Beginners guide to Augmented Reality - 0 views

  •
Augmented Reality has been judged as one of 2010's hottest trends. The concept behind it is pretty simple, over lay the physical world with cool graphics that appear to occupy the same space as you.

Since 1990 I have been a full-time independent designer of visual puzzles and games for the web, computer games, magazines and toys. My puzzles are in the spirit of Tetris and M.C. Escher - visually stimulating, thought provoking, broadly appealing, and highly original. I have created hundreds of puzzles for magazines, and thousands for computer games. I am especially interested in daily, weekly and monthly puzzles for the web and portable devices.

Bill Gates Takes On Education's Biggest Bureaucratic Beast With Video Games | Fast Company - 0 views

  •
"Around the country, a new career-minded education standard is slowly edging out the old academic focus on Lord Of the Flies book summaries and five-paragraph essays. So far 42 states have pledged to adopt the (coercively) voluntary standards championed by President Obama, the National Governors Association, and billionaire education crusader, Bill Gates. While educators are slowly dipping their feet into the pool of critical thinking, persuasive communications, and exploratory learning, the Gates foundation is looking to swing the direction of the standards with a mega-investment in digital learning."

Psychology of Cartoons - Part 1: Scooby-Doo - 0 views

  •
Cartoons are an ingrained part of our culture. We grew up on cartoons, and the lessons found therein. Cartoons have exponentially changed over the past 30 years in that they have morphed into basic insanity. There are still cartoons that present certain lessons to take away, but nothing compared to the cartoons of our youth in the 1980s. Clearly I represent a particular generation, and those older than me might not share the same sentiment, while those younger have probably already lost interest and are chasing the sunlight coming in through the window.

Psychology of Cartoons - Part 2: Sociology of The Smurfs - 0 views

  •
Growing up in my generation (1980s) and prior, going back to the advent of the television, it was inevitable that our young minds would be shaped by the world around us, including the technicolor world of television. While what we learned wasn't always the most beneficial to our development (Roadrunners recognize and can escape elaborate traps funded by the ACME Corporation) there were plenty of items that weaseled their way into our general psychology and helped shape our views of the world. It couldn't be helped. You are a product of your environment; how you disseminate that information is a whole different topic. Since a huge part of our childhood was cartoons, I've chosen another childhood classic to geekily hyper-analyze today: The Smurfs.
