How to Evaluate Online Success? A New Piece of Action Research | conference.archimuse.com - 1 views

  •
"How to measure and define the success of cultural websites and online services is a problem common to all parts of the cultural sector - museums, archives, galleries, arts organizations, libraries and publishers. Worse, funding agencies and government departments lack the expertise to offer guidelines or set standards. The result is a confusing mixture of statistics and reporting that reveals little about genuine user satisfaction."

I Don't Know Much About Art But I Know What's Online - 0 views

  •
o one can have a "museum experience" without stepping foot in a museum. Let's just get that out of the way. It doesn't matter how digitally precise your online version of "The Forge of Vulcan" is, tilting your head to draw the light across the raised ridges of paint is not an electronically duplicable experience. That doesn't mean digital art collections don't have great value. After all, art books do. So here are half a dozen great digital art collections you can visit to inspire your own trip, or your own thinking about art, or to remind yourself or to learn a bit for no other reason than digital art is better by far than no art at all. In order to keep from wandering off the path never to be seen again, let's focus on Western painting.

Axel Kopp » Blog Archive » Der Museumsmensch - 1 views

On Saturday 29 April 2000 the V&A staged its first Day of Record, a proposed series of events cataloguing applied and decorative arts in relation to the body. Over 1500 tattooed people visited the Museum on that day to have their artworks photographed for inclusion in the V&A digital archive of tattoos. This site is the product of that day.

"My 2-year-old daughter surprised me recently with two words: "Daddy's book." She was holding my Kindle electronic reader." Dazu auf ReadWrite: "Virtual worlds like ToonTown and Club Penguin are particularly popular with kids right now. In a recent New York Times article, University of California cultural anthropologist Mizuko Ito claimed that "children who play these games would see less of a distinction between their online friends and real friends." He also said that these types of online virtual worlds make kids "more likely to participate actively in their own entertainment" - in comparison to us oldies who grew up watching TV from the couch." Where Do We Go From Here? Continuing with Web 2.0 at the Brooklyn Museum "As we moved forward with Web 2.0 and social media in 2007, we had two objectives in mind while overhauling earlier initiatives and creating new projects for visitors: * Keep it real: We aimed to personalize content as much as possible, since Web 2.0 for the Brooklyn Museum is all about social connections and growing communities. * Deliver content their way: Museum surveys have shown that visitors want to consume more information in shorter visits. Hence, we wanted to allow our audiences to easily receive information from the Museum, and dynamically share it with others. We continued to focus on our community-oriented, visitor-centered mission, and these goals became paramount as we thought about (and adjusted) our early initiatives; they also served as philosophical barometers when we created new projects.
