The apple name is widely known because they make it known. they have a lot of contrast in theirr advertisements and their products are all very sharp designs because of the contrasting color.
  • . In Apple's case, Apple is the corporate brand with iPod being the individual brand. Some companies brand a service or a component of a product "Intel inside".
    • Delaney Hensley

companies have the name of their specific product on their packaging as well as the name of the company. the specific name is usually bigger and bolder. For example; apples IPod product has Ipod writen lard on the packaging. along with the apple symbol and the company name smaller.
  • Apple created a value added difference vs. =their competition (image) based primarily on advertising and "Branding".

Apple has a very slick design of their products which attracts customers. They also have a very solid well known branding of the apple symbol and the letter "I" that they put infront of product names.

This website is the coolest Ive found on contrast. It is completly visual and you go on the right hand side to a type of contrast, then a picture that explains it visually pops up on the right! Check it out its actually pretty fun!

This website uses many example of contrast. The font used in a few locations on the site gives you the southwest, frontier look. While other fonts are less stated they serve the purpose of peripheral information. I love the fire on the top left of the website, that brings attention to the logo of the restaurant. Many times in websites the company logo is in t he top left as this one, but they get lost because they are small.

  • Users don’t read, they scan.
  • users search for some fixed points or anchors which would guide them through the content of the page
  • the less intuitive is the navigation, the more willing are users to leave the web-site and search for alternatives
  • the web-page should be obvious and self-explanatory
  • The only element which is directly visible to the users is the word “free”
    • anonymous

I agree and think that these are very good guidelines. You don't really think about them when you are reading different instructions, but when I look back it makes sense. I don;t really ever read anything untill it catches my eye and looks interesting. ONce I start reading if its to wordy or boring I stop reading, I don't to have to think to hard.

This website lists "10 Principles Of Effective Web Design" that I believe are very useful. The images and information about where the users eyes fall and how to strategically organize your page are all helpful in designing not only blogs but any web page. These tips are very effective because they view everything from the users' perspective, saying things such as "users follow their intuition" or "users want to have control." I think that the aspects mentioned are good to take into account when design a site.

This source is thorough explanation of how to effectively write verbal instructions. It runs through the preliminaries (audience, situation, number of tasks, and the grouping of tasks), the common sense things to consider, and graphics, formating, and the revisions process. This guide is a great foundation for writing instructions that can be applied to a more visual approach for project one.

In chapter one they include features and benefit lists to help realize what you are offering and how it will help your target audience. This website adds to this tip by explaining how important it is to know what the main benefits of your page are. It is geared more toward marketing and sales but I think it is still relevant to what we are learning.
