A game about AI making paperclips is the most addictive you'll play today - The Verge - 0 views

  •
There's a well-known thought experiment in the world of artificial intelligence that poses a simple, but potentially very scary, question: what if we asked a super-intelligent AI to make paperclips? This may not sound terrifying at first, but as Oxford philosopher Nick Bostrom (who first described the parable) explains, it all depends on how well we've trained the AI. If we've given it common sense, it might ask us: "How many paperclips do you want?" If it doesn't know to ask, it might just make paperclips forever. And, if it's a super-intelligent AI that we've accidentally forgotten to program with any human ethics or values, it might decide that the most efficient way to make paperclips is to wipe out humanity and terraform the planet into one giant paperclip-making factory.

Computing At School - 0 views

  •
This curriculum, produced by a working party within CAS, describes in concrete terms what a Computing curriculum at school might look like. It uses the same structure as the National Curriculum Programmes of Study: importance of the discipline; key concepts; key processes; range and content; and level descriptors. It is not cast in stone, so please send feedback. In particular, it is intended to be comprehensible to school teachers (so please tell us if it isn't).

This is when experts think we'll build a truly intelligent AI - The Verge - 0 views

  •
At the heart of the discipline of artificial intelligence is the idea that one day we'll be able to build a machine that's as smart as a human. Such a system is often referred to as an artificial general intelligence, or AGI, which is a name that distinguishes the concept from the broader field of study. It also makes it clear that true AI possesses intelligence that is both broad and adaptable. To date, we've built countless systems that are superhuman at specific tasks, but none that can match a rat when it comes to general brain power.

Digital Competence Framework for Educators (DigCompEdu) | EU Science Hub - 0 views

  •
"The teaching professions face rapidly changing demands, which require a new, broader and more sophisticated set of competences than before. The ubiquity of digital devices and applications, in particular, requires educators to develop their digital competence. The European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu) is a scientifically sound framework describing what it means for educators to be digitally competent. It provides a general reference frame to support the development of educator-specific digital competences in Europe. DigCompEdu is directed towards educators at all levels of education, from early childhood to higher and adult education, including general and vocational education and training, special needs education, and non-formal learning contexts."

Computational Thinking for Educators - - Unit 1 - Introducing Computational Thinking - 0 views

  •
Computational Thinking (CT) is a problem solving process that includes a number of characteristics and dispositions. CT is essential to the development of computer applications, but it can also be used to support problem solving across all disciplines, including the humanities, math, and science. Students who learn CT across the curriculum can begin to see a relationship between academic subjects, as well as between life inside and outside of the classroom."

The web was designed to make it possible for information - data - to transfer conveniently no matter where you are or what device you are using. Today data is used as a bargaining chip to lock you in. Solid is a standard that describes how to build storage, apps, and identification in such a way that you can conveniently connect and switch without losing data. If you are interested in the standardisation process, contributions are welcome."

School education during COVID-19 Were teachers and Students ready? - 0 views

  •
As the COVID-19 pandemic worsened in countries across the globe, most governments took the precaution of closing their schools in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus. Schools were forced to replace this time in class with online learning and home schooling, in most cases facilitated by teachers and parents. After weeks of school closures, some countries are now starting the complicated process of gradually reopening their schools. To support these efforts, this COVID-19 country note aims to bring together evidence from various OECD school education surveys conducted prior to the crisis and use it to examine how prepared teachers, students and schools were in Netherlands to face the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a view to informing and guiding future policy responses to the crisis.
