Why Mobile POS? - 0 views

  • Let’s look at this from three different perspectives and consider how mobile POS impacts the customer, the manager/owner, and the staff.
  • The customer never loses sight of their card as it is swiped in front of them.
  • Another personalized benefit for customers is the fact that because the server can do so much more at the table and less walking around,  guests receive faster and attentive service as well as having their expectations immediately set and met.
  • ...4 more annotations...
  • For management, the order-to-service cycle runs more quickly, enabling you to serve more guests and shorten wait times to keep potential guests from walking out.
  • Building and maintaining a brand is of the highest importance today and this type of solution creates the perception of an innovative, forward-thinking restaurant.
  • A mobile POS allows the server to deliver more attentive service, validating every modifier and detail in front of the guest.
  • Moreover, this recent TV coverage shows that servers that use a mobile POS give better service, resulting in increased tips and a stronger attachment to both the customer and the restaurant.
  •
Here, NCR reviews the how Mobile POS impacts customers, manager/owrners, and the staff beyond the general buzz and excitement of being able to pay for your dining via mobile device. Starting with the benefits to the customer, it is noted that there is added security for the customer because it is no longer required for the server to take the customer's card away from the table to take payment. The customer never loses sight of their card. As a result the guest is not overcharged for their tip, something that can happen often and they can be assured of the amount they are paying. Another added benefit for the guest is faster more attentive service, with expectations immediately set and met. If something is no longer available in the kitchen, it does not show up on the screen. Preventing the customer from setting an expectation for something that is not available. From a manger's perspective, Mobile POS shortens the order-to-service cycle. This shortens the wait time for potential guests and enables the establishment to serve more people more quickly. Also, having the ordering available table side, it will lead to fewer comps. So they are able to generate more money by serving more guests, and keep money because orders are taken and verified tableside. Having Mobile POS available also adds to the reputation of the establshment. It makes them seem more forward thinking and innovative. Finally, the article sites the benefits for the servers. It first helps server-to-customer relations by verifying every detail of the order right in front of the guest. The server is able to get the order right and be more attentive to the guest by having to do less walking. The server is able to have a higher level of productivity. And because they are more productive and able to provide better service, this results in increase tips and stronger attachment to both the customer and the restaurant.

FBI: Beware Of Malware Installed Via Hotel Networks - Forbes - 0 views

  • malware that are being pushed through hotel internet connections.

This article brings to light security threats that are transfered via hotel networks. Fake software updates are used to hide malware which is installed on the computer when the update is accepted. The FBI offers tips on how to avoid being exposed to this after data on several hundred firms was stolen by hackers. The hackers broke into Marriott International Inc.'s records and had access confidential information. This article is important because firms have the responsibility of providing security for the clients as well as themselves. It is important to be aware of threats like this and of how it can be avoided so that the firm isn't put in a bad situation and have to deal with stolen information. With mobile devices and wireless networks becoming more common these types of threats need to be taken into consideration. Most users don't read the fine print or consider where software updates are coming from, especially if it looks like the source is a hotel they are staying at. This makes it even more critical that the hotel is aware of and blocking these threat because claiming that it was done without the knowledge of the hotel may not always be enough and looks badly for the security.

Aptech Computer Systems INC announced four hotel companies have selected Aptech's financial solutions software. All four of these hotel companies represent 17 properties that mange their own hotels. This software is a fully integrated accounting system that has business intelligence and focuses on hotels in the hospitality industry. Aptech can either host the system, or the client or a third party can. The system also helps to maintain data security, maintenance, and updates. This is one of the most widely used Business Intelligence systems throughout the industry. I think the idea of accounting software for hotels in the hospitality industry is important because there are different aspects to hotels than other businesses. A hotel sells an experience instead of a product, so there are different focuses when working on an accounting statement. The system can help a hotel focus on what only pertains to them instead of other businesses. I find the system to be interesting and useful because it can help accountants' only focus on hotel related business.

The website is a key to establish interactive relationship with customers and capture client email profiles by the company. In hospitality industry, especially the travel agency frequently use the emarketing to retain the loyalty, and offer accurate communication. The permission-based email marketing is very useful and practical for sending the promotional emails. And the precision e-mail marketing used by the airlines has generated up to a fivefold increase in response rates and tenfold lower conversion costs than direct mail. As this class teaches us, along with this article, " the marketing power of the Internet in terms of reach and frequency." This article in particular speaks about the advantages of email marketing. With the low cost for companies in the hospitality industry, email marketing can produce positive results form the masses. The article goes on to explain how and why email marketing have been seen to be so efficient as a marketing tool. One obvious pro for instance is that everyone uses emails in today's society. After reading this article I can agree that email marketing is a very good way to put the internet to use when it comes to marketing. My concern, however, as mentioned in the article is the control the receiver has with the emails. For instance, how many emails are too much, too frequent or just not relevant? Features today have given the consumer the opportunity to now have a bit of control over this issue as I have mentioned. I believe this may be one of, if not the best form of marketing online because it gets directly to the customer, usually requires interaction whether to the main website or further clicking for deals, and sets up a format in which sufficient information can be given.
  •
Many hospitality managers choose email for its low cost, rapid spread, and measurability. There is an incline to online purchasing, which means that Internet is the place to establish relationships with your customer, through email for instance. Email can be easily personalized, include only relevant promotions, and be a tool to keep in touch with your regular and new customers. Permission-based email is sent only to customers who have allowed to be emailed, thus, you are targeting people who gave you permission and who most likely are interested in your product/service. Email is also a better tool because it is cheaper and faster than regular mail. Also, it is easier to track the results, using the tools to see who opened the email, clicked on the link, etc. There are key factors to remember in order to be successful: -interactive relationships -frequency -personalize and relevance -permission-based The article provides a rationale for implementing total email marketing strategy.

Hey all, Here is an article I found about a POS system that is supported by either an IPAD or an Iphone device. There are many pros to buying a system like this for a company that is just starting out. If someone is having problem you can call and the ISISPOS system will provide 24 hours a day customer service. Because the world is getting faster and more demanding, it is becoming necessary to find other ways of pleasing the customer in a more efficient manner. With this technology, one has the ability to be completely mobile and is not restricted to conventional forms of typical POS problems. It is affordable and easy to use. With cloud computing, your business can save an enormous amount of money versus sticking to the traditional infrastructure. Instead of buying new hardware and software every so often, one can now rest easy with cloud computing technology because it updates on its own and has the ability to be accessed from anywhere, even home! It is literally like having your business in the palm of your hand.

Great Post! Two days ago, I had the opportunity to visit a restaurant where the staff utilized an iPad to take the orders. This was a non-franchise restaurant; I can't imagine how much money the owners spent on such technology. The food came out quickly, I am not sure if the utilization of the iPad helped expedite our order, however it was done quickly. Once we asked for our check, the server was able to send the request to a printer and brought the ticket very fast. I wanted to play with it, but didn't feel comfortable asking the server.
  •
I really enjoyed getting to know more about these POS systems that are supported by Iphones and Ipads. They seem to be very advantageous to restaurants, and I agree with your point that they do not provide the typical POS problems. I feel that the cloud computing technology has really made these systems entirely beneficial. These systems are getting closer to becoming virtually perfected.

Because of the global terrorism and political unrest, hospitality as a vulnerable target must take action to prevent terrorism. One big problem is how to keep customers and employees safe without ruin customer's experience. This is said because customers in the United States pay less attention to security while enjoying their vacation. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the hospitality industry to make sure that their customers are safe. There is a couple of ways to protect customers under terrorism. For example, using biometric technology to recognize and monitor suspicious person. Using explosive detection animals to monitor public areas, and installing crash rated fencing and pop up barriers, etc.

Top 5 Data and Network Threats for Restaurants... And What To Do About Them - 0 views

  •
This article was very interesting because it talked about how you can avoid network treats when it comes to your hospitality business. I like the first step in misconfigured remote access tools, which allows hackers to really guess the password that you put. They had an idea in where if you were to guess the password right, you still have to do something a second time just to make sure that the person is not an impostor. You have to always check that your software security is up to date because if not people can really affect your compare, which is not good at all. If you have everything up to date, you most likely will not get any virus that will make your computer/system slow. You should also always secure your WI FI because a person does not have to be in a restaurant to use the WI FI and get into the restaurant system. So you always want to have separate critical network from wireless network. We also learned in this article that in the computers in a restaurant you should always have antivirus so that you do not catch anything that might get infected. You should not plug in anything that you know has been infected by virus into your companies company because they computer will catch it and thief's can get into it. You should restrict access to the Internet form the internal network. Your goal is to keep any virus or make it hard for a hacker to get into your system in your company to steal your information especially guest personal information, which is very important.

Why is GDS important to the travel industry? - 0 views

  • The Global Distribution System (GDS) is a primary reservation tool for travel agents. And unless you are brand new to the travel business, you probably have used the GDS many times during each work day. But what is GDS, and why is it important to the travel industry? What do you know about GDS? GDS is a network/platform that enables travel agencies and their clients to access travel data, shop for and compare reservations options, and book travel. GDS networks like the system operated by Travelport generate billions of dollars in global travel sales.
  • The importance of GDS to travel agents? Imagine a large room with large round tables. Seated around each table are airline reservation employees. As a ticketing request is called in, a reservationist reaches out toward a very large rotating Lazy Susan placed on each table. The Lazy Susan has cubby holes that house index file cards; each card represents an airline flight. The reservationist pulls a card, marks it to indicate a seat is booked; a ticket is manually written, the phone call is concluded, and the index card is returned to its cubby hole. The process for one reservation takes between 90 minutes and 3 hours. The year is 1953. The modern GDS system evolved from this early labour-intensive manual system, thanks to the collaborative team efforts of American Airlines (AA) and IBM.  The result of that collaboration? The first airline industry mainframe-based system, SABRE.
  •
I really enjoyed reading this article, because it gave me more insight as to why we travel agents are still important even with advanced technology(GDS). Then it also explains how people use the GDS system and don't even notice it. Last tells you what it thinks the future of this GDS will will bring worldwide.
  •
In this article it talks about how the Global Distribution System is a tool used for travel agents. Agencies get information from a airline, hotel, car rentals, through the GDS system. I learned that the three main GDS system are Amadeus, Sabre, and Travelport. Travel agency uses GDS system way more now because it is easier for them to look for the best rates and accommodation that they can for their client. Today, GDS are still big business and companies will continue using it. The GDS system puts your hotel in front of a lot of travel agents and travelers. It is very important to put your company on the global market because clients are traveling more frequently and traveling farther everywhere. The GDS is not the answer for every company because it does cost money.

Current Trends and Opportunities in Hotel Sustainability. - Friday, 10th February 2012 ... - 0 views

shared by ramomar4 on 27 Feb 17 - No Cached
  • Current thought in facility management, and specifically hospitality operations, is largely focused on optimizing operational efficiency (and the resultant cost savings) in primarily three areas: energy, water, and waste.
  • Cost savings. The realization of a bottom line financial return from implementation of sustainable business practices is arguably the strongest motivating factor to encourage private sector participation. Energy efficiency and conservation measures have been studied in depth over the past several decades, leading to assessments that the majority of building stock throughout the world is consuming more energy than necessary. There are also potentially significant opportunities for cost savings in the areas of water consumption and waste handling/recycling.  From a financial perspective, many of the cost reduction and efficiency strategies can be achieved with no-cost or low-cost measures focused on optimization of the performance of both equipment and personnel. Given the competitive nature of the lodging industry and the associated difficulty of increasing revenue, the potential for reduction of operating costs provides a compelling incentive for hoteliers to consider investment in environmental technologies, as well as more efficient operational procedures.
  • Vetting and confirmation of technology. Within the past decade, a tremendous number of green technologies have been introduced into the marketplace.  With numerous vendors and differing technologies (including emerging forms of alternative energies), hospitality owners require vetting and confirmation of these technologies as being cost effective and contextually appropriate for hotel and lodging use.
  •
The current trend hotels executives and owners are adopting is green and sustainable practices. First, because of the marketing and positive public relations it brings to the image of the hotel and second, because of the energy and cost savings to the bottom line. The implementation of these practices with new technologies and software's designed to streamline processes and keep routine calendar of projects make easier for management to keep track and follow through.

How to Negotiate with a Hotel - 7 views

  • Depending on an event planner's circumstances, these tips will help achieve some measure of savings with guest rooms, meeting services, and catering.
  •
Event planners has to negotiate with hotel sales to lower some of the expenses.  This article speaks of ways to save money which is by hosting most of your  events at the same property throughout the years; this will get clients to  return. Hotel sales manager should discount guest rooms offer because they offer  great profit margin than any other event service. Sales planners should compare  prices and try to secure the best price.  It's best to try and negotiate food  and beverage requirements because hotel managers and event planners will always  try to keep their guests happy. Negotiate the audio and visual expense by asking  for discounts and expenses to be waived if possible. Also be flexible on time,  space and dates.

THE GREEN HOTEL - 0 views

  •
Today environment become green is more and more important. And advent technology is used in different industries in order to create a green environment. Hospitality industry also applies new technology. If the hotel becomes a green one, it will be a future value of your development. If the hotel becomes a green one, it will be welcome by the guests and increase the customers' loyalty. If the hotel becomes a green one, the staffs will very happy, because the environment is very good at their health and the hotel is very beautiful. It will reduce the turnover because the staffs feel comfortable. Except the feeling of people, another side is energy-saving measures. It is also a very important factor of hotel such as energy management systems, fluorescent bulbs, ceiling fans, linen cards, lights out cards, motion sensors for public rest rooms, meeting rooms, exercise rooms, etc., energy bills are much reduced. If the hotel is green, it means your hotel is responsibility for guests and staffs healthy. If they feel that you really care their health, they must give your some reward, which is benefit for your hotel. There's just no doubt that when odors, fumes, soot, droplets and residues of toxic, poisonous chemicals are not in the air, on our food or on anything we touch, we are not absorbing or breathing them. The green hotel will have a higher quality and price because it green theme which is good for guest and earn more profit because of lower cost which attributes to energy-saving measures.

Online shopping: Selling becomes sociable | The Economist - 0 views

  • Swipely is among the latest entrants in the growing field of social commerce. Firms in this market combine e-commerce with social networks and other online group activities.
  • They aim to transform shopping both online and off.
  • The pioneer of flash sales, Vente Privée, grew out of the French apparel industry (the name means “private sale”).

  • Its five local sites in Europe have more than 12m members and are expected to bring in about €800m ($1 billion) in revenues this year.
  • The most successful is Groupon (a combination of the words “group” and “coupon”, which buyers print out to pay for their service).
  •
Swipely a social commerce company has users who can publish their purchases online. When they swipe their credit card, the transaction is shown on the site and this is discussed by other users. Company wants to transform shopping online and offline . There are two generations of e commerce sites: first, essentially digitized mail order catalogue and second, few emerged from Silicon Valley or sometimes they drive customers to actual shops. Many made money from flash sales, meaning time limited offer of high discounts. Buyers spread the word on social networks because these sites offer different services of local business for eg. restaurants and spas at a discounted price. Groupon could be a third generation of social shopping sites. It's hard to predict whether second or third generation of e commerce sites will continue to grow because they may get tired of flash sales.

iPad POS use rising among restaurants | Nation's Restaurant News - 1 views

  • Wishart said the most appealing aspect of the iPad is how it speeds up the ordering process in the restaurant. “The orders are in the kitchen or bar while the server is still at the table,” he said.
  • He said food and beverage notes can quickly be called up from the tablets’ built-in applications or third-party software by the wait staff to answer guest inquiries.
  • Wishart said he spent about $3,000 on the hardware — including around $500-plus for each of four iPads and another $900 or so for four wireless printers, two of which are in the kitchen, while the third and fourth are in the bar and dining room. That compares with the $12,000 to $20,000 upfront costs of some conventional POS systems, he said.

  • Wishart said Trio has yet to suffer any significant snafus with the cloud service. He expressed confidence in the reliability of, and redundancy of systems in, the data centers operated by e-commerce giant Amazon.com, from which Lecere contracts for support.
  • He added that the cloud-based model’s elimination of store-level software maintenance further sweetened the deal for him
  • Lappert is among the iPad POS users or vendors that have adapted magnetic stripe readers for credit and debit cards for use with the iPads. Others, such as Wishart, are processing card payments with one or more free-standing readers, such as the one behind the bar at Trio.
  • “You don’t have to worry about servers coming back into the kitchen 10 or 15 times a night asking questions, and the recipes for all the bar drinks are there, too,” Wishart said.

The article, iPad POS Use Rising Among Restaurants, reflects the evolution and implementation of both hardware and POS software within the restaurant industry. The iPad is revolutionizing POS systems, helping to increase the efficiency for the restaurants. According to Chris Wishart, restaurateur of the Trio Restaurant & Bar, "You don't have to worry about servers coming back into the kitchen 10 or 15 times a night asking questions". This allows for the quicker and more efficient placing of orders that contribute to higher customer satisfaction, which is to an extent difficult to measure. As well, Wishart comments about the hardware cost an estimated $3,000, in comparison to the typical upfront POS system costs of $12,000 to $20,000. Including, the use of the cloud base technology has eliminated the need for store software upkeep. The iPad is a versatile hardware that has allowed POS software companies to benefit mutually along with restaurants.

Advantages and Benefits of Point of Sale Systems Over the Older Cash Register Systems - 0 views

  • Whether it's a Brisbane point of sale, Sydney point of sale, Melbourne point of sale, or a hospitality point of sale in Adelaide a point of sale helps to speed up the service and delivery of good to customers. While a cash register only stores money and is often attached to a computer or bar code scanner a point of sale or POS does this all in one interface. Cash registers are often slower, and more limited in their options and methods of payment then a POS. For these reasons, many cash registers systems are being dropped for the more modern POS systems.
  •
Point of sale systems are revolutionizing the retail and hospitality industry. They have gained much attention and are now much more common then the older cash register terminal systems that once used to be at every retail store in Australia. The reason for their increasing popularity in retail stores, hotels, and restaurants is that they are more efficient and make processing and tracking orders easier. In the hospitality industry a POS system is much better because of the different needs, requests, and reservations of customers. Data must also be stored, and processed by the staff of the hotel to ensure smooth operation of the hotel. Because POS systems can record date such as payroll. labor, volume of good sold etc, they are more feasible then a cash register system. POS systems are now found in high volume restaurants. Restaurants that bustling with clients have installed this new software to be able to track and complete orders in real time, similar to a rail or airport flight schedule. Customers appreciate when their food is delivered on time, and when their orders are not mixed up. For high volume or busy restaurants the POS system offers incredible advantages and the possibility of increasing profits.

The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club in California has had many problems with time cards for their employees over the past several years. They used to use swipe cards with bar-codes to tell when people were coming in and out of work but there are a lot of problems with that technology. If people misplaced their cards or knew they were going to be late so gave it to a co-worker to punch them in is not a very smart thing to have in the hotel. After a lot of problems with this system management finally went in a new direction. They decided to move to newer technology and go with Biometrics. The hotel now has a hand reader system that makes every employee get there hand measured to clock in. This technology measured length, width, thickness, and surface area of the hand to store in the system so it knows each persons hand every time they go to clock in any time there after. When going to clock in the system asks for the employee number and then is ready for your hand on the little screen for your scan. The entire process of this takes under 1 minute. This technology of the HandPunch 3000 not only allows the employees to clock in but also allows management to collect data for pay codes, tips collected, and to allow the employees to go back and view their past times in and out. This system is a very green way to go in the hotel industry because there is no paper for records of clock in times, and there are no swipe cards that need to be made for clock in times. Ever since this hotel got the HandPunch 3000 they have not had issues of other employees clocking in other people. The system of course had some glitches to it in the beginning but they were fixed immediately while the staff was there installing it. My only question to this article that is not answered is : since it is a machine that has to be plugged in, what happens if the power goes out? Can employees still clock in to work because the hotel still is functioning?

New Technology Helps Restaurants With Employee Scheduling - QSR Magazine - 0 views

  • Web-based program
  • Employees also can log in to the scheduling program via their company’s Web site and submit time-off requests, change their availability for future schedules, and even trade shifts with other employees.
  •
I was clearly remembering till today that when I was working in a Japanese restaurant, the manager there always made mistakes on staffs' schedules and employee shifts because she was writing schedules herself every week. As is mentioned in this material, doing like this can be very waste of time and the worse situation I met before is that when I dressed up and made up and arrived there but to find that some servers already working in the restaurant on schedule.  Therefore, I think a web-based scheduling program will be most helpful. Managers of restaurant can use this product not only for today's schedule but also for future schedule. What's more, it helps make the work environment more suitable because it trades shifts with other employees.  From the financial perspective, web-based scheduling also trace labor costs, which is one benefit part manager have to pay attention to.

  • “We can show more items. With the daily specials, instead of changing out those plastic letters, we can just upload it and it runs. If we want to change it midday, it’s really easy to do, which is important because we want the majority of our employees’ focus to be on customer service.”

The owners of a Culver's franchise decided to install a digital signage to provide more menu information quickly because the menu board couldn't communicate enough with customers for a short time to select menu in the fast food restaurant. The challenge was how the small business owners and franchisee would handle their budget for the investment and added cost.  The problem was solved by selecting EzSign TV from LG Electronics which displays branded messaging and shows broadcast television or input content at the same time. Furthermore, the software offers a choice of more than 50 templates that can be customized with images and text. Therefore, the business can highlight the items with pictures and deliver their daily specials more efficiently.  Installation is easy, and daily specials menus can be replaced by simply clicking. The digital signage looks cleaner than old fashioned menu board, and saves more time to change menus. By implementing a system that requires limited attention from staff, Culver's can focus on customer service and deliver value. That was a good decision adopting a new technology fits in the quick service restaurants.

GDS usage on the rise as travel demand grows - 0 views

  • Industry leaders’ speculations that the global distribution system is dying a slow death have lingered for the last decade, ever since online-travel agencies made their debut in the hotel distribution space.
  • A study conducted by the American Society of Travel Agents in 2009 found the percentage of member travel agencies that used the GDS channel declined from 98% in 1999 to 79% in 2009.
  • However, despite the decrease in GDS usage amid the most recent global economic downturn, hotel companies and travelers still find value in the channel, according to sources interviewed for this report.

  • “And it’s a steady trend that’s gone up over the last several years,”
  • Many hoteliers are attempting to leverage those increases in demand through dynamic pricing models, which offers clients a percentage off a hotel’s best available rate on each travel date as opposed to a fixed, negotiated rate for the year
  • But that does not mean leisure travelers are not using the GDS as well.

  • The GDS is not going away any time soon because of the unique solutions it provides for hotels and travelers alike
  • For instance, it is better-suited to handle incredibly large look-to-book ratios
  • The GDS also provides enhanced marketing support
  • Although these and other benefits will continue to attract hoteliers’ inventory, Cole said the GDS would provide additional value if distribution costs were lowered

This article is about the current rise in the use of the GDS system again. This rise has been seen primarily with corporate travelers, but has also been used by the leisure traveler. While GDS usage percents dropped from 98% in 1999 to 79% in 2009, it has slightly started to increase again. Sabre one of the larger GDS companies has seen a 7% increase in use of the system in 2012. Hotels have tried to give companies better rates to their consumers, for example as more corporate travelers are extending their stays from a business trip and then turning it into a leisure trip for a few more days. This gives the traveler a lower rate a night at the hotel, as they are staying for more nights. Overall, while there was a decline in the use of GDS because of the OTA, there is now a slight increase, bringing life back to the GDS system.

This article gives an in depth explanation of the importance of GDS's in the hotel industry and the increased usage of the GDS due to the rising travel demand. The American Society of Travel Agents conducted a study in 2009 and found the percentage of member travel agencies that used the GDS declined from 98% in 1999 to 79% in 2009. A significant portion of the decrease was due to the economic downturn, but regardless hoteliers and travels still found value is the GDS channel. According to Sabre Travel Network, there was an increase of more than 7% in GDS bookings during the first quarter of 2012 over the same period last year. The demand for corporate travel is the main reason for the increase. Many people that are traveling for business want to extend their trips for leisure. This allows hotels the opportunity to adjust their pricing strategies by putting travel promotions for leisure for the business travels as well. Many people utilize the GDS to find the most affordable prices, but it is also beneficial to hoteliers as well. Elaine Kennedy, one of the two interviewed in the article, stated the pricing model provides corporations with a lower rate when demand decreases but also gives hoteliers the opportunity to achieve higher rates when demand increases, which ultimately is a win-win for both sides. The GDS also provides many opportunities for hotels to cut costs. Robert Cole, the other person interviewed in this article, stated "The GDS also provides enhanced marketing support….immediately when you use the GDS to put your product, your service, your room, your rate, you're getting it in front of an audience without using your own marketing budget." According to Robert Cole, the GDS is not going away any time soon because of the unique solutions it provides for hotels and travelers alike. I believe this article was very informative on how the GDS is currently being utilized and where it is going in the future. It basically helped answer question 3
