Get a Grasp on Guests with Hospitality Industry Marketing Analytics | MaassMedia | E-Ma... - 0 views

  • 55% of all leisure and business reservations are expected to be made online for 2013 (PhoCusWright), which means measuring and optimizing a hotel’s digital marketing is more important than ever before.
  • The average conversion rate for hotel websites is about 2%. In other words, approximately 98% of visitors to a hotel’s website leave without making a reservation. This suggests that the hotel industry could be doing significantly more to capitalize on visitors’ interest. It is imperative that hotels utilize the right data in the right way to paint a clearer picture of how their audience interacts with their marketing.
  • Hotel franchisors can also capitalize on trends in their data. For example, if there is a substantial increase in searches for a particular destination, brands can recommend that their franchisees in that location raise their rates because of the spike in demand. This could substantially improve the revenue that the franchise’s website generates.

  • Many independent hotels haven’t implemented any data analytics on their websites. Without even a basic implementation, hotel owners are missing out on important insights about their clientele. For example, most hotels offer some assortment of packages to their guests, but if hotels aren’t using analytics, they can’t know which packages are most and least popular with certain types of visitors. By tracking purchases only, they miss out on seeing how many guests viewed the package but chose not to purchase it.
  • Similarly, if the hotel offers services like banquet halls or catering, web analytics can shed light onto visitors’ level of interest and the best ways to market those services online. Are guests searching to sign up for loyalty membership? Do they want to book meetings or events in a particular city or region? Are they more or less price sensitive? Analytics enables hotel brands to gather data that can answer these questions. If utilized correctly, it can be a tremendous asset to improving a revenue management and building a customer relationship management (CRM) system.
  •
The article give a specific description of the importance of marketing analytics in hospitality industry. It can provide a ways to better understand guests' purchasing and staying behavior, as well as audience engagement across a variety of marketing channels.

How Much PMS Do You Really Need? - 1 views

  • Several vendors are developing new systems, though none have yet approached the rich functionality of older products with years of enhancements built into them.  At the same time, many multiproperty brands are looking to replace their existing standard property management systems, but as their strategic emphasis has shifted from central reservations (CRS) to customer relationship management (CRM) they’ve been wondering whether the new PMS really needs to have as much functionality as the old one.
  • Some brands developed their own PMSs, such as Marriott’s FSPMS and FOSSE, Starwood’s Galaxy and Hilton’s OnQ; others standardized on third-party systems. However, in all cases they mandated only the PMS and left it up to the individual properties to decide what to use for their other operational areas.  As a result, several vendors who concentrated on chain-hotel business focused on producing pure PMSs, with functionality covering the traditional core of individual and group reservations, check-in/checkout, folio charges, housekeeping/rooms management and the all-important CRS interface. MSI, RoomKey, Galaxy, SkyTouch and Infor’s epitome and HMS are examples.
  • Other vendors looking more to the independent and resort market expanded their PMSs to include sales and catering, spa/golf/activity management, CRM and sometimes even POS, both retail and food and beverage. For this segment of the market these integrated PMS applications (from vendors such as Agilysys, IQware, NORTHWIND and PAR Springer-Miller Systems) became their most strategic system. A few companies (including Cenium, IDS, Indra and Prologic First) have taken it even further, extending out into full ERPs that cover every operational area including financial and supply chain operations. MICROS falls between the two camps, offering a well-integrated PMS/S&C/CRS suite but relying on third parties for guest activity management and financial systems.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • If you’re an owner/manager of a new-build property, there’s a great deal in favor of having as comprehensive a system as you can get, even up to the ERP level of one system managing the complete operation.  If you’re the owner or manager of a franchised brand property you have no say in which PMS to use anyway, though you’ll get the best results if all your other management systems are as well-integrated as they can be amongst themselves as well as interfacing with the PMS.
  • The real world being what it is, properties seldom fall into one segment or the other. Commercial city center hotels often need sales and catering systems, and many have added spas or other guest activities. Pure PMS vendors therefore developed good interfaces to link up with the third-party vendors’ systems typically used to manage these areas. Conversely, properties in the independent and resort world often already had existing point solutions in specific areas, and so vendors typically made their systems very modular and developed interfaces to link to the other vendors’ products until such time as they could, perhaps, replace them with their own modules.
  • Given the varied demands of the different market segments, there will always need to be a mix of vendor approaches, but whatever else it’s attached to, a well-designed, intuitive and well-interfaced PMS module is still the core of operational success at every property.
  •
It gives a discription of how nowadays'  hotels develop and use of their PMS. Some brands develop their own PMS such as Marriott and Starwood; some look more to the independent and resort market expanded their PMS. It seems that we don't need so much kinds of PMS and so many function. According to the analysis of the market and demand, it comes the conclusion that a well- designed, intuitive and well-interfaced PMS module is still the core of operational success at every property.

This police and security cutback is especially challenging to every form of tourism: from hotels to attractions, from restaurants to transportation providers. To help you place this need in perspective, consider the following:

  • It may be an overstatement to say that relationships are everything, but not a huge one. The people we spend time with largely determine the opportunities that are available to us. As venture capitalist and entrepreneur Rich Stromback told me in a series of interviews, “Opportunities do not float like clouds in the sky. They are attached to people.”

A restaurant was running a business smoothly until the new owner had decided to change the POS system to a new one. The whole system stopped working because of the power. After long two weeks they had finally realized that it simply can not function without the power protection... The owner says that the experience was priceless.

Though the idea of seamless online booking connectivity seems to be a good thing, it still appears to rely primarily on the hotels existing relationships with the major booking websites. Without those, the investment in the advanced technology may not provide the ROI that the hotels are looking for.

Do Robots Have a Real Future in the Hospitality Industry? - Skift - 0 views

  • Starwood’s Aloft Hotels announced earlier this month the introduction of a robot “Boltr” to aid check-ins and deliver items to guest rooms. Royal Caribbean followed suit with the announcement of robot bartenders on its newest ship Quantum of the Seas.
  •
While is may seem like the future promised to us on shows like "The Jetsons" may have never really arrived, we might be one step closer to seeing the gadgets and gizmos of the cartoon world become a reality in the hospitality industry. Starwood's Aloft Hotels, an upscale, modern hotel line that appeals to Millennials, recently introduced Boltr - a check-in and delivery robot. This machine was created by Savioke - a Silicon-Valley design firm. Like other startups, Savioke aims to minimize unnecessary work and increase efficiency. There is no reason an employee needs to be paid to walk back and forth to deliver items when a robot can do the job. Royal Caribbean has also introduced its own robot, specifically for bartending, in its new luxury cruise ship, Quantum of the Seas.  Hotel staff unions see robots as a potential threat to their member-employees. Nonetheless, robots replacing employees is not just unique to the hospitality industry.
  •
Very much like the computerized bartender we've already studied, when does automation become too much? We are a "high touch" industry that relies heavily on our guest relationships. The human wait staff can make the guest feel welcome and spoiled (isn't that why we go on cruises in the first place?), the robot cannot. Let the machine prepare the perfect drink, then let the bartender add a smile and place it in the hands of the guest. It'll keep them coming back for more.

Integrating the two philosophies and approaches can lead to productive new strategies to benefit both employees and guests.

Frontline teams can explain to IT how guests react and what type of communication would be helpful to them and enhance service delivery. Developing effective working relationships between these two very different employee ‘cultures’ may seem obvious but is often neglected and that’s when misunderstandings occur.
  • Other areas impacted by the IT/frontline interface include the hotel’s website, customer loyalty tracking systems, data collection, meeting planner specs, reviews and responses to them and especially now social media.
  • Include and provide Guest Service training to all employees involved in IT or technology efforts. If any services are outsourced, make sure a representative of that company or key points of contact are integrated into the hotel’s guest service philosophy and standards
  • Design service standards for the IT team
  • Focus on internal communications between the IT teams and other parts of the hotel or business
  •
This article describes the importance of investing in training between front of house personnel, and the IT department. While maintaining the efficiency of both of these departments is half the battle, it is also important to make sure they understand each others roles and needs in challenging situations. Cross training for both of these departments enhances the guest experience, and helps both teams understand the other more.

Proximity Marketing in 2018 and the market forecast for 2022 | Beaconstac - 0 views

  • Proximity Marketing in 2018 and the market forecast for 2022
  • Proximity-based marketing isn’t a new concept. It has been around for decades. Whether it’s giving out flyers in the busiest part of the city or hiring a sign spinner to drive sales, it has always relied on location-based marketing.
  • With the dawn of the World Wide Web, marketers were able to target consumers using their IP address.

  • In 2018, consumers have evolved to avoid spam Consumers have become exceedingly aware of marketing tactics. According to research, 69% of people who use text messages reported receiving unwanted spam and text messages. 25% of those people face this issue weekly. Proximity based marketing takes care of unwanted spam by showing only hyper-local relevant ads to consumers
  • Google’s competing Eddystone technology that debuted in 2015, can trigger URLs and web pages directly without an app on Android.
  • The Eddystone protocol designed by Google negates the need of having an app on Android phones
  • Not requiring an app to receive notifications allows marketers to target a much wider audience
  • People in stores, on the move who are inside buildings or on the sidewalk and have their data switched off cannot receive any digital advertisements. This segment of people are not being targeted through digital or traditional marketing.
  • Using location based marketing, brands and marketers can show relevant targeted ads.
  • The game changed in the 2000s when smartphones took off and GPS, geofencing and geo-targeting came into the picture.
  • People today love personalised recommendations
  • According to the ‘Trends in Personalisation study,’ 96% of all marketers agree that personalisation advances customer relationships. 88% have reported a measurable rise in business resulting from their personalisation campaigns. Which is why, proximity marketing is a notch above the rest.
  • Introduction of BLE smart technology and Bluetooth Mesh Leaving the Bluetooth switched on pre-2010 meant massive battery drainage. With Bluetooth low energy, people are more prone to leaving their Bluetooth on. After every new iOS update, Bluetooth is automatically switched on.
  • WiFi and beacons can also work in conjunction to provide better services, even prompting users to turn on their Bluetooth.
  • Privacy is a major concern
  • There is no personal identifiable data that is collected from users making it more compliant to laws and regulations globally.
  • There are more mobile devices than people in the world. Proximity marketing makes good use of this fact.
  • n fact, proximity marketing isn’t just limited to mobile devices. Wearables can also receive beacon notifications. The global wearables market is all set to reach 126.1 million units in 2019.

How Technology Is Changing the Role of Travel Agents | TTS - 2 views

  • “There’s an app for that!” Technology has already made it easier for travelers to book their own reservations, search the web for getaway destinations (and great travel packages), and run cost comparisons for their travel and accommodations – all through tapping the app.
  • GDSs, high traffic portal travel sites, and start-up agencies can access similar flight and hotel booking systems. This helps agents quickly filter travel options for their clients; it also enables travelers to do self-service booking independently of an agency.
  • Customer service is becoming easier, faster, and more cost-effective. Social media is one technology tool that enables a small staff to handle large numbers of inquiries, forward automated alerts to update travelers on delays and wait times and share interesting industry information
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Gamification is not just a newer cost-management incentive program. Gamification is another way technology is meeting travelers’ demands for more enriched travel experiences
  • Among the more important technologies, a travel agent must employ are mobile technology, social media, and the human touch.
  • Social media is one of the more significant tools major businesses are employing to build brand awareness and customer relationships.
  •
The role of travel agents has changed drastically over the last 30 years. When once you needed a travel agent to do all of your bookings for you, you now have access to all of these tools and can create your own travel experience. Therefore, today's travel agent needs to be tech savvy and must keep up with the trends and provide their clients with the most up to date travel information. They also must have an online presence, specifically social media that shows their "personality" and helps with marketing. As long as agents can keep up with the ever changing technologies, clients will go to agents for the "human touch" and real first hand experience.

How to Choose the Best POS System for Your Small Business - 0 views

  •
This article is a good overview of POS benefits. Although it is also a sales pitch, I thought it was worth posting it because it serves as a general guide for different business applications. As the concept of smart cash register is becoming the norm, the new trend for modern businesses is point of sale. Regular cash registers simply record sales, give change, and store money. Moreover, they don't even take credit card payments since you need a separate processor for it. Yet, POS systems not only take credit card payments but also cash, can provide detailed sales reports and analytics, marketing tools, customer relationship management, and loyalty programs, just to name a few. It can also tell us the busiest times of day or week, the best-selling items, when stock is running low, and how many are new or returning customers. It can even be used to manage employees' schedule. For bars and restaurants, a POS with menu options that can split the check and accept cash seems like a good choice. For retail stores, the most appropriate POS will provide inventory management and could be connected to a bar code scanner and receipt printer. For contractors, a mobile POS that can be used in offline mode or remote locations would be the best option. Because a POS can be adapted and customized to different business needs, it will soon become business standard.

How Event Planning And Hospitality Intersect — The Everwall Blog - 0 views

  •
This article answers two major questions; what is the connection between event management and the hospitality field? Why exactly is event planning considered to fall under the umbrella of hospitality? The link between event planning and hospitality is that the set of skills needed to succeed in the various hospitality-related careers is similar to those required to be a successful event planner. Some of these skills include quick thinking, in-depth understanding of logistics, strong organizational streak and maintaining good relationships with people. Both require having the ability to understand and meet of the customers without exceeding the budget. Just like running a business, hosting an event is a difficult job and requires a person with the ability to handle pressure. The article concludes by stating that though people in the two fields may face different challenges, the approach of solving these challenges remains the same.

I’m not surprised that travel agents have seen a rise in usage of the last few years, especially among millennials who try to outsource time intensive activities.

The following article explains why many people expected travel agencies to go extinct once Expedia started being used and all the reasons why that did not end up happening. In todays age there are still many people that use travel agents, in fact the article even states that there have been spikes of usage in recent years. It speculates that this might be because of millennials always using the easiest and quickest ways of getting things done. In fact the simplicity of travel agents is one of the main reasons many people use it along with their ability to get package deals, assist with group or complicated trips, their ability to get discounts, and they prevent problems.
