ways. You can also have Diigo collect your annotations and send them to a “Friend.” Think about the stacks of paper this process saves.

Diigo: Cures the Bookmarking Blues - 1 views

  • What does this tool do: It is (still) most valuable as a tool to save and organize your bookmarks, so you will never lose or forget a saved-site again. But the latest upgrade adds much greater depth to previous versions.
  • To call Diigo just a bookmark organizer is like calling Ella just a singer. But the truth is that your first and most obvious value will come from Diigo’s ability to store and search out your lost bookmarks like no other free program available. You can also highlight and file short sentences within a URL without saving the entire site. Plus you can search text as well as tags and easily forward your best links on to your friends. If you want additional layers of social networking, note taking, and added research ability, this tool satisfies. But you should plan on a gradual ramp up to proficiency. In order to take full advantage of Diigo, it will take some effort to make it sing for you…but in the meantime, it can sure hum.

Around the Corner - MGuhlin.net : Diigo - Invasion of the Bookmark Snatchers - 0 views

  • Somehow, I find myself trusting Diigo more than Facebook, although you can connect to Facebook via Diigo. What's also present is the potential for "Diigo-spam." Ok, I've spammed everyone in my addressbook. I can't remember the last time I did it, but I hope that if you received an email via Diigo from me, you'll jump in and give this a try. If you don't want to, hit delete. Do I think Diigo is that powerful a tool? Well, yes. It offers something Delicious doesn't--groups, and a base of operations that interfaces with other tools. If I could share information using Diigo, ohmygosh, one ring to rule them all. One of the other aspects of Diigo I liked was that the Diigo crew is hopping to improve things. Importing bookmarks from Delicious API wasn't working well (i had to try 3-4 times), so they came up with an alternative way to accomplish the import. Dean Shareski complained about the interface, and they re-did the user interface. There's also talk of creating an education (student) friendly Diigo....
  • Easy group subscription - I wish there was a URL I could share with people. They click on it, and bam, if they have a Diigo account, they're subscribed. If they lack an account, it walks them through the process then makes sure to hook them up with the group. I just don't see how to do it easily now.
  • Everywhere I turn, people are joining Diigo, forsaking the simplicity of Delicious for the social nature of Diigo, which offers a variety of ways to connect with others--highlight text, then save it to your bookmarks, post to your blog, send it out as a tweet, and share it with a group of like-minded educators. The power of the network...comes alive in a way that removes the onus of commercialism so prevalent in Facebook.

Digital Passports » Have you joined the DEN Diigo group? Facebook Group? LinkedIn Group? - 0 views

  • Diigo is a social bookmarking site that is really giving the current champion, del.icio.us, a run for its money. It does everything that del.icio.us does (including simul-posting to your current del.icio.us account!) and so much more. From highlighting on a page, to adding sticky notes, to sharing bookmarks with groups, it really turns websurfing from a passive experience to a highly active one. Jennifer Dorman created the DEN group in Diigo a little over a week ago and there’s already over 50 members!

C&I 401 - Week 2: Delicious & Diigo « Cycling Through Ed Tech - 0 views

  • I’m going to introduce Delicious and Diigo - they are now best friends and quite closely linked.
  • Another tool to help save websites is Diigo. What I like about Diigo is all the functions it offers. For instance, if I see a site I’d like to send to you I can highlight portions and even add a note (like a Post-it), then I can email it to you. Very cool. I also like the social networking tools - you can create groups and then leave messages for one another. It’s much like Facebook or MySpace interactivity. By the way, if you have a Delicious account, then you can set Diigo up to send all your newly saved sites to Delicious - they work well together.

Recruiting and Sourcing Secrets: TOP 10 WAYS TO SOURCING / RECRUITING - FREELY - 0 views

  • TOP TEN WAYS TO SOURCING / RECRUITING - FREELY 1) DiigoStop adding your favorite links to your browsers.. thats soooo archaic. From the words of my friend Michael Marlatt " With the massive amount of information available or for surfing the web, sourcing for resumes or conducting competitive intelligence, the question is: How do you capture all this wonderful data, create online sticky-notes (reminders), keep it all organized, easily retrievable, simultaneously share (real-time) content with peers or an entire community, and oh by the way do this without your personal computer from anywhere in the world? One answer: Diigo. By accessing ANY available computer, Diigo can offer its users all this functionality and much more. Yeah, I suppose someone out there could quickly argue that there are easily hundreds of other book-marking sites, online clipping services, etc. that offer similar functionality-right? That’s true to some extent; however, you will not find one that currently offers the full suite of solutions and rich functionality that Diigo offers and is still (free).  Or, you might say, there's always book-marking favorites in your browser (old-school) and creating "bookmarklets" so why use Diigo? Hey, let’s be honest, setting up bookmarklets are helpful but the on-going filing and maintenance can be exhaustive especially if you have 100's (if not 1000's) of favorite sites stored in your browser.Diigo will simply your web surfing, data collection, content management, and group-collaboration experience in a way that no other social bookmarking application can right now. " I need not say anymore.

Family Matters » Blog Archive » Diigo on Facebook - 1 views

  • As the genealogy community on Facebook develops, we are seeing many ways this platform can support us beyond the obvious socializing and networking features. One Facebook tool we can all use is the Diigo application. If you’re not familiar with Diigo, it’s an online bookmarking system that allows you to bookmark your favorite sites and pages with tags for quick retrieval, highlights to focus on the content you find useful, notes to add to the content and the ability to share with others. I’m just touching the surface of Diigo’s usefulness - as you’ll see in the further reading section below. The Diigo application on Facebook only displays bookmarks - yours and your Diigo friends. You will see the bookmark information including any notes or highlighted text associated with the bookmark by clicking the Expand link. Following any of the bookmark’s links will take you out of Facebook. If you click on one of a bookmark’s tags, it will take you to your bookmarks tagged with that tag at the Diigo site.

There are several ways to display content: through pagination, infinite scrolling, or a load more button. Let us look at how user experience design services use these methods and their pros and cons.
