"Is Crowdsourcing killing traditional design practice was published on 1st Sept and has received a fair bit of comment. I'm particularly interested to explore the potential for designers to expand their practice and capacity through social networks! ABC Radio By Design has invited me to speak on 7th October. I'm pretty keen to get more comments on the value of this concept so please feel free to add your thoughts!"
Sparked by previous discussions, I wonder if anyone is aware of any successful projects/tools that allow users to geotag resources on the web (or to contribute corrections/enhancements to things already tagged)
I was reminded of these two design principles when exploring the Johnny Cash Project, a crowd-created music video for a posthumous recording of Cash singing "Ain't No Grave." To construct the video, artist Chris Milk assembled images and footage of Johnny Cash in a sequence along with the song. That's hardly revolutionary. But what happened next is: Milk created a simple tool to invite visitors to augment the frames of the video with digital brushstrokes. The result is a beautiful animated video that composites together alternative frames created by participants all over the world.
Pepsi's Refresh Project is just over a month old now and based on what we've seen so far, is becoming the poster-child for successful blending of social responsibility and branding. Our own Kelli Peterson enthused as much in her early assessment of the campaign. While Pepsi isn't the first to use crowd sourcing for innovation - check out IdeaStorm or Reckitt Benckiser's idealink - we hope this application for the greater good is just the start of a long-term trend. What will changing innovation processes mean for design practitioners?

Tate Britain displays British art from 1500 to today. Yes, it's a museum, but it's also like a big living room. All those works of art are yours.
Tate has devised a new way of looking at the Displays with a range of themed 'Collections'. These suggest a number of personal journeys you could take, reflecting different moods and enthusiasms and revealing the extraordinary breadth of work on show.
HERE IS NEW YORK is not a conventional gallery show. It is something new, a show tailored to the nature of the event, and to the response it has elicited. The exhibition is subtitled "A Democracy of Photographs" because anyone and everyone who has taken pictures relating to the tragedy was invited to submit their images to the gallery, where they were digitally scanned, printed and displayed on the walls alongside the work of top photojournalists and other professional photographers.
The Portable Antiquities Scheme is a voluntary scheme to record archaeological objects found by members of the public in England and Wales. Every year many thousands of objects are discovered, many of these by metal-detector users, but also by people whilst out walking, gardening or going about their daily work. Such discoveries offer an important source for understanding our past.
