    Non è che capisca cosa significhi: ma è una pagina normalmente nascosta del blog about.amara.org il cui link mi è apparso in un momento di connessione lenta, e sembra una cosa interessante: infatti è da oltre un anno che i link sui codici temporali delle trascrizioni generate dai sottotitoli, che dovrebbero consentire la navigazione nel video, non funzionano. Perciò ben venga una trascrizione interattiva funzionante, come su TED.com, DotSUB.com e YouTube.com.

    Queste "pagine nascoste" del blog about di Amara sono strane: un pezzo di codice per embeddare un player con una trascrizione interattiva, comunicati stampa non datati, fra i quali questo: ora la cosa bizzarra è che è da un anno che Coursera ha smesso di usare Amara, e da 10 mesi che ha cancellato il suo team Amara. Il team di Khan Academy c'è ancora, ma è praticamente deserto.

    I am currently investigating file formats for long-term preservation. Obviously they must be free of proprietary ownership and publicly accessible and avoid vendor-locking - even if the vendor is a non-profit organization. What I wonder: which conditions must a video file format fulfill to permit captioning / subtitling? Are there public and open standards of formats for captioning / subtitling? Where do I find them? Can they be enriched with metadata about the author of the subtitles?

  • Il formato GIF usa una compressione conservativa. Questo lo rende adatto a immagini che contengono testo o grafica composta da linee. Si può usare per fare immagini animate.

      Era certamente vero nel 2003, quando J. Nielsen scrisse http://www.nngroup.com/articles/pdf-unfit-for-human-consumption/ . Ma lo è ancora? Nei PDF odierni, a patto che non siano fatti con uno scanner senza OCR, si può selezionare e copiare un brano e si possono leggere con una sintesi vocale o una barra braille. Non significa forse che quei nuovi PDF sono testuali?
  • Anche Inkscape ha un formato di riferimento che conserva tutto ciò che serve per conservare il lavoro fra sessioni successive, è lo SVG. Valgono le stesse considerazioni fatte a proposito del formato XCF di Gimp.

      Poi nei video mostrati sul sito ted.com, il player in realtà può mostrare 2 cose: il video e un file testuale a scelta di sottotitoli. E quei file testuali di sottotitoli producono le trascrizioni interattive in varie lingue che si possono attivare sotto il player. Anche lì si tratta di livelli/layer? Poi quel player di TED.com ha anche una funzione che ti consente invece di scaricare il video con i sottotitoli che vuoi incisi dentro il video, cioè in un unico video. È la stessa cosa che quando lavori con i livelli per produrre un'immagine, o con le piste per produrre un audio, poi esporti il tutto o in jpg o in mp3, ad es.?

Interestingly, none of the phishing sites were hosted on WordPress.com, a a large blog-hosting service run by Automattic. The founder of Automattic was one of the original authors of WordPress and the company still contributes to the WordPress.org open source project. All versions of Microsoft Word, both Mac and Windows, and several related programs like the Word Viewer and Word Automation Services on Microsoft SharePoint Server are also vulnerable, but the current attacks are directed at Microsoft Word 2010. Exploits such as these are often version-specific, and in targeted attacks, such as this appears to be, the attacker may already know which version he needs to exploit. Microsoft also says that Microsoft Outlook could also be exploited with such an RTF file if Word were set as the viewer for Outlook. In the default configuration Word is the viewer in Outlook 2007, 2010 and 2013."
