"In 2014, the Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Learning embarked on a research project to investigate elements of effective teaching and learning practice valued at Vancouver Island University (VIU). Our investigation resulted in conversations with faculty and students in defining the elements of teaching practice valued at VIU. Faculty from the existing Community of Scholarly Teaching Practice (CoSTP) and students from the VIU community were invited to contribute their ideas about regarding effective teaching and learning design and practice. These consultations have generated a list of themes which capture practices most valued at VIU. "

And 250 leaders [including John Hagel] will attend Techonomy 2012 in Tucson starting Sunday. Are we just stubborn creatures of habit who are slow to adopt a better solution? Or, is there a fundamental value to the brick-and-mortar, flesh-and-bone world that cannot be replaced?"

"Memes are great for relevancy IF you have an obvious tie to the meme OR you're an online pundit whose writing/content basically lives off of commenting about news and other people's ideas. Otherwise they have little brand value."

Value of using tablets and are they effective for educational purposes k-12

"A better approach is positive general principles. Tell students what you want them to do. My favorite model is the four Tribes agreements that are displayed prominently in my class and discussed and practiced every day: Attentive Listening- Pay close attention to what others are saying. Check for understanding Appreciation Only- Treat each other kindly, don't use put-downs. Right to Pass- Choose when and how much you participate. It's acceptable to simply observe. Mutual Respect- Affirm the value and uniqueness of everyone."

Among the registered voters who participated in the survey, 59% said they agreed with the idea that increasing the number of online classes at California's public universities will make education more affordable and accessible. However, 34% expressed fears that expanding online classes will reduce access to professors, diminish the value of college degrees and not save money."

I opened my portion by emphasizing that the current IT-driven disruption is not actually about information technology but is, rather, about pedagogy. I'll take this opportunity to state my view again: the focus of this disruption should be on teaching and learning. However, I believe that there is value in having the IT organization take an active role in helping the institution to embrace this change, even going so far as to move onto "point" for change.

With almost 326 votes, I suppose it has some validity. What surprised me, but perhaps shouldn't have, was the even distribution of responses. I think that's a reflection of the new affordances and opportunities. People are finding value and learning in all kinds of tools and this truly represents a personalization of learning spaces
