The Impact of Blogs and Other Social Media on the Life of a Curator - 0 views

  •
Museums are quickly adapting to Web 2.0, and engaging with a new on-line audience. Social media projects are being developed and used by museum staff, and curators are starting to explore this new space. When the Powerhouse Museum's curatorial department created their first blog, they had no idea what they were in for, or what challenges they would face. They also had little idea of how curators as a whole are participating in social media activities. This paper will use the Powerhouse Museum's 'Object of the Week' blog and a major international survey of curators to investigate how social media activities are impacting on curatorial practice.

Audience 2.0: How Technology Influences Arts Participation (Multi-Media Version) - 2 views

  •
This report describes the demographic characteristics of U.S. adults that participated in the arts (such as concerts, plays, and dance performances) via electronic media (e.g., TV, radio, computers and portable media devices) in 2008, based on the Survey of Public Participation in the Arts (SPPA). Separately, the report examines broad categories of arts participation via Internet. The report also investigates factors contributing to the likelihood of some Americans experiencing art through media. Finally, the report considers the relationship between media-based arts activities and other types of arts participation, such as live attendance and personal arts creation. June 2010. 146 pp.

The Face-Off: Mobile Web (and not Apps) are the Right Choice | MobileActive.org - 1 views

  •
This article provides an overview for anyone producing content about these two options. We argue that most content producers should focus on the mobile web, especially if they want to make their content more widely accessible. Mobile apps may be appropriate if looking for new sources of revenue, or deep user engagement, but many other factors make the mobile web the more sensible platform for most content producers.

Disposition « Museen im Zeitalter des Web 2.0 - 3 views

  •

The Museum of the Future » Timing is everything - When do people consume your... - 1 views

  •
With the rise of new media a paradigm shift has occurred in the time when people "consume" museums. In the old days people would pick a specific moment to visit a museum. Maybe dress up a bit, make it a day out. On an average they would pick two, maybe three moments a year to spend time with museums. Nowadays, using Twitter and Facebook, we try to make people interact with museums twenty-four seven. They don't even have to be dressed to "visit" a museum.

Digitale Außenseiter in Deutschland in der Überzahl » t3n News - 0 views

  •

PaperC - Replacing the Library Photocopier - Playpen - 0 views

  •
"A recently launched service in Germany called PaperC (Twitter: @Paper_c) looks like it might become a pretty handy resource for students and researchers. It is an online library of commonly used textbooks for studying. You can read all of them online for free, but you can also download PDFs, make notes and bookmarks, and copy and paste quotes. The latter functions cost something, but not much. A PDF of 10 pages costs 1 Euro. The idea is not that it replaces books, as such, but replaces the photocopier. So far they have 2,799 books in their library."

How Twitter Use Has Changed, From 2009 to 2010 - 1 views

  •
It's been a good year for Twitter, and not merely because the company announced yesterday it has secured another huge round of funding. The microblogging platform has grown by over 100 million users this year and expanded its staff from 130 to 350 people. And it's rolled out major redesigns and improvements to its site, mobile apps and APIs.
