    This study, small pilot, showed that they were able to lower inflammation in those suffering from RA, through high dose vitamin C IV therapy. This study stopped at 25 gms. The vitamin C is a scavenger of ROS and ROS stimulates inflammation through NF-kappaB. This is how vitamin C can reduce inflammation.

    High dose IV vitamin C shown to reduce both pain and inflammation in patients with RA.  This study looked at doses only up to 50 grams.  The specific inflammatory marker that this study looked at was CRP and it was reduced on average by 44%.

    review article of anti-inflammatory effects of Boswellia.  Boswellia inhibits 5-LOX and resultant leukotrienes.  3-actyl-11-keto-Beta-boswellic acid is the most potent inhibitor of 5-LOX.  As it relates to disease states and symptoms, Boswellia reduces pain in OA and RA.  Boswellia also shown to inhibit NF-kappa B: a potent nuclear transcription factor for inflammation.  In prostate cancer, Boswellia inhibits prostate tumor growth.

    Vitamin D supplementation in those individuals with SLE found to benefit these patients.   Vitamin D found to reduce TH1 and Th17 activity.  It also was found to decrease memory B cells and auto-antibodies.  Also of note is the level of vitamin D after therapy-only at 51.4 at 2 months and 41.5 at 6 months.

    Pregnancy is a immunosuppressive state.  Estriol therapy mimics that through decrease in T cell migration and activation.  Estriol moved the Tcells to a Th2 dominance and also was found to inhibit NF-kappaB.  Estriol decreased TNF-alpa through IL-10 production.

    this study looked at estrogen in rheumatoid arthritis in mice. They found an anti-inflammatory effect of estrogen in men through ER-alpha. This is in contrast to other studies. Maybe the immunomodulatory effects of estrogen is, in part, through which receptors are activated.
