The National Association for Music Education's webpage is valuable online tool for music educators of all fields. It offers helpful resources for not only teachers, but students as well. There is a wide variety of links and posts to read through ranging from blog posts to teaching standards.

NAFME is a vital resource for music educators. This website provides communication and collaboration via forums, lesson plans, standards, frequently posted articles, and even more resources for music educators of all varieties. It is an excellent way to stay involved in the music education community, and it continuously strives to improve the state of music education nation-wide.

This music technology website offers a blog, sheet music, and reviews of products. They are also talking about the new NAfME standards along with technology.

Monthly video about the most current music technology. This is great to keep up with the latest music education technology. The video gives good ideas about many different types of music technology.

Sound trap is an online Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) that one can use to create loops and tracks online. One doesn't need to download any software to install sound trap, it is typically online and is a very good resource for teaching creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking (4 Cs). I like sound trap because it enables students and teachers to continue work anywhere any time (in and outside the classroom). Teachers can easily add projects and invite students to work on the project any time anywhere. The fact that one can invite another person to work on the same project and/or even record a track together is mesmerizing. With sound trap, it is easy to record any instrument, download a track, and best of all, you can record using a microphone and/or use the free loops, MIDI, and effects that come with the software. A school has to purchase the software and add students to start using it. However, the software has a one month free trial which teachers can try out with their students before purchasing.

Simple tool to help my students hear the steady beat when we are working with rhythms!  It could also be a great tool to help them see the different tempi.

This is a great, free metronome tool to use with students in the classroom or for them to use in their own practice at home. It allows students to work on rhythm, tempo, beat, and time signature.

You must subscribe to the association in order to benefit from its classroom resources, scholarships, and publication. But it seems to be a great source of support for classroom music educators!

The AOSA website is a resource for music educators. It provides information about the Orff-Schulwerk approach, advocacy, professional development, and teaching resources (lesson plans covering a variety of music content, videos, literature integration, and technology). Some links are only accessible by AOSA members.

The site also has recordings of the Army band performing some traditional ceremonial songs including marches, fanfares, and even bugle calls that are found on the music tab. This is very beneficial if you are are trying to perform a patriotic show or performing for the school's JROTC programs. There are pages for the National Anthem and The Army Song that provides the history of the songs as well as the lyrics and recordings. You can click on the songs titles to download mp3 files. The education tab is great because it has a list of U.S. Army Music Master Classes for every instrument and covers a wide range of topics. From basics and fundamentals to practicing to percussion. Master classes are added periodically. When you click on the title of the master class, a PDF will download. You can also request for a clinicians, clinic teams, master classes, or guest conductors to come out to your school. The only expense you might have to pay is for travel expenses if they are not in the area.

Vic Firth's education resources include videos on all things percussion related.  There are video and audio clips regarding beginning snare drum/mallets, drum set, rudiments, concert percussion, and marching/world percussion.  This is a great resource for teachers and students.

Musical Content: The Vic Firth Educator page contains fundamental playing technique for snare drum, keyboard percussion and drum set as well as demonstration videos, articles, and sequential playing exercises. There are also videos about instrument set up and maintenance. Other information: The resources on this page are geared toward both educator and student. Many of the music reading articles and exercises are also applicable to non-percussionists and can be readily adapted for classroom use.

SmartMusic has interactive, web-based editions of many popular instrumental, band, chorus, and orchestra method books, as well as a massive collection of sheet music. Students can listen, loop, record and submit pieces they are working on. A neat feature of SmartMusic is that students can click on a single note and hear how it is supposed to sound, and how to finger that note on their instrument. Students can adjust tempo, play with a metronome, use a tuner to check pitch, and more. A paid subscription allows teachers to create online classrooms for assigning and assessing work, and have access to the entire SmartMusic catalog.

SmartMusic is music learning software for music teachers and students. It makes music learning easy and fun. Students can continue their learning outside school. Teachers can also assess students outside the school wall. Smart music is good for rehearsals because a student can rehearse at home when the teacher is listening in and correcting him/her from anywhere else. It is easy to access and a good resource for music classes.

The purpose of the resource is for student and teacher practice/classroom tools. The content included in this source is a subscription to a web-based service that allows students and educators access to sight-reading material, repertoire accompaniments, and method books. League of American Orchestras is a site for educators, professional musicians and students can explore. Teachers can look at advocacy and the government to find out what is happening in legislation. There is a career center for teachers and professional musicians who are looking to perform. Everyone can learn about Learning and Leadership development of students and teachers. The Knowledge, Research and Innovation tab is great as it is the latest research happening. You can also find conferences, meetings, journals, conducting, composing and performing tab.

This site is a great resource for orchestra teachers. The purpose of this resource is to provide information about the current state of music programs and opportunities for orchestral students. The content of this site is mainly articles and registration links for different conferences. There are also links to webinars, fellowships, etc. as well as current issues revolving around orchestral music/education. Some sources particularly helpful for teachers are a link with interesting facts about orchestra and articles about how to reach out to bigger audiences. It offers a subscription for "Symphony" Magazine and provdes information about composing, conducting, and performing, all major elements or any music education program.

MuseScore3 is full-featured, open-source music notation software. This software is installed directly on a computer, and has compatible versions for PC, Mac, and Linux operating systems. There is no online or "cloud" version of this software. Although MuseScore is free, it is a professional music notation alternative to Finale and Sibelius and is capable of producing high-quality musical scores in a variety of formats. MuseScore also has full capability to produce audio playback, export to audio, and generate MIDI files.

MuseScore is a free music notation program that is easy to use and can produce easy to read, high quality sheet music for your ensembles. The interface is similar to other notation programs that you need to pay for. I have been using MuseScore to create etudes and warmups for my ensemble classes.

MuseScore is a music composition and notation software used to write/notate music. It requires the user to download and install the application on their system. This application is easily accessible and is free of charge. It is a software that is updated almost every month to make the features better. Muse Score has an easy to use interface and is a good tool to use in class for children to write down their simple compositions. Students are able to play back their compositions to their classmates, print them out, and/or even share them online. While using MuseScore, students learn many different musical concepts like dynamics, timbre, form, texture, structure, melody, repetition, phrasing, rhythm, tone, to mention but a few. MuseScore enhances the musicianship of students.

This is the Dallas Symphony's kids page. They have great videos and resources about the instruments of the orchestra and composers. There are lesson plans available as well. This is probably geared more toward younger students.

There are videos and songs to enhance music lessons, as well as ideas and materials for lesson plans. Similar to Soundtrap.com; this online DAW is a great resource for student to create music with loops. I've used this in a technology class and students enjoy the variety of loops.

Soundation is a fully functioning cloud-based DAW, similar to Soundtrap. The look is darker and more professional, and the effects processing is more sophisticated. This could be a good option for college-level recording and collaboration, whereas Soundtrap's colorful look and simplicity would be more appropriate for middle- and high-school use.

With soundation, students learn to do recording, editing, mixing, instrument patches, and MIDI input. Soundation is good for university level whereas Soundtrap's simplicity is good for middle and high school. Like soundtrap, it has a free one month trial with limited accessibility and to access the full premium, one has to pay. Soundation helps students acquire the 4Cs i.e Collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. It is a good resource for teaching studio composition and for enhancing the musicianship of non traditional music students.

This is a discussion by New York Times columnist, David Brooks, and Kathy Fletcher, and the director of Turnaround Arts Initiative about the important work that Turnaround Arts does through the strategic use of the arts. The discussion talks about how music facilitates brain development, why certain things in music leave people fascinated, and what magic music brings to emotion. The discussion also unfolds how the arts, and music education in particular opens the student's mind to memorisation. David Brooks says "Students understand better when topics are introduced through music". I agree with that because most students become more alert when a topic is introduced through song and it fosters the interest of students. Therefore we need arts to succeed in education. A lot of artists came from struggling backgrounds so when they talk to children that would like to succeed in the music world but are frightened that they'll never make it, they tell them "I know what you are going through but you can make it". This encourages those children to push on and excel in the arts. Kathy Fletcher says music boosts critical thinking and confidence which is ideal for students and they end up excelling in all other fields. The arts connect us all through music in a way that music created is shared all around the world. Partnerships are created to perform music and people come together to listen to music. This makes us one.

This is an ear training game using a "matching card" format. It looks simple and almost boring, however, once a person starts playing the game it becomes very interesting, This is well suited for middle school as it does not appear to "babyish".

Note pair is an online music game designed to help children read music notes easily and quickly. This game helps children learn to read music notes step by step, at their own pace. A child listens to a note, and tries to match it to a similar note. This ear training computer game lets you learn music notes and their pitches. Students and pupils who play a musical instrument as a child have a better verbal memory than those with no music training. Aural listening skills enhance brain development and students who listen more to music are calm, critical thinkers, and confident. Introducing such a game as a lesson starter even for classes that are not learning music fosters concentration and interest of the learners. Their brain becomes alert and ready to take in any information.
