Good points in the article: There are several good reasons a novelist chooses to self-publish: 1. Because of repeated rejection. 2. To get the book to market more quickly. 3. To have more control over the process. 4. To receive a larger share of the book's earnings. 5. To attract the attention of a major publisher.

With digitization of publishing its now an option to self publicize especially for new writers who thing their work will never be acknowledged. But musicians are also using the self publicizing/promotion and later one it does pays on. I heard of Justin Bieber story of when the mother was busy posting you-tube videos.So its possible to go a "freenuim" way and start with e.g blogging and eventually build a fan/interest base

It's good that people make a participatory culture over the cyberspace, it is way beyond the limitations like in a classroom setting. It creates a social connection with one another and can be a life-long learning process.

Esta es la historia de Hernan Casciari, bueno una de sus historias porque él se dedica a contar historias. Es escritor y periodista y según nos cuenta, debido a circunstancias personales vino a Europa a recoger un premio literario y se quedó en Catalunya. Nos habla de como se unió al conocimiento abierto.

The crux of Mr Lessig's argument is that every time a "kid" remixes a song with a video they are committing a criminal act. By doing this the law is making their free expression criminal. He shows three great examples of this starting at 8:29 in the video. He suggests that by using Creative Commons materials, we can avoid being criminals, and by doing this we can break the cartel of the RIAA and others. He uses the example of BMI causing the downfall of ASCAP. You can see this at 4:55 in the video. Here is the quote: "Finally. Before the Internet, the last great terror to rain down on the content industry was a terror created by this technology [Shows a picture of a broadcast radio antenna]. Broadcasting: a new way to spread content, and therefore a new battle over the control of the businesses that would spread content. Un artículo muy interesante en relación al debate de la calidad de la información proporcionada por profesionales y amateurs desde el enfoque del sector profesional. Interesante para sostener un debate desde ambos enfoques.

Los periodistas ciudadanos cumplen algunas funciones de los periodistas profesionales como buscar, recabar y compartir noticias, pero les falta la profesionalización, en muchos casos mejorar su redacción, corroborar las notas que comparten y publican. Los medios como blogger, facebook y twitter están plagados de noticias falsas, sin fuentes de investigación. Los periodistas ciudadanos no tienen la ayuda de un editor que revise sus publicaciones, corrija su redacción, opine y ordene las notas. Sin embargo, están haciendo uso de su libertad de expresión. Si alguien no esta de acuerdo con alguna acción, por ejemplo, una ley que discrimina a las personas por su codición económica, escribirá su opinión en un foro opinando sobre dicha ley, en otros casos escribirá una nota en su blog personal y compartiendola a través de sus redes sociales. Aunque esto también puede traer problemas, no existe el derecho de réplica,una corroboración de los hechos como lo puede haber en una investigación periodística profesional.

The issue of digital identity seems to be causing a lot of waves on the online community. people are really indeed concerned about their privacy and its management. Internet privacy tools have an unfortunate but well-deserved reputation for being technically difficult and bothersome. There's a persistent story that says that there is an intrinsic, irreducible complexity to the problem of keeping your communications from being snooped on and keeping your data from leaking that makes it the exclusive domain of spies and the professionally paranoid.

I enjoyed Mimi Ito's piece on learning in the social media space. She spoke about some parents feeling that online activities are hostile to learning.
