Once the transition to the new forum is completed, what will happen to the old Diigo forum?

There are many posts in this forum and it would be a waste of useful information if this forum was deleted completely. I think it can still serve as sort of a knowledge base (although, admittedly, its accessibility could be better but this will change now with the new forum).

Funny thing :-) I made the same mistake at first, too. I had not noticed that "Basic Information" and "Interest & Personality" need to be saved separately. I did notice the two buttons but did not notice that I need to click each of them if I made changes in each section. I agree it would be more convenient to have one button that saves everything.

    Hi John,

I checked several of my bookmarks and I was able to find one bookmark
that showed the problem you described. It does not seem to be a problem
with all web pages. I am not sure which (sort of) web pages are
    affected.

Could you list some of your web pages/bookmarks that have this problem (of course, only unless you would rather like to keep them private)?

    Here is my example:
    http://www.diigo.com/cached?url=http://chandler.osafoundation.org

The cache page says: "Cache page didn't exist. Please Click the
following link to visit original page.

Opera diigolet - highlight problems - 577 views

highlight opera Diigolet help

Lars, I can reproduce your problem with both the Diigolet and the Diigo toolbar. So, it is obviously not restricted to the Diigolet.
I have never noticed this problem before because my highlights have always been longer and never occurred more than once in the texts.

However, it is not always the very first appearance of a marked word/text passage but the first appearance within text sections/paragraphs (the borders of which may be URL code related, I don't know).

    Here are some examples:
    1) http://www.hipcal.com Within the sentence "you can continue to use your HipCal calendar", highlight the word "HipCal". As a result, the word "HipCal" will be highlighted within the heading "Important update from the HipCal team".
    2) http://www.grisoft.com/ Within the second paragraph of "News", highlight the word "Security". As a result, the word "Security" will be highlighted within the heading "AVG Internet Security Now Fully Protects Windows Vista". However, this is not the very first appearance of "Security", which you can find before under "Why AVG".
    3) http://www.diigo.com Highlight the word "webpage" within the sentence "Interact on any webpage!". As a result, the word "webpage" will be highlighted within the sentence "Write on any webpage!" one line above.

BTW, I think it is always a good idea to give some specific examples when describing a problem/bug. This makes it easier for the people at Diigo to reproduce, locate and solve the problem.

    Very interesting post, eyalnow.

I absolutely agree that Diigo is not only for researchers in its narrow sense but for anyone looking for information on the Web and wanting to archive and access this information in an easy way. After all, the dictionary lists "search for knowledge" as one of one its defintions of "research".

Import other bookmarks as public, private and ...? - 60 views

bookmark import
  • Oliver S.

Diigo supports importing bookmarks from many other online bookmarking services. I noticed that now there is an option called "Import to diigo as", which allows to select "Public", "Private" and "[name of the service]".

For example, I can import my bookmarks from del.icio.us as public, private and "Delicious".

I first thought that this option might preserve the privacy settings from the other bookmarking service so that a bookmark set to "Do not share" in del.icio.us would become a private bookmark in Diigo. But that was not the case. Actually, I couldn't find any difference to importing as public.

So, what exactly is this third option for?

I think "Duplicate privacy settings as in del.icio.us" or "Copy privacy settings from del.icio.us" would be pretty clear. Or are there any other settings that are transferred?

Anyway, I have to correct myself. The third option does work as I expected. The problem was del.icio.us, which didn't save my changes regarding the privacy settings when I did the testing (so, everything remained public even though I changed some bookmarks to "Do not share"=private). This was a browser-specific problem with del.icio.us, not a problem with Diigo.

I tested this del.icio.us toolbar/sidebar that you mentioned. I assume it loads the tags and the bookmarks titles into some local cache directory, because it is possible to browse for bookmarks and tags even when being offline and after closing and restarting Firefox. It must be some other cache than the Firefox cache because deleting the Firefox cache did not remove the data. Being online is required for making any changes to the bookmarks or just for looking at the bookmark properties.

An online solution can never be as fast as a local solution. Here they created a mix of both. Having worked with both del.icio.us and Diigo, I have to say that Diigo's Web interface is definitely faster than del.icio.us' Web interface. I guess this is why del.icio.us created this part online part offline solution.

There is a typo in this category name.

It reads "Bug Reportiing" instead of "Bug Reporting".
