Guidelines for Supervision, Roles, and Responsibilities During the Delivery of Occupati... - 0 views

  •
This document provides a definition for supervision: viewed as a cooperative process in which two or more people participate in a joint effort to establish, maintain and or elevate the level of competence and performance. The authors add that supervision is based on a mutual understanding between the supervisor and supervisee about each other's competence, experience, education and credentials. For me, it was interesting that the authors indicated that supervision is supposed to promote growth, encourage creativity and innovation. Thus, if your relationship with your supervisor does not reflect this then you may want to meet and discuss this document.
  •
This article discusses the general supervision guidelines for OTs and OTAs. It is broken down into four sections which cover general supervision, supervision of OTs and OTAs, roles and responsibilities, and supervision of OT aides. Supervision is defined at a joint effort to establish, maintain, or elevate competence and performance. The article urges OTs to seek mentorship as supervision to maintain competency and increase knowledge. Delegation of tasks to OTAs by OTs should be done with regard to the complexity of the client's needs/the intervention technique, the practice setting, and state/agency requirements.

Biomechanical evaluation of wrist-driven flexor hinge orthosis in persons with spinal c... - 0 views

  •
Promoting functional hand activities is a crucial rehabilitation goal for persons with tetraplegic spinal cord injury (SCI) [1-4]. Some people with mid- to low-level cervical (C) SCI achieve useful tenodesis grasp, which is opposition of the thumb and the index and middle fingers through reciprocal wrist extension and finger flexion, with the aid of a wrist-driven flexor hinge orthosis (WDFHO) [5-6].

This is a good website for a quick reference for the supervision laws for occupational therapy for those interested in practicing in South Carolina. I have friends and one family member living in South Carolina therefore I chose to research there supervision laws. In the state an OT needs to provide supervision to their COTAs ever 7 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first. In South Carolina there is no limit to the number of COTAS or aids that an OTR can supervise however the burden of proof of supervision is on the OTR. The webpage also indicates that a physician referral is not needed to initiate or continue service. This is similar to Ohio's policy. However many private insurance companies may require a referral. The quick reference web page then goes on to describe CUE licensure requirements.

Ohio Law Concerning OT Supervision - 1 views

  •
This page provides an overview of the laws and regulations in Ohio regarding supervision in occupational therapy practice. It discusses specific supervision practices for students, assistants, unlicensed individuals, etc.
  •
This web resource outlines Ohio Law concerning occupational therapists supervisory roles. A supervising occupational therapist is responsible and accountable for the actions of an occupational therapy assistant, occupational therapy assistant student, occupational therapy student, and unlicensed personnel, such as an aide or technician. A full-time supervising therapist who performs evaluations and is not directly responsible for providing occupational therapy treatment may supervise six occupational therapy assistants. However, a full-time supervising therapist who performs evaluations and maintains his/her own caseload may supervise no more than four occupational therapy assistants. A supervising occupational therapist must meet weekly with occupational therapy assistants who have less than one year of clinical experience, and monthly for those who have more than one year of clinical experience. This web resource provides vital information for those of us who are planning on working in Ohio.

Supervision - 0 views

  •
This article is not about student supervision, but occupational therapy assistant supervision. The article was located on the AOTA website and provides a model state Regulation for supervision, roles, and responsibilities during the delivery of occupational therapy services. The purpose of the model is to provide a template for use by state agencies and occupational therapy regulatory boards when drafting or revising regulations to govern the clinical supervision of occupational therapy assistants, limited permit holders, and aides. The model is intended to help safeguard the public health, safety and welfare by establishing guidelines that are consistent with professional standards and accepted practice in the profession. I think this is a good model to have in place to guide state regulation policies.
