Getting Started with Firefox extension - Diigo help - 0 views

  •  Feature Highlight: Highlights Diigo saves the day with "highlights". Highlights let you select the important snippets on a page and store them in your library with the page's bookmark. Let's try it. Just open a page, maybe one of your old-school bookmarks or one of your new cat bookmarks, and find the information on that page you actually care about. Select that important text. Got it? Okay, now put your hemet on, 'cause this might blow your mind! Click the highlight icon on the Diigo toolbar. It's the one with the "T" on a page with a yellow highlighter. You will notice that the selected text gets a yellow background. This means that the text has been saved in your library, and as long as you have the Diigo add-on the text will be highlighted on the page! How's that for easy?   Now you've highlighted the text. It will appear in your library within the bookmark for the page it is on. Go to your library and you can see how it works. If you're not sure how to get to your library, just click the second icon on the toolbar (Diigo icon to the left of the search bar) and then select "My Library ยป".
  • Sticky Notes on the Web What? I can put a sticky note on a web page? How? Oh, that's right! Diigo. Just right-click anywhere on the page and choose to "add a floating sticky note". Type up your note and choose "Post", then move the note anywhere on the page. You have to type a note first, before you move it where you want, otherwise there's nothing to move!

This is a fantastic resource that I have been using for many years. There are many options for lessons among the music elements, which are customizable for different levels of difficulty. My favorite to use this site for is identifying pitches. I can customize the lesson to only include specific pitches and ranges, and even with sharps and flats.

This is a reference-type resource which I have found great use for while planning lessons. Although it can be hard to navigate, there is a mound of great information available for history, theory, and overall musical information.

San Francisco Kids is a website that is attractive and fun for children. There are lessons and interactive composing activities that are helpful and informative for kids who are new to music.

This is a resource to gather public domain sheet music and lyrics. It is good for developing your own lessons and avoiding copyright, and also for programs which may not have a lot of money for new music. There are also composer pages, although I don't think these are exactly helpful. It lacks information other than birthdays and a general sentence explaining who the composer is.

This is another Orchestra-sponsored website with fun activities for kids. It can be used during spare time, or units could be developed around it. The game I found which I liked in particular is called "Beethoven's Baseball". You get to pick your composer team, and then click on Beethoven to throw the "pitches", which are questions. The game keeps your score and is interactive. The website also has a "listen by composer" section, as well as other instructions for activities including making your own instrument.

MakingMusicFun.net | Creative Resources for Elementary Music Education - 0 views

  •
Making Music Fun.net is a fun resource for both teachers and students. There are fun worksheets, and free sheet music for a variety of different instruments arranged by difficulty level. I like to leave these worksheets for a sub, and I give the sheet music to my trumpet students for practicing fun items in addition to their method books which may get boring from time to time. There is also information regarding composers, and is perfect for the elementary classroom.

Soundation - Make music online - 0 views

This is a web-based software which is free with the option to upgrade. It is similar to GarageBand, but is great because it doesn't require a specific type of computer to use. To use, one simply drags in the loops and MIDI tracks to create their own songs. The free version has its limitations, but can still create some amazing tracks for the classroom.

Noteflight is another web-based software for music notation. It is user friendly, and there are several tutorial videos out there to help anyone needed to know how to use it. You can embed and share your compositions, and also export them as files. It is like Finale, but has a lot less options, which makes it easier and less overwhelming for use in the classroom

Incredibox - Express your musicality! - 1 views

  •
Incredibox is a neat web-based app where seven loops at a time are available for students to use at a time. They may remove and add loops at any point, and there are unlocked special content available for certain combinations. This makes it seem like a game. Students can share their compositions, but unfortunately cannot download it without paying. Regardless, this is a fun activity where all the loops sound good-no matter what the combination.
