It is an excellent way to stay involved in the music education community, and it continuously strives to improve the state of music education nation-wide.

This page provides a list of repertoire that is suitable for young bands. Along with the titles, arrangers and publisher, it provides a brief description as well as length of piece. This is a great resource with young bands wanting to play higher level repertoire. 

This PDF list of standard repertoire for intermediate bands includes composer, title, difficulty level, and description about the primary thematic and musical concepts of each piece.

It is a good resource when choosing your middle school concert repertoire.

I use this game with my students to help with note names.  This makes naming notes a game and competitive.  It also includes the alto clef and while many worksheets leave out the alto clef.

This website is an excellent tool for reinforcing note reading and fluency. Students can progress through three levels of identifying notes on a staff specific to their instrument. They can work to get faster times and eventually reach the top 50 list.

This site has 3 reinforcement games in it for band students. In order to start the games students select their instrument, it then takes them to the appropriate exercise for the students. The reinforcement games are note identification, fingering reinforcement and music terms.

Though a few of the posts are irrelevant, this is a great source for music educators to learn about different types of audio and project examples. This is a great interactive and multimedia resource for teachers from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's website.  The beta Digital Classroom begins with the 1950s.  Different artists are highlighted from the 1950s, each with a bio, authentic performance video, "why it matters" section and lesson objectives that highlight important musical aspects of the artist.

The U.S. National Gallery of Art hosts more than 25,000 images of famous and not-so-famous works of art. Nearly all of the images can be downloaded and re-used for free. NGA Images also allows you to register and create online collections of images. The collections are called lightboxes.

Children like games. They find it easy to play with toys, building blocks, and puppets. Children require an experience of creative play with music to enhance their understanding of musical concepts. This website's sketch pad and rhythm band games foster children's understanding of pitch, rhythm, and melody. Aural listening is a good tool for children to understand music. By listening, they get an experience of how an instrument sounds, what pitch sounds high or low, and how a melody sounds. The American Folk Song Collection is a website that music educators can use to search for hundreds of folk songs. Each song includes a PDF of lyrics, melody, game/dance directions, song analysis, rhythms, and original source (some also include recordings). The website also includes basic information about the Kodaly approach.

The Kodaly Center website is a valuable resource for all music teachers and especially those teaching elementary general music. The website contains videos about the history and philosophy of Kodaly, as well as recent news and upcoming events being held at the center. The most impressive feature of this site is the pubic domain library of songs and the precise ways they are categorized. Songs can be searched and categorized by: Origin, region, state, subject, song type, grade level, tonal center, scale, tone set, melodic range, melodic element, melodic motive, rhythmic element, meter, form, formal analysis and game type. Once you find a song you can see all of this detailed information as well as (in most cases) listen to the song, often sung by a child or group of children.

The topics of discussion include arts as a core subject, formal teacher evaluation procedure for arts classes, engaging students in music classes, and the importance of providing an arts education to every student. A nice aspect of this site is that it provides information not only in the form of text, but also graphs and charts. This makes the information presented easy to comprehend for a larger audience. Teachers can use the informaion from these research studies and blogs to ensure that their music program is genuinely helping all of the students and to educate themselves on the importance of music education/its place in todays changing views on the arts as a core subject.

This site, compiled of professional educators, aims to enhance creative music and movement by emphasizing the Orff approach to instruction, providing professional development to its members, and supporting the creative potential of learners. You must subscribe to the association in order to benefit from its classroom resources, scholarships, and publication. But it seems to be a great source of support for classroom music educators!

The AOSA website is a resource for music educators. It provides information about the Orff-Schulwerk approach, advocacy, professional development, and teaching resources (lesson plans covering a variety of music content, videos, literature integration, and technology). Some links are only accessible by AOSA members.

The American Orff-Schulwerk Association provides a variety of resources for teachers and students to enhance their musical education. Here, students work together to create musical experiences through dance, movement, playing instruments, singing, and acting. Workshops and clinics can be attended to enhance knowledge and understanding in this area of music education.

This site contains an audio example along with a viewable example of the lead sheet (in most cases). This is a fantastic resource for jazz students.

The purpose of this website is to provide a list of free jazz sheet music in the keys of Bb, Eb, and bass clef from the "Real Book". The content lists songs from A to Z which provide an audio recording link for each without any ads. Students can use this site to play along with the sheet music and accompaniment provided. It would make a great practice tool in addition to method book material for students of all ages. The author of the site also promotes a "my music apps" page for beginner and experienced musicians.

Naxos is a resource of over 1 million recordings in myriad genres. It requires a subscription but would be an excellent investment for a school library (other non-music classes could take advantage of it). Files a flash streamed and one does not need any special software to make use of this site.

Naxos is a Music Library full of wonderful recordings of music. It is the largest classical music publisher for CD's and has a variety of current recordings of new music as well as many old favorites. This is a must have resources for schools and other music professionals.

The Rhythm Trainer is a simple flash-based game that reinforces rhythm concepts. Students can either enter the rhythm that they hear, or choose the correct audio that matches the rhythm they see. Each example is four beats long, and there are a limited number of rhythms available. Students can select any or all of the 8 rhythms available to practice. Results can be emailed to the student's teacher.

The Rhythm trainer is another great source for helping students learn the principles of ear training. Teachers can load listening examples of varying rhythmic figures which students can respond to picking the examples they think best fit. Students can choose two modes of rhythm training which either provide them with choices for answers or require them build their answers based on the specific rhythms they are being trained on. The Rhythm Trainer does require the use Adobe Flash Player in order to play the examples but can be great for anyone teaching or learning the very basics developing good ear training skills.

This is a great tool to have to teach students rhythm. I use this to teach my private students to strengthen their ability to read rhythm. They find this website quite fun, and they enjoy all of the practices in which assign.

A great resource for finding choral music. You can search or click on seasons, styles, composers, etc. This is a very useful site for anyone who teaches choir.

This wiki has thousands of choral works available for use, free of charge. Music can be accessed by season or composer, making locating songs easier.

ChoralWiki is like the wikipedia of choral music. This website has a lot of choral songs that either music teachers composed or even music from the past that was not included with copyright laws. The best part about this website is that all of the music is free!
