Austin University's implementation of Oracle Exadata Database Machine enabling them to improve registration and student system reliability. The July 24 edition of University Business includes the following article highlighting Stephen f. Austin University's (SfA) implementation of Oracle Exadata Database Machine to improve registration and student system reliability. The article notes that the implementation enables students to register for classes more quickly with virtually no system bottlenecks or downtime. further, due to the improved system reliability and scalability, SfA's systems and administration team has been able to reduce staff overtime by eliminating the need to work nights and weekends to address performance issues.

Building on the foundation that Micros established serving the hotel and f&B industries, Oracle has launched Oracle Hospitality Global Business Unit to accelerate development of cloud, mobile and guest-experience technology. Mike Webster, SVP and general manager, Oracle Retail and Hospitality, told Hotel Business that the integration has been going quite well (Oracle acquired Micros in 2014), and that combining the companies into Oracle Hospitality will allow customers to get the best of both worlds: "We're preserving the intimacy and domain expertise that Micros had built and combining that with the scale and global reach of Oracle."

Looking at the many tech trends affecting full-service restaurants, two overarching themes emerge. One is the use of technology, particularly mobile devices, to enhance the guest experience-prior to the meal, at tableside, and beyond. The other big theme is restaurateurs' need for consistency and repeatability throughout the enterprise, in areas encompassing everything from pricing, menus, and reporting to regulatory compliance.
