Import other bookmarks as public, private and ...? - 60 views

Diigo supports importing bookmarks from many other online bookmarking services. I noticed that now there is an option called "Import to diigo as", which allows to select "Public", "Private" and "[name of the service]".

For example, I can import my bookmarks from del.icio.us as public, private and "Delicious".

I first thought that this option might preserve the privacy settings from the other bookmarking service so that a bookmark set to "Do not share" in del.icio.us would become a private bookmark in Diigo. But that was not the case. Actually, I couldn't find any difference to importing as public.

So, what exactly is this third option for?

Glad that you point it out and think we should put up a better description for the 3rd option.

Basically here is how the 3rd option works: if you have 2 bookmark in del.icio.us, 1 is public, and the other is private. Then, after importing, you also get 1 public 1 private in Diigo.

    Maybe the description should be:

Import to Diigo as: a) All Public, b) All Private c) Duplicate all setting as del.icio.us

The description for c) is still somewhat awkward. Anyone with good suggestion to shorten it and make it pretty clear? Thanks

I think "Duplicate privacy settings as in del.icio.us" or "Copy privacy settings from del.icio.us" would be pretty clear. Or are there any other settings that are transferred?

Anyway, I have to correct myself. The third option does work as I expected. The problem was del.icio.us, which didn't save my changes regarding the privacy settings when I did the testing (so, everything remained public even though I changed some bookmarks to "Do not share"=private). This was a browser-specific problem with del.icio.us, not a problem with Diigo.

    suggested descriptions:
    1. "Import del.icio.us privacy settings" or
    2. "preserve del.icio.us privacy settings"

I think this should be the default.

I like the wording "preserve". Also, setting (3) as default is also good.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
