On October 17, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed and remanded a key fair-use ruling in a long-running case over digital course readings on college campuses. But while on the surface the decision is a legal victory for the plaintiff publishers, two major library associations say the ruling is in fact a win for libraries, and for a popular practice known as "e-reserves."

Very relevant for our academic librarians.

An interesting article written by Tatjana Tkaseva Chorney that describes the subject in detail from different angles. In her work Tatjana analyses subjects as education as commodity, students as consumers and educators as service providers.

It does sound interesting when one stops to consider it seems an accurate forecast.

I began at Code Academy last year, and completed various courses. The problem I had was knowing about the architecture and systems behind the code, so, now I am learning to use Command Line and working through FLOSS manuals. I like Code academy, and I may go back there, but not before I have understood Command Line and more specifically what works with Linux, Ubuntu, Fedora etc The thing is, free software development, open source and education for all, begins with Linux OS and whatever branches from that is free to share, iterate and scalable. The trademark socialist, philosophically opposed to the capitalist.

The collection is fantastic, and can either be searched for all images relating to your keywords, or only the images that are available for download. If you're downloading an image under a CC BY-NC-ND license, they provide you with the attribution that they'd like you to use, and ask about your intended use (with a drop-down menu) and for more information if you're interested in sharing it, but answering those questions is optional. Appending "We're really interested!" to the request for additional information seems like a pretty clever way to encourage people to provide more information though, I'd be interested in finding out how well that works.

A very large library of music for video and other projects. It appears that they are changing their model a bit but still offer free licenses for YouTube projects and some student projects. Other uses will have a fee associated. The quality of music is very high and I have used this site a good deal in the past for student work.
