For Walker Open Field, we wanted a way to collect community submitted events and display them on our site. We have our own calendar and we discussed whether adding the events to our internal Calendar CMS was the best way, or if using an outside calendar solution was the direction to go. In the end, we decided to do both, using Google Calendar for community events and our own calendar CMS for Walker-programmed events.

On Friday 31 October 2003 the Victoria and Albert Museum staged its fifth Day of Record event, Gothic: A Night of Record. Day of Record is a series of events cataloguing applied and decorative arts in relation to the body.

Housed in a landmark industrial building on the south bank of the River Tyne in Gateshead, BALTIC is a major international centre for contemporary art. BALTIC has no permanent collection, providing instead an ever-changing calendar of exhibitions and events that give a unique and compelling insight into contemporary artistic practice. BALTIC's dynamic, diverse and international programme ranges from blockbuster exhibitions to innovative new work and projects created by artists working within the local community.

Amplified is a not-for-profit organization that uses social media to enable and encourage community participation around events, conferences and public conversations. The Amplified team facilitates and documents the sharing of ideas, opinions and resources, and aggregates this content online to enable the conversations from all parties to continue and spread.

HERE IS NEW YORK is not a conventional gallery show. It is something new, a show tailored to the nature of the event, and to the response it has elicited. The exhibition is subtitled "A Democracy of Photographs" because anyone and everyone who has taken pictures relating to the tragedy was invited to submit their images to the gallery, where they were digitally scanned, printed and displayed on the walls alongside the work of top photojournalists and other professional photographers.

BarCamp Community-Wiki: ... is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from participants who are the main actors of the event.

On Saturday 29 April 2000 the V&A staged its first Day of Record, a proposed series of events cataloguing applied and decorative arts in relation to the body. Over 1500 tattooed people visited the Museum on that day to have their artworks photographed for inclusion in the V&A digital archive of tattoos. This site is the product of that day.

Cultural Heritage and the Semantic Web British Museum & UCL Study Day - Jan 13th The World Wide Web is an essential part of the Museum's toolkit for publishing information, engaging visitors and communicating across the globe. However, museum web sites and information systems are still largely silos that make it difficult for us to realize the benefits of bringing data together. The growing momentum of the Semantic Web movement means a greater investment in the technology and tools needed to convert its potential into practical opportunities that museums can utilise. Und: "A museum object is more like an illustration, or witness of the past, than information in its own right. Cultural historical research means understanding 'possible pasts', the facts, events, material, social and psychological influences and motivations. It lives from understanding contexts, by pulling together bits and pieces of related facts from disparate resources, which can typically not be classified under subjects in an obvious way. It lives from taking into account all known facts." 

The Mobile for the Cultural Sector Conference will include a wide variety of people from across the Global cultural sector and the technology sector and will bring together the 200+ senior figures from: * museum, gallery and cultural sector curators, directors and board members * digital specialists * commercial strategists * pr and marketing teams * fund-raising and development specialists * quangos and leadership and training bodies * mobile app, website and marketing developers * advertising, planning and creative advertising agencies * network operators, handset manufacturers and technology leaders

Last week, Jim Richardson and I hosted MuseumNext, a 24-hour workshop for museum professionals focused on bringing new, wild museum projects into the world. It was held in Newcastle in the north of England, and about 70 folks from around the world (but mostly Europe) came to play, learn, make stuff, and help each other work out challenges inherent in trying to make risky ideas happen. Thank you to everyone who came and helped co-create an exciting experimental event in a beautiful city.

Get inspired by the talk of Jonathan Harris at the 2007 Pop! Tech event - educative and entertaining, amusing and touching at the same time. Jonathan is the creator of inspiring and playful applications like "We Feel Fine" or "I Want You To Want Me".

Eleven projects result from the first two calls for proposals under FP7. Start dates are between November 2007 and February 2009/25 research projects have been launched and will be running up to 2009.
