Die Redaktion des Kraut-Magazin hat verschiedene Fotografen unserer neuen Ausstellung "State of the Art Photography" in einer ganz speziellen Art interviewt: Die Frage wurde wie gewohnt als Text gestellt, die Antwort darauf kam aber jeweils als Foto zurück. Diese Interviews veröffentlichen wir nun auch auf Twitter.Folgen Sie unserem Twitteraccount http://twitter.com/nrw_forum und dem Hashtag #twitview. Die Aktion beginnt morgens um 8 Uhr und läuft im Halbstundentakt den ganzen Tag über. Denn die Künstler haben auf 10 spannende Fragen mit ebenso vielen tollen Fotos geantwortet.

Das ist nur so eine kleine Idee, die ich mit meinem Schwiegervater, der sich gerade für sein Dorfmuseum "Ahle Kram" engagiert, gerade aushecke. Unsere Idee ist es, das Museum digital zum Leben zu erwecken, so dass es Spaß macht sich mit den Dingen darin zu beschäftigen. Unser Plan lautet also: Wir inszenieren einzelne Gegenstände im Museum, die Geschichten über sich und ihre Besitzer erzählen. Gelöst in der ersten Stufe mit einfachen Webwerkzeugen (iPhone, Instagram, Soundcloud)

Ihre Programmhighlights für das kommende Jahr stehen vermutlich schon lange fest. Und sicherlich wissen Sie auch, wie Sie diese - und die vielen anderen Dinge - medial verbreiten. Während es inzwischen zahlreiche Museums-Apps gibt, sind Museen und Kultureinrichtungen im Mobile Web bislang kaum vertreten. Wir sammeln an dieser Stelle Beispiele für Museums-Websites, die für die Nutzung mit dem Browser eines Smartphones angepasst sind. Eine ganz neue Entwicklung: Web Apps, die in ihrer Funktionalität Apps nahe kommen, aber plattformunabhängig über den mobilen Browser aufgerufen werden. German Traces NYC is mobile, augmented reality experience designed to let learners explore German cultural heritage in New York City. One of the most common questions we get is about the use of computers in museum settings.  Are they necessary?  Should museums be putting them in to attract broader audiences?  Do visitors expect them?  Or do visitors come to museums for other reasons?

Vom 15. September bis am 1. Oktober 2011 entstanden in einem unserer Fenster "Archivitäten" zu 130 Jahre Loeb. Dabei handelte es sich um ein Schaufenster, in dem der Kunstblogger Roger Levy öffentlich arbeitete. Er führte Gespräche mit Passanten aber auch mit geladenen Gästen. Letztere wurden aufgezeichnet und sind in diesem Blog hörbar. Auch das Download auf den eigenen Player ist möglich.

This list comprises exhibits, art works, animals, mascots & historical or cultural characters that tweet about the museums or other organisations they 'live' in. Please note that not all of these Twitter accounts are necessarily officially run by the relevant organisations - the names of the organisations have merely been given to place the tweeting exhibits in context!

  I don't mean to belittle the successes that my fellow museum educators have achieved in advocating for the public dimension over the years. But, as one colleague put it when I discussed this blog with her - "[museum educators] have changed the identity of museums, but perhaps have not gained power."  Without this power, in my view, advocates of the public dimension have had and will continue to have great difficulty in fundamentally transforming their institutions. And most of our museums, exhibitions  and programs will continue to look and operate pretty much the same as they always have.

Last month, the Irvine Foundation put out a new report, Getting In On the Act, about participatory arts practice and new frameworks for audience engagement. Authors Alan Brown and Jennifer Novak-Leonard pack a lot into 40 pages--an argument for the rise of active arts engagement, a framework for thinking about ways to actively involve audiences, and lots of case studies. It is framed as a kind of study guide; pop-outs provide questions that tease out opportunities and tensions in the narrative. This report is not an end-all; it is the opening for a conversation.

The ubiquity of mobile devices and the advent of augmented reality provide an opportunity to explore the use of interactive design in what is traditionally a difficult educational space: the art museum. The NGA Experience app (shown here on an iPhone but theoretically platform-agnostic) uses augmented reality to populate the art museum with a digital layer of content that is virtually infinite, yet completely optional for visitors. Such an application of AR in the museum ultimately provides a greater level of control and engagement to the museum visitor and enhances his or her opportunity for a meaningful experience without altering the physical space of the gallery.
