Chattanooga (no, I don't work or live there) is building the infrastructure for connected learning for all citizens. Gigabit broadband. Public library spaces where learners and entrepreneurs can play with all kinds of tools, not just tech ones. Make.Play.Read.Learn is a summer program offered by the library and the local Mozilla Hive Learning Community. I love the statement, "If you are reading this, you are already participating."

We have heard about creative ways to circumvent Internet censorship in China. But there are also creative ways to censor the peoples discussions and information on the net.

Romualdo Maestre, periodista de ABC, publicó una imagen que pretendía demostrar que yihadismo e independentismo catalán son lo mismo. Sin embargo, esta instantánea era trucada, por lo que el comunicador fue duramente criticado. Luego de publicar el tuit que aparece en la parte posterior, el periodista fue inmediatamente increpado por los internautas, que descubrieron que la imagen era trucada.

No se conformo con compartir una foto trucada si no que al retirar la primera publico otra peor.

This paper draws general insights into the public reception of scientific knowledge from a case study of Cumbrian sheep farmers' responses to scientific advice about the restrictions introduced after the Chernobyl radioactive fallout. The analysis identifies several substantive factors which influence the credibility of scientific communication. Publicuptake of science might be improved if scientific institutions expressed an equivalent reflexive discourse in the public domain

Furthermore, those limitations divided with sociodemographic characteristics such as age, gender, income, and education."

Resumen: Medios tradicionales, redes sociales, reporteros, nuevos medios, blogue- ros, periodismo ciudadano, prensa en papel, contenido generado por el usuario, medios ciudadanos... Todo está cambiando en la era digital: la industria musical, la cinematográfica, la manera de informar e informarnos y, cómo no, los medios de comunicación. Conocer y saber qué está cambiando en este nuevo ecosistema mediático es imprescindible para innovar y afrontar esos retos con ciertas garantías. En este libro nos adentramos en el periodismo ciudadano, en la participación de los usuarios como generadores de información, convertidos ahora en creadores de sus propios medios(ciudadanos). La antigua audiencia pasiva ahora es activa: los usuarios se pueden informar unos a otros, tanto a nivel global como en los ámbitos más locales, haciendo un uso intensivo de las herramientas tecnológicas que tienen a su alcance, a través del gran canal de distribución que es Internet. Esta es una de las razones por las que los ciudadanos, implicados en tareas informativas (periodistas ciudadanos), se han convertido en el quinto poder, en los vigilantes del cuarto poder

This site brings the concept of participatory culture to teacher professional development. I see it as an aspect of citizen activism because it is essentially taking the old idea of "professional development" (US teachers are probably all too familiar with sitting in a room while someone from a publisher makes them go page by page through a binder of photocopiable worksheets) and turns it on its head. #2minpd is teachers creating the professional development and sharing it in a format that does not demean participants.
