The Face-Off: Mobile Web (and not Apps) are the Right Choice | MobileActive.org - 1 views

  •
This article provides an overview for anyone producing content about these two options. We argue that most content producers should focus on the mobile web, especially if they want to make their content more widely accessible. Mobile apps may be appropriate if looking for new sources of revenue, or deep user engagement, but many other factors make the mobile web the more sensible platform for most content producers.

Object Stories: Rejecting the Single Story in Museums « Art Museum Teaching - 0 views

  •
Launched in March 2010, Object Stories invites visitors to record their own narratives about personal objects-whether a piece of clothing, a cherished record album, or a family heirloom.  By capturing, honoring, and sharing participants' stories, this project aims to demystify the Museum, making it more accessible, welcoming, and meaningful to a greater diversity of communities - while continuing to highlight the inherent relationship between people and things.  Nearly one thousand people from throughout Portland-most of who had never before set foot in the Museum-have participated as storytellers in this project.

Web & Social Media Play Leading Role in Public's Decision to Visit a Museum (STUDY) - 0 views

  •
Potential museum visitors access information about the organization and decide if they want to visit by using web-based sites such as a museum's website, social media platforms, and peer-review sites over more "traditional" forms of advertising. In fact, when comparing how folks get their information about leisure activities, it's not even close: web and mobile platforms (including social media) are disproportionately influencing your museum's visitation and attendance.

3DVisA was funded between 2006 and 2008 by the UK Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC). The Network was hosted by King's Visualisation Lab in the Centre for Computing in the Humanities at King's College London. It was an integral part of a wider UK Visualisation Support Network, VizNET, spanning the UK academic research community. This website documents some of 3DVisA activities and provides access to publications and resources created in 2006-2008, some of which continue to be maintained by King's Visualisation Lab. 3DVisA was also the Secretariat of The London Charter for the use of three-dimensional Visualisation in the Research and Communication of Cultural Heritage.

"Sente 6 is the next-generation academic reference manager. Sente helps you find, organize, review and cite the academic literature in your field, and it does it in ways that you have probably not thought possible before. Sente also helps you build and maintain your library of PDF files for these references, because having ready access to the full text of important articles can be critical. Sente also excels at properly formatting bibliographies in your papers, but you probably already knew that. "

A small JISC grant has enabled a group of us to give public access tohistorical maps from the National Library of Scotland and Landmark (OSmaps).  The maps centre around Edinburgh but there is also a map from 1890 forLondon. It's a free app for the iPhone at the moment and if we have enoughsuccess we're hoping to encourage Landmark to release the maps for theentire UK. We'd appreciate any thoughts or comments from the museum group.
