The 5 Models Of Content Curation - 0 views

  •
"Over time, the idea of content curation has felt like more and more of a catchphrase that is really encompassing many smaller activities that are adding structure and insight to the cacophony of information being published online. What if we could define not just content curation as a macro activity, but look at how curation might be applied in very specific situations? The rest of this post shares 5 potential models for content curation as a starting point for discussion:"

Social Media Curation Guide - 0 views

  •
"Last year on SEOmoz, I published The Content Curation Guide for SEO, which - even though it is still valid - I thought it needed a fresh addition. Not only does this post update some of the information shared, but it also digs deeper into an aspect of content curation that is actually the most used and, possibly, useful to SEOs and Content Marketers who must deal with more duties than just curation: social media curation."

Curation: Creatively Filtering Content - 1 views

  •
"Content curation is the process of shifting through the vast abundance of content on the Internet to select the best, most relevant resource, on a specific topic or theme,  so that we can organize, manage and collate the content for ourselves and share with others. Content curation is about working smarter and not harder.  Content curation is also a reflective process; as you curate resources you reflect on their value.  Reflection makes new information stick in your brain."

Aggregation and curation: two concepts that explain a lot about digital change - 0 views

  •
"Curation is a term that has always referred to the careful selection and pruning of aggregates, such as for a museum or an art exhibition. But the concept in the digital content world means the selection and presentation of these disparate items to help a browser or consumer navigate and select from them. Aggregation without curation is, normally, not very helpful. Curation creates the brand."

Am I curating yet? Drawing the lines between creation, aggregation and curation - 0 views

  •
"Throughout this post, I've featured what I see as germane bits of conversations from around the Web. I've used them to illustrate the questions I'm asking, and I've added my personal take or reaction to each. It's pretty clear, to me at least, that I'm therefore engaging in curation."

Digital Curation: Alternatives to Storify - 0 views

  •
In order to fulfill the task of analyzing and presenting their Twitter activity, students would need to use an alternative to Storify. Unfortunately, I did not have a backup plan (i.e. a selection of other curation tools for them to use.) So we took this list of 40 curation tools, divided it up among the students in the class (each student tackled 2 of the items on the list), and quickly evaluated each one to see if it would fit our needs. If you'd like to take a look at the results of this evaluation, you can view the GoogleDocs spreadsheet that resulted from my students' work.

Content Curation versus Content Aggregation: A Velvet Mr. T Painting - 1 views

  •
"Over the past few years, publishing content in this manner makes me a curator of sorts.  Not an aggregator.  And here is why. Curation goes one step beyond aggregation by adding an active, ongoing editorial component."

Curation as Digital Literacy Practice - 0 views

  •
"I've been mulling over a series of ideas in my analysis of digital literacies, and one of them is the concept and practice of 'curation' as a digital literacy, and what the implications are for curation practices to be better understood, theorised, and subsequently harnessed for educational purposes."

The Curator: 3 Design Aspects in an E-Learning Experience - 0 views

  •
"The learning experience that you offer your students may still be unknown, unintentional, or misunderstood; nevertheless, you are offering an experience. An e-learning course with 77 content tabs, for example, may evoke a feeling among your students of being overwhelmed, just as presenting the plagiarism policy as the homepage of your course (you know who you are) may elicit a rigid first impression. This is where we can learn from the curators of the theme park experience-by meticulously curating a course to include enough "thrill" for our accelerated student and enough "support" for our remedial student, while still leaving enough room for every student's self-expression."

  •
if curation is done accurately and fairly, it "is of tremendous benefit to the creators of the content, because it brings them many more eyeballs, a lot more traffic, which they can monetize." Now, curation is a common practice among news organizations of all statures.

Are aggregation and curation journalism? Wrong question - 0 views

  •
"As more and more competitors for traditional media outlets emerge - whether they are corporations like The Huffington Post or teenagers in war-torn countries trying to do journalism on the fly, like the 14-year-old profiled in a recent New York Times story - there seems to be a growing obsession with defining what journalism is, and who deserves (or doesn't deserve) to be called a journalist. Is the man who live-blogged the Osama bin Laden assassination a journalist? Is National Public Radio's Andy Carvin, who has been using Twitter as a one-man newswire during the Arab Spring, a journalist?"
