Since this is a graphic file, I can't put comments within the graphic itself. First, read through this graphic. Good suggestions for business that mirror that of education. Second, keep scrolling down. Notice the text of the same info. Ask yourself which you'd rather read! Without saying anything, the made a significant point by following the infographic with the text.

dol1: Lesson Planning: The Missing Link in e-Learning Course Design - 7 views
-
The point of the template is to force a comparison between the two instructional delivery modes, and to make the differences between them explicit to the ID.
-
I work with a lot of individuals/groups who want to take their f2f training to a online/self-paced lesson/training. I have had a difficult time explaining how content needs to look different online. The comparative lesson plan/template looks like a great way to make these differences explicit to the content experts and help them begin to see how they may need to adjust their content to fit the way in which it is being delievered.

lesson planning does not preclude an iterative approach to e-Learning course design.
-
IDP to storyboards requires intermediate steps. What can we do to help close the “e-Instruction gap”? Lesson planning is the answer.
-
How much overlap should one expect to see between the content in the lesson plan and what goes on the storyboard? As I work on the lesson plan, I can see myself starting to write out the content for the actually storyboard and eventually getting lost in all of the content and loosing sight of the lesson plan.

Emerging Asynchronous Conversation Models : eLearning Technology - 0 views
-
The standard model for asynchronous conversations is discussion forum software like vBulletin. I've talked before about the significant value that can be obtained as part of Discussion Forums for Knowledge Sharing at Capital City Bank and how that translates in a Success Formula for Discussion Forums in Financial Services. I also looked at Making Intranet Discussion Groups Effective.
-
However, I've struggled with the problem of destinations vs. social networks and the spread of conversation (see Forums vs. Social Networks).
-
Talkwheel is made to handle real-time group conversations and asynchronous ones. It can act as an instant messaging service a bit like Yammer, HipChat for companies and other groups, but the layout is designed to make these discussions easier to see, archive, and work asynchronously.

Threaded discussion is an old technology. It's inspiring to think of new ways we can talk together at a distance that allow integration of both synchronous and asynchronous technology. I often thing we'll look back on the course management systems we use today and think of them as something like a 300 baud modem. Eyes Front! What's over the horizon line?

The open access debate Wednesday, October 19, 2011 At the EDUCAUSE 2011 conference today, I had the pleasure of attending a lecture by Hal Abelson – founding director of Free Software Foundation and Creative Commons. He presented on the state of openness in education. While on the surface openness is gaining traction through scholarship and publication, content providers and journal publishers are starting to push back. During the talk, he used the image below (from this article – .pdf) to argue that journal publishers have a monopoly. The surface progress of openness belies a deeper, more dramatic period of conflict around openness that is only now beginning.

How Online Education Is Changing the Way We Learn [INFOGRAPHIC] - 1 views

This info graphic really shows how online learning is changing and challenging our traditional mode of educating.
-
Our school offered a blended class through APEX learning. I was in charge of the Algebra II class and the students loved working at their own pace and when they wanted to work. There were time lines for assignments and test, but students could work ahead. If they had questions I was available for them. I don't think that they could do the course completely by themselves. I think that this was a great learning opportunity for the students, to see what is ahead of them in the learning system.

Online Learning: The Pros And Cons Of K-12 Computer Courses - 0 views
-
The analysis did find that students in online conditions performed modestly better, on average, than those learning the same material through traditional face-to-face instruction.
-
In Florida, thousands of students now rely solely on computers instead of teachers for their daily virtual lessons. And lawmakers are planning to expand online instruction to even more students.
-
"Proponents of online classes say they are a cost-effective alternative to traditional instruction that provide students more flexibility in their learning, as well as access to a greater variety of options. They allow schools to offer makeup courses, additional electives and Advanced Placement classes which they wouldn't be able to otherwise. However, there isn't much research on the effectiveness of these virtual courses. Critics argue online learning will be used as a way for school districts to cut corners on spending -- to the detriment of their students' educations."
