Part of the experience of being a keynote speaker at the Jon C. Dalton Institute on College Student Values is that you get to do an interview with the Character Clearinghouse at Florida State University. This is a basic analysis as to why digital identity needs to be more integrated into higher education. Important here is the need for institutions to play catch up to train faculty and staff who are meant to teach students about DI, who are just as likely to commit egregious violations of social media ettiquette (Impression management and professional comportment).

What digital footprint are you building? It is good practice to review the importance of maintaining a positive digital presence with your students whenever there is an online component to a class. It is important that this "born digital" generation understands the serious, future consequences of what they post through online media. I chose this resource because it is important for teachers to show students how their digital footprint can be exposed on line and to be aware of what they are posting and how. These short videos are very informative and easy for busy teachers to learn from and share with students.

I agree that students need to have some background knowledge about the topic they research on internet. And then they may do qualitative research. I wouldn't speak about positive/negative search results, I would rather speak about true/false results.

As a student, I think I learn to filter out what is valid and invalid. Depending on the source, and the crediblity, and the references it uses, i think will help individuals fitler out what is true or not .

This paper reports on a failed experiment to use Wiki technology to support student engagement with the subject matter of a third year undergraduate module. Using qualitative data, the findings reveal that in an educational context, social technologies such as Wiki's, are perceived differently compared with ordinary personal use and this discourages student adoption. A series of insights are then offered which help HE teachers understand the pitfalls of integrating social technologies in educational contexts.

A good engineer - not the one who knows by heart the formulas, theorems and methods, and the one who knows the ways of solving problems and approaches to the study of various problems.
