An amazing site for all instrumentalists that includes audio/video demonstrations of most woodwind, brass, string, percussion, and keyboard instruments. Examples of articulation, timbre in different registers, mutes, vibrato, special effects, and more are provided.

A great interactive way for students to learn the instruments of the orchestra, as well as fretted strings, without sitting through a lecture. What fun this would be as a scavenger hunt for the students with QR codes.

This website has access to many professional musicians showcasing their talents through the New World Symphony. They have videos with specific instrumental instruction. If I wanted to show a private bassoon student a website where they can listen to many players, they can access this site and simply search bassoon and listen to famous solos such as The Rite of Spring. This is a great resource to demonstrate what professional musicians sound like in order for them to practice and mimic these sounds.

This is a great resource for any percussionist looking to improve or refine their rudiments. Vic Firth has put together a website that includes demonstration videos, play-along tracks at different tempi, and lessons for each rudiment. As a non-percussionist, this website helps my percussionists with rudiments more than I can.

This link is the Vic Firth page over the 40 Essential Rudiments for snare drum. Vic Firth is a fantastic resource for anything percussion, but their rudiment page is my favorite because it breaks down each rudiment for the students and they demonstrate each rudiment open-closed-open. This is a great resource to to send with students so they are sure to practice rudiments correctly on their own.

This YouTube video is a series of 18 recorder lessons which progress through the different pitches played on the recorder. There is a visual demonstration of each note as well as the notation on the staff. Background accompaniment is also a part of the video.

Great website that shows how to playback/record songs on iOS  GarageBand. There are videos that demonstrate how to make the songs that are listed in varying degrees of difficulty (from easy, intermediate to difficult). This is a good resource for students to learn how to create songs on iOS GarageBand. 

This free downloadable version of Finale NotePad is great for basic composition projects. The software boasts its "Human Playback" feature which is designed to demonstrate expressive musical nuances, giving it a more realistic sound rather than being merely computer generated. NotePad has excellent sound quality and includes over 128 built-in instrument voices.

A free download for basic music notation. You have the ability to make simple scores and compose exercises or any music really for several different instruments. A great introduction into the full Finale product and an easy tool for students to use on simple composition projects.  

This slow blues jam is a great resource for those teaching improvisation to beginners or demonstrating the skill to a class. The video is approximately 8 minutes in length allowing the listener/performer to repeat without having to start the video over once more.

Sound Fundamentals is a complete band method for classroom and individual use. It includes embedded videos demonstrating concepts and exercises.

Teachers will be introduced to Google Apps for Education as a resource to enhance collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity with students, colleagues and their school community. Emphasis will be placed on introducing resources that provide best practices when using Google Apps for Education. The course is online and divided into 10 self paced modules. Each module can be completed individually. Staff will demonstrate completion of each module through a Google Form. 

Audacity is an audio editing tool used to alter recordings and export them into various formats. Used as an educational tool students are able to record, edit, and add digital effects to recordings to remix or compose creative musical products. Music educators may also find it valuable for editing recordings of performances or demonstrating the properties of sound. This website has information on Orff-Schulwerk workshops, certification courses, as well as access to resources and video demonstrations with a membership. This is a great website for general music teachers, as well as any secondary teacher wishing to incorporate movement and improvisation into their classroom. I highly recommend all general music teachers get involved in their local Orff chapter.

This is a good perspective on why it's important to teach music to children at a very young age. The speaker feels it is also necessary to have children trained by a professional teacher.

This is a Ted Talk which deals with the value of music education, specifically highlighting the important connection between creativity (imagination) and music. Richard Gill, a music educator, delivers the talk, and includes some keyboard demonstration.

This video is very informative. I have played portions of this video for my students and it has helped with explaining the instruments even more than I do.

This Ted Talk, given by Alan Harvey, explains the many ways that music affects the human body and brain. Harvey explained the history and use of music within our lives. In this lecture, Alan Harvey explained the ways in which music triggers signals in our brain. He demonstrated the impact of music on the brain through images of the brain, showing the alpha waves notated by an EEG, and by giving examples of a video with peaceful music and then again with a faster and darker melody. He spoke about how music impacts our viewpoint upon images.

I know this isn't a "website", per se, but I need to share Dudamel conducting the fourth movement of Dvorak's "New World Symphony" since I just bookmarked the listening map. This is such a wonderful performance, and it demonstrates how crucial the conductor is in coercing a certain sound from the performers!

This website offers worksheets, games, and tutorial videos for teachers to use with their younger piano students (K-6 to) to enhance student engagement and understanding. Some basic theory is taught in the form of colorful dittos for students, and other theory or technique is taught by game-based worksheets. There are a number of resources to accommodate major holidays and calendar events as well. There are many link that branch off into different other sites to facilitate the sharing of ideas with other educators. Videos are also included to demonstrate how various games and lessons should be structured for maximum efficiency.
