The June 7 edition of Campus Technology includes a press release announcing the 2013 Innovators Awards, with nine honorees selected in six categories. Of note, Oracle was recognized in the Administrative Systems category under Cal State University and in the Education Futurists Category under San Jose State University. J.C. Penney Co. Inc., for one, is adding more programs from Oracle to its lineup. It already uses an e-commerce platform and web site personalization technology from ATG, and site search from Endeca Technologies-two companies that Oracle acquired within the past two years. The department store chain, No. 20 in the Top 500 Guide, is now adding Oracle software for analyzing customer demand by product and managing merchandising and supply chains.

The September 5 edition of Campus Technology includes the following article highlighting cloud solutions at multiple universities including Boise State University, University of Washington and the E. Philip Saunders College of Business at Rochester Institute of Technology. The article highlights that Boise State University implemented Oracle PeopleSoft Human Capital Management, PeopleSoft Financials and PeopleSoft Student Administration, to make the institution-wide move to cloud services. The article notes that this move is part of the university's Roadmap Project, a three-year program slated to run through spring 2014 that includes - in addition to an internal private cloud with virtual servers and storage - expanding the university's data warehouse and use of business intelligence; developing an individualized, unified Web experience; improving and streamlining identity management and security; and expanding and improving document management. Merron's experience is not unusual, says Dr. Peter Agel, Global Segment Leader -Hotels for Oracle Hospitality. But Agel believes that the future is brighter. One of Oracle's main goals, he says is "to reduce complexity and cost by providing cloud based services." Such services, coupled with increasing consolidation in the hotel technology industry, leads Agel to believe that in the future hotel technology will be far more standardized. Agel knows something about consolidation first hand. In September, 2014, Oracle acquired MICROS, one of the leading providers of POS systems used by over half a million hotels, restaurants and other operations. Taking one of the biggest POS providers and marrying it to one of the world's leaders in business software has the potential to create products that will ease the minds of many a tortured CFO.

The November 7 issue of Campus Technology includes an article highlighting the announcement that University of Akron in Ohio began implementing Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition and Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management, both hosted on Oracle Cloud Solutions for Education and Research. The article notes that the new technology is part of the university's Vision 2020 strategic plan to increase enrollment, improve the learning experience, and increase funding. It will also test a mobile payment acceptance technology in stores later this year. In 2012, Kohl's generated $1.43 billion in sales on the web, up 41.6% from $1.01 billion in 2011. "We have made significant investments in our IT and omnichannel initiatives to ensure we have the platforms, technology and tools to allow customers to shop when they want and from where they want," Mansell says.

The March 23 edition of TMCnet Education Technology includes the following article highlighting that California State University (CSU) has standardized its financial, human resources, student administration and alumni development systems across all 23 of its campuses and the Office of the Chancellor on Oracle's PeopleSoft Applications.  The article notes that this move is part of the university's strategic plan, Access to Excellence, through which CSU has committed to take advantage of technology to meet the future educational needs of students, faculty and staff.

The July 12 issue of eCampus News includes an article discussing recent changes in colleges students' financial aid packages caused by Congress's sequestration talks. The article includes comment from Oracle customer, Marquette University in which Tara O'Neill, Associate Director of the Office of Finance and Student Financial Aid noted that if this would have happened in the mid-2000s, schools would not be able to make the proper adjustments needed. However, with technological advancements in its financial aid office, Marquette was able to notify students of possible aid changes within 30 minutes of getting word from the federal government. The article notes that Marquette uses PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Student Financing system which provides constant updates to federal rules and regulations surrounding financial aid.

Highlighting that utility executives will gather at the upcoming Oracle OpenWorld San Francisco conference, October 2-6, 2011 at Moscone Center, to share new ways to leverage Oracle applications, technology and systems that help enable smart grid and other priority industry programs. The release notes that as part of a series of more than 40 sessions, demonstrations and networking events focused on utilities trends and solutions and will deliver presentations on how they work with Oracle on technology initiatives that help support strategies for improved efficiency, performance and customer service. The release also includes comments from Rodger Smith, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Utilities noting that Oracle designed the dedicated Utilities track for attendees to gain valuable information on how to respond to a changing business environment, stay ahead of environmental initiatives and offer customers better service.
